Hello,We want a new tv for our bedroom - about 21" with a built in DVD (that I can be confident will play all DVD's , i,e, bought ones and burnt ones).I also plan to run a headphone lead around the bedroom to my bedside table, so I can watch tv at night without disturbing the wife! Does that sound plausible?Anyway, any advice and stuff would be appreciated.Thanks.Duncan

Sounds good, good luck with that.
Just one thing, what kind of advice are you looking for? As you've not said which lcd's have 'built in dvd' that you're interested in. It's ok having a plan to purchase such a device, but if there aren't any with a 'built in dvd' then you're in for a bit of a wait. If you're looking for such a device then you'd be better off asking in here: https://www.avforums.com you might consider asking if they know of any multiregion hacks for the dvd as well. Mentioning your total budget and offering an example of the kind of thing you're looking at may even get you some replies.
Or perhaps 'wall mountable' is the way to go: http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/proddet.jsp?id=1290&cat=5 or even http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/proddet.jsp?id=1397&cat=5 then add a cheap LCD and some suitable headphones and your problems are behind you.
As for putting wire around the bedroom, why bother http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/597377/Sennheiser-RS110-8-Wireless-Headphones/Product.html when wireless ones are just as effective.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
I fail to see where he has written that he requires an LCD screen.
Wireless headphones will take care of the headphone problem. Examples here: http://www.cheapestelectrical.co.uk/productdetails.php?id=931&title=Philips+SHC2000+Cordless+Infrared+Headphones

As long as discs are finalised after recording, something like this would be fine: http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~DAE-DDT21H9S~dept~ctv~subdept~DVDCOMBIS~make~Daewoo.htm
If you did want LCD(double the cost), there's this kind of thing, available at Dixons for £280; http://www.ciao.co.uk/Goodmans_GLCD17W2DVD__64887120 -

You're correct (well you knew that didn't you) he didn't say anything about lcd, I assumed obviously incorrectly that as he was purchasing a tv in this day and age. Then 'new tech' lcd\plasma or something slim line (unobtrusive) would be required. Or perhaps that's just me

I would avoid 'infra red' headphones and instead aim for 'RF' (radio frequency) as it's more reliable and doesn't require line of sight. As for CRT ... well I thought only 'old people' and the 'blind' purchased such things
Thanks for pointing out my E&O's Donnie, I've made a couple of posts further down perhaps you can check them for me whilst you're here

Since this is a Money Saving site and no budget was mentioned, it would be presumptuous to assume that the more expensive LCD option was required. Though, I've included it as an option.
I also included the option of the cheaper infra red headphones in my listing, as it's reasonable to assume that as he'll be watching the TV, line of sight won't be a problem.
Too busy to check your posts, you'll have to do that yourself.0 -
i would advise to not get a tv with a dvd built in because what if one of them breaks down? it would be better to get a tv with a seperate dvd player.0

I'm sure the OP has thought of that before.

Wow. Just checked back in, hoping that someone might have taken the time to reply, and that's far more than I was expecting. So, thanks everyone. There's quite a lot for me to get my teeth into there. Infra-red headphones etc... well, I am not ashamed to admit that I was just thinking of a long lead going around the bedroom! What an old-fashioned guy I am! I think I need to update my expectations somewhat!A seperate DVD and TV is something I was considering, but I was more thinking of the space saving (it will be on the wall). Not sure whether to go with the LCD due to the expense. Am I right in that all it offers over the normal size tv is the fact that it takes up less room? If so, I don't intend spending much time up at the top of my bedroom wall, so shouldn't be a problem.Anyway, when I am at work tomorrow I will check out the links and advice and hope you don't mind as I am sure I will have some secondary questions? Thanks again, all.Dunc0

with lcd they are also supposed to have a better picture quality and also because they are flat there is less liklihood of seeing your bedroom light or the sun etc reflecting in the screen. i get the space issue i did consider a combi a few years ago. i could be wrong but i think combis tend to have less features and functions as well compared to seperates.0

I don't think that there's a issue with picture quality between LCD and CRT. It's a space issue.0
