I was diagnosed with menopausal roasacea a couple of years ago. After initially being treated with prescription cream/tablets, and being advised to use Cetraben moisturisers, it did eventually clear up. However, I still had recurrences of "red dots" on my face which would just appear out of nowhere!

When I did some online research I read about eyelash mites - yuk. So, for the last 18 months I have been double-washing my face, morning and night, with my regular Wilko liquid face soap, concentrating on my eyelashes each time. I noticed results within 3 weeks (the life-cycle of mites) - no more rosacea or red dots.

Double-washing has been life changing for me and it's cheap and quick to do :)

I still use Cetraben moisturisers but I can now also use a whole range of products from The Ordinary too.

31 year old male. since returning from cyprus aged 15 had a bright red nose.

have managed at times to hide it, in recent years been wearing a little makeup to cover it.

Been trying all sorts of meds. last 6 months i have had mirvaso. Works a little.

Been trialing some tablets which dont seem to do anything and sirvano which feels like its burning my face the last 3 days i have been wearing it.

This morning i woke up earlier and put some mirvaso on which so far has worked a little
  • Here another rosacea sufferer, I currently use mineral makeup to cover up the redness, my swear by product is a green concealer from Mineralissima. it does not even look like makeup so I think even men can use it. They also do pressed powders which have a good coverage so on the days my rosacea is "better" I can just use the pressed foundation and it's enough.
I have tried to systematically eliminate anything from my diet that causes flare-ups but I have eneded up eliminating prestty much all things I love (chili, soy, WINE ) I haven't really found any proper relief in topical creams so if anyone has a brilliant recommendation...

Hi, where did you buy that from?
  • Hi,
have a look at the Paula's choice range of products. I have had some success with a mix of these and i believe they have some targeted for rosacea. Fo me it's been a trial and error process. I had indications of rosacea, a history of acne and a period of rampant perioral dermatitis - the (steroid) cream prescribed by the doctor made things worse, a private doctor then gave me antibiotics which got me over the worst of the dermatitis, then i was on the search for products and a routine that did not cause flare ups of rosacea, acne or dermatitis. For what its worth, here's my routine:
    1. morning cleanse with a balm cleanser e.g emma hardie moringa
    2. serum moisturiser containing niacinamide (I use paula's choice ultra light serum)
    3. evening double cleanse with emma hardie moringa followed by a cream cleanser (only double cleanse if i've worn make up)
    4. evening treatment - mild glycolic acid/bha exfoliater or a calming serum (i use paulas's choice resist anti aging serum which calms my skin down - sometimes with a boost of niacinamide)

i also second the advice about avoiding very hot soup or drinks
    Good luck

    Fantastic work here.

Is it working for you? Just woke up to a bright red nose again after it seemed all calm.

Going to give soolantra a few more days before sacking it off.

Do you have a link for the items you recommended?

yes it is working. One other key change I made was checking ingredients of products to make sure they contain no essential oils which are irritants for some skin types.
I'm not allowed to post links yet but you can google the following.
Paula's Choice Rosacea - there is a specific range you will find from this search however, I use different PC ones myself, these are:
Skin perfecting bha liquid exfoliant (2%) For me, this exfoliant has been excellent.
Resist anti aging ultra light super serum (I use this light one for daytime instead of moisturiser)
Resist anti aging super antioxidant serum - This one for night time - it is heavier. I find this has a real calming effect overnight. I don't necessarily use it every night, usually alternate with the exfoliator.
    Niacinamide booster (10%)
I add a few drops of this added to the night serum now and then if my skin is showing signs of breakout or irritation.

You can get trial size products so I strongly recommend that before forking out for full size products - they're not cheap. Once i decided these ones worked for me i invested in the full size ones and they last for a few months.

I also forgot to mention that my dad had rosacea for a large part of his life, it was quite bad, the doctors had him on antibiotics (docxycycline i think) for it over a long period of time, it would clear it up for a while but it would always come back so never felt like a good long term strategy to me - hence when I started to develop it (on top of a history of acne and dermatitis!) I tried all sorts as did not want to be sent down that antibiotic route.

Other things I have done are reduce my sugar and refined carb intake and move from high impact exercise to low impact stuff like walking/hiking and resistance training. Because i combined all these changes at one time who knows what has had a true effect! I just know my skin is now under control - after 15 years of struggle it's such a relief.
    good luck

I too am a sufferer, across my forehead is blotchy red, dry, itchy, flaky and feels rough and down the left side of my face is just blotchy red.
Most treatments I have looked at don't mention these symptoms.
I was given some hydro cortisone cream by the doctor but had very little affect, may give sudocreme a try.

  • Likewise a sufferer. There's a blogger called Talonted Lex (started off as nails). She suffers from rosacea and features other skin conditions now on her blog. She's got lists of rosacea friendly products and advice.

I've not found a cleanser though that I'm happy with. Cetaphil is often recommended but I find it very drying. I was thinking of trying Ark - does anyone have any experience of this brand?

I use Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, it has not cleared my rosacea up but it has not made it worse either.
