I have a thousand music files on my Samsung phone on the ext sd micro card .I can also use that sd card in other products phone tv etc . SD cards are not as unreliable as made out to be on here .
All copied directly from the PC as they are mp3 files .
But ITunes are they the same format and can they be copied directly ??

JJ Egan; many thanks for your input.

I think that I am looking for exactly the system that you are using, on my second post I said :

...I would like to be able to use a USB 3.0 32GB memory stick with my iTunes on it.

...I wrongly used the term 'memory stick' and confusing it with an SD Card that I saw online that was attached to a USD socket which is maybe what system you are speaking off...

    ...not sure if ...

ITunes are they the same format and can they be copied directly...

...but I think that we are the same wavelength so I will look along what you are using.

    Kind regards.

I'd recommend as above looking for some Youtube videos that show step by step what to do, basically you're going to where your Itunes music folder is stored and copying the music to your phone.

The difficult part can be getting your PC to pick up your phone, if you're having trouble with that you may be able to just copy the files to the micro sd card directly if your PC has an SD card reader (quite common on laptops) and you received an adapter with your micro SD card to convert it to a full size SD card.

I've had the odd SD card fail and find the very high capacity ones a bit worse but I use a range of micro SD cards without issue and don't find reliability to be a problem. At worse, you only have a copy of your music on the card so if it fails you're not losing any data.

    John...Many thanks for your input.

I will indeed follow the points with interest on the points that you have made and come back with my progress.

At my juncture of life it is a little more difficult to follow, what young students, and the likes take literally for granted today, maybe in 60+ years they will be asking similar questions re that period of technology.

As others have mentioned Google offers it's 'Play Music' service. As well as the monthly subscription, there is the option to 'upload'* 50000 of your own songs to your google account to play back on your device at no cost**
There is a guide for importing from iTunes here http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-2327837/export-music-itunes-google-play.html

The downside to using Play Music, is the tracks are stored on googles database and downloaded as and when you listen to them, unless manually downloaded in advance. If you don't want to use mobile data you need to hit download on everything you might want to listen to while you are on wifi.

The other option as suggested elsewhere is to connect your phone to a computer via USB and copy the files over directly. When you plug the phone in, you need to unlock the screen and swipe down at the top to see the notifications. A new one should have appeared that says 'USB device charging' (Or something on those lines). You need to tap that notification and change it to 'Transfer Files' in the box that follows. Then the phone storage will appear when you access the phone's icon in 'My Computer' (I'm assuming you're using windows)
At that point you can copy the files over. Unfortunately I don't use iTunes myself, so I can't advise where you would find them, or if they are in a format the phone can understand without any extra steps.

*It doesn't actually upload anything but the most obscure tracks, it just compares the tracks you have to its own database and gives you access.

BertieUK - fair play for wanting to get stuck in. I'll try to write instructions and see what you think.
iTunes is a Windows app that plays and organises your music files (mp3 and others) and more.
You can't really have that app on Android.
What you can do is put your music on your phone, and play it with an Android music app of your choice. People have suggested Google Play Music above. Another suggestion I'll give is 'CloudPlayer'. This applies to 'DRM free' music - if it's DRMed you will be stuck inside iTunes and Apple products.

So that's the apps. Let's get the music onto the phone. Your Micro SD card makes it easier. Do you have a card reader for the computer? If you've an SD reader for the computer, maybe the Micro SD card came with an adaptor to use in an SD card reader.
Assuming you've got the MicroSD card in the computer, you should find it My Computer, or Computer - make sure you can browse into it.
In a new window, goto C:/Users/(your name)/Music/iTunes/Music (or something similar!). Inside that Music folder should be lots of folders with the names of the artists of your music. If you right-click on the Music folder and click properties, it should tell you the size of your music collection, in GB - hopefully it's less than the 32GB your card can store.
Copy and paste that Music folder, into the microSD card. Just into the top of it, Android doesn't care. If there's a lot, it might take a while.
Card into phone, most android music apps will find stuff automatically, or you might need to sniff around the settings and ask it to scan.

Almillar Thank you for your input... I have read many ideas and instructions from various posts, which I appreciate very much, especially the patience shown..ie Raxiel :JJEgan ; Johnmci7 and many more, thank you.

I have 'finally' arrived a successful result, in that I have installed an Android app from Samsung and also copied/pasted my 'Music Folder' into my microSDcard, so a little practice and I should be 'good to go' and this 'Old Codger' is wired for sound.
    :)

I have also purchased a SanDisk Ultra* Dual Drive USB Type-C 64GB for Smartphones, Tablets, and Computers.

I have installed this into my Samsung S8+ and followed the installation instructions such as...

1 - 'we can backup your photos & videos so that you have less to worry about'

2 - 'we organise your content automatically so that you can view them easily'

3 - 'we can help you move content from your phone and make room for more'

4 - allow Memory Zone to access photos, media and files for your device'

5 - Social Media Backup - you can now back up your photos and videos from Facebook, Instagram and Google using Memory Zone.

Explore Now - Back up and Restore.

    Manual Back Up >
    Automatic Back up off >
    Social Media Back up >

Please Note: This is as far as I have gone in the 'set-up' and I would like some advice as to which > to press next, as I do not want to 'mess-up' at this stage. Hope that you will understand.

    Kind regards.
