Thanks for replying, House_owner.
The Researcher replied but did not believe that I had waited so long before eventually being timed out. She said: "- It could not have been 15 mins of waiting, since the screen times out after 5."
Although I would not trouble to argue with The Researcher, I really did wait a lot longer than 15 minutes to be Partnered and was eventually timed out.0 -

Coordination Game 3.0

Thanks very much for replying, Slinky. I've checked just now: 90 pence: “ actual completion: 15 min 32 seconds, intended time 7 minutes and maximum time 36 minutes.”
I started at 1401 hours and was timed out at 1445 hours when I was waiting, for the second time, to be paired with a partner - so 44 minutes. During this time I was mostly on hold waiting to be paired with a partner. The Researcher replied to me:
"Hello, we apologize, but this is the nature of the game. It is a two-player game, and if nobody joins to play with you, we are unable to pay you. It could not have been 15 mins of waiting, since the screen times out after 5 mins, if you have not been paid"
That's all the Researcher said although I definitely waited on hold to be paired with a partner for very much longer than 5 minutes. The Researcher ignored the part of my message where I explained that I had been paired with a partner and, at the end of round 1 when I clicked “next” I was taken back to the window “waiting to be paired with a partner". This is the window which I understand the Researcher says I can’t have been waiting for more than 5 minutes. I mentioned in my message that I wondered if there was a technical fault.
I am not going to argue with the Researcher. It is disappointing that the Researcher just does not believe me. Why would I pretend that I had waited on hold for so long if had not?
Please see House_owners post above at 3.42 p.m. on 12 November. I should have known (for a 90 pence payment) to Return the Study. I don't think it is worth pursuing this. It is disappointing that The Researcher did not respond fully to my entire message.
I won’t attempt any future studies from this Researcher.
It was good of you to reply, thank you. Slinky.1 -
The AI ones people seem to be doing well out of, are they the AI Image Evaluation ones? I picked up one of these for $5 for 15 minutes, my laptop screen was too small and by the time I got onto it on my desktop, I only saw a few images before the session stopped automatically. It's paid me the $5 dollars but I didn't really do much. I'd hope that I've not been blacklisted as being slow by the researcher. What do you think, is it worth contacting the researcher to explain, or just let it go?

I think there are two main types of AI studies. There are the image ones which I also had technical issues with and don't usually do. There are also variations of fact checking AI studies which are usually an hour long. If you can get onto those you can make decent money if you have the time to put into them. A couple of days ago I did one of their surveys where you have to make judgements on AI-manipulated images. There is an immensely long "training" session, where if you do not give the exact scores they like to questions on an image you are told what you should have said, and told to do the questions again. Some of their own "answers" are very clearly wrong, but without parroting these scores you do not get to progress. I spent an hour on this without reaching the end of the multiplicity of questions. It is one of those studies where you have to terminate it after an hour, and I did so; later I received a message telling me to return it, on the grounds that "Tasks ran out while connecting to the study." (It was still on offer, with many places remaining.) I have refused to return it, and raised a ticket with Prolific, because in the case of a similar study a couple of weeks ago I discovered it had been marked as Returned without my knowledge, and I am fairly sure they will do the same again. I suspect that all of these studies are not only about, but run by, AI bots, because you can never get an answer from them, and they come up with "decisions" which are grossly unjust. Calling themselves "Humans" is rather a giveaway! If I give them an hour of my time which I will never get back again, I want to be fairly paid for it.

I got another AI image one a few minutes later, which stopped early with a message something like it had run out of images. Didn't get a completion code but it paid out as well a while later, so $10 for not very much. Makes up for some of those ones you get short paid for.

I agree that some of their interpretations are just plain wrong. I’ve had some you have to write things on a score of one to 5 and you can’t actually take the five bucks because of a technical error on the page. I’ve messaged them about all of these and never had a reply. If they want to pay people for a faulty study that’s up to them. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
