Rosacea

  • I have a nose as red as a traffic light. I have calmed it down by looking after my skin. When I do little my nose looks so red that it looks raw.

I use micelluar water and a balm cleanser. I use acid based toners- clarins gentle exfolliator toner, basic moisturizer and serum. I used trilogy rosehip oil and it made my nose many fold worse- I should have avoided the nasal area. Certain products you might need to avoid in certain areas of the face and still allow you to use it up.
I have recommenced wearing make up daily. I tried every concealer on my nose and few pass the tissue test -- One sniffle and all the concealer wipes off. Mac concealer is brilliant, the mac primer is excellent, flomar concealer is brilliant, benefit boing concealer is good. I really recommend powdering over the concealer and foundation. I also use spf

The green cream in la roche posey rosaliac, I found it ok but ask for a sample as i don't like the texture. Many people swear by it, however.

Have a word with your gp as there are a variety of treatments- creams and antibiotics. Rosacea encompasses 4 different subtypes and if you know which one resources (energy and financial) can be applied to get the correct solution for you. Many of the prescription treatments are amazing and can really reduce the redness.

I find the moo goo really good, their website has loads of advise. https://moogoo.com.au/rosacea-management/
I can tolerate their oils and they have Demodetic Rosacea Night Powder which is really innovative.
  • Hi Bobs,

Hopefully you found a cream that helped but if not you could try proskin rosacea by mama nature. A friend suggested I try this after she used their eczema cream for her perioralis dermatitis and it cleared away all of my spots and the redness/spider veins. It even has made my skin far less oily. It might be worth a try :)

This uses tea tree oil to 'attack' the dermotex mites which may be the cause of rosacea. I posted about using tea tree oil on my face a few years ago her and it certainly helps soothe inflamed skin.

I bought a small bottle of pure TTO and another of macadamia nut oil and combine a couple of drops of each on a cotton pad before using on my face. I also clean my eyelashes with diluted baby shampoo / warm water and a cotton bud (only drawing the cotton bud once across the eyelash line before using a fresh one).

The mites life in your eyelashes, crawl out at night and leave their faeces on your face which causes the condition. Now I gave my skin back under control, more or less. No more nasty sores or inflammation. I still have a flushing reaction to alcohol or very spicy food but all the blistering has stopped.

The mites have a life cycle - can't recall the length off the top of my head - so getting rid of them takes a few weeks. Well worth the effort.

The cream is over £30.00, the two wee bottles are much cheaper and were very effective. I had many miserable years before finding tea tree oil. The Metrogel was just awful, it dried like a hard covering on my face and just peeled off like clingfilm.

Different people react to differ things. I hope you find what works for you.
  • Hi, I have recently decided developed this problem myself, it's unpleasant and I found that it affects ones confidence, as a receptionist it was also impacting on my ability to meet and greet clients. However, having done some minor research into the problem I came across someone who recommended using Sudocrem (yes, generally associated with babies bottoms!) I've been using it for a week and it appears to have worked brilliantly. I apply it last thing at night and first thing in the morning, it does leave a film coating on ones face so give skin time to absorb before heading off out. Best of all it's easily accessible and cheap!
    Hope this helps.

Some years back on a forum someone mentioned eyelash mites and a link to how to tell if you have them. Itching around the eyelash was the way. And the recommendation was simple Johnstons Baby Shampoo! Yes, it does not sting the eyes and it actually kills them off. So if they come back dump the £30 stuff and try that. Oh it is perfectly natural to have them it seems though the idea freaks many out.

As for using Sudocrem, it will not moisturise your skin that is not what it is for so your skin will be very dry if you use just it. Great for spots and the odd rash but not all over the face every day.

I too have found Sudocream works for my Rosacea. My GP confirmed that I could use it.

I use it at night and also before going out in the wind as wind burn makes my skin painful.

When my skin gets dry and flaky, or tight and sore Sudocream works wonders.

If it is sunny I use a high factor sun cream to protect my face.

I also wash my face with Cetaphil after a recommendation on this site.
  • I had it for a few years . Doctor gave me canestan HC. Prescription. Only , and doxycycline capsules . 1 a day . All gone now as I have myasthenia gravis now . Different stresses in life I guess .
The doxycycline was great , but you had to avoid sun excessively or skin wound get blotchy .
  • I've been using the proskin rosacea for just over four months now and my skin looks amazing. I hope that doesn't sound too rude coming from me but my friends have also said this. I had a slight flare up a month ago. Probably the stress of moving to a new flat but I just applied this cream twice per day instead of my usual night time application and within a week or so it had calmed down and was looking great again. The flare up was just some redness nothing major.
  • I am part of the red club too, have had type 1 rosacea (no spots) since the 1990's so getting a handle of how to control it. Used one lot of antibiotics from the docter but haven't since then as don't want to live on pills as I think in the long run they do more harm than good.
Its hard at the moment being so cold, I am staying as much as possible too.
I have tried many products but like La Roche Posay but found some relief but not long lived
The best that I have found is the Intensive range by Penny Badger Botanicals you can find it at Penny Badger .com which I have been using for the last few years, very good relives the redness almost immediately and natural as well, I think from what I've red is the rose and liqourice extracts that help to reduce the rosacea symptoms.

and cover your face with a soft scarf if you go outside and avoid very hot soup or drinks, let them cool down before you drink them.
    Good Luck

I had an led face mask for Christmas and I’m using it on red for rosacea after reading a lot about it.
It’s a bit hard to tell yet as I had a sore nose from a cold and also started on low duration as per the instructions, but so far I’m happy with it.

I bought rosalight for a few reasons,

There were leds on the nose (wasn’t convinced about some others)
