Sky, what would you do?

Options
I phoned sky to be "downgraded" to the entertainment package at £20 a month from the variety package at £32 and was told that it was not available to existing customers until sometime in February but I could downgrade to the original package at £22 per month then change to the new entertainment package when it becomes available.

And would I be charged a penalty when I changed my package a month or so later?

It is possible, I was told, but most unlikely .

So I hung up to reconsider my options which are to phone back again and cancel everything.

However I want to watch programmes on Sky 1 and 2 and Fox and Universal which I would not get if I cancelled.

Should I cancel and hope to be put on the new £20 package?

  • I cancelled Sky altogether a couple of years ago and haven't missed it. I have the entertainment package with NOW TV instead, which is a very similar service to the basic entertainment package, but streaming instead of via the dish and much, much cheaper. It also includes the box sets. Have a look and see if your channels / shows are on there, I suspect they will be. I still get the free channels via the Sky box too.
  • I did the same as windspriration over a year ago now - I got fed up of constantly calling sky for better deals - we get the freeview programmes through our sky box and then use the regular codes that appear on HUKD for free entertainment & cinema channels (both sky including Atlantic & boxsets).
Sky offfered me a basic entertainment package for £8 a month for 12 months but it’s not worth it as there are regular free codes for Now.
  • Thanks for that, Jimmithecat - didn't realise the passes are available cheap on ebay too, I just bought one which worked fine :)

Why not just wait until the new packages are available? It's less than a week until February.

I presume the new, cheaper packages won't happen automatically,we will have to ring or chat online to get them ?

Pretty sure you'd have to ask as, dependant on existing package, you could lose something that you don't want to such as F1 racing.

The new package is available now for current customers...as i downgraded last weekend to the new entertainment package. The person on the sky end should put you through to their "specialist" team. It only took about 10 mins altogether.

Just been off the phone with SC.Was told he could not downgrade to me to the new sky entertainment I have to do it online myself and cannot see where when log in in my account. I was also chatting to sky and was told I cannot downgrade as an existing customer. Very conflicting. Did you get yours done online through your account and how do you do it? Thanks
