Prolific Academic Survey Alerts

The time, and therefore the rate, are based on the actual time it is taking people to complete. The payment set is based on the expected time that the researcher estimates the survey will take. This is an extreme example, but if the researcher had estimated it should take 2 minutes a payment of £0.25 would equate to a rate of £7.50.elsien said:A study about public opinion
By Bai Luo£0.25 • £1.78/hr 8minutes.Why on earth are prolific letting these through?
And more to the point, why are people still completing them?
Quite often a researcher will adjust the payment to reflect the time taken.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Has Prolific introduced 2 step verification? I've just tried logging in but need to enter a verification code that I received by email. In all the years I have been on Prolific this has never happened to me before it's quite unnerving.

Yes, that's just happened to me as well - rather annoying. I wonder if there's any point in complaining.Cordie said:Has Prolific introduced 2 step verification? Given the amount of money which one can earn on Prolific, I would be perfectly happy with 2FA. In fact, the other day they complained that there had been too many logins from me; I hadn't actually logged in for some hours, so just to be on the safe side I promptly changed my password.

Yes, here, too, but I got option to "remember this device for 30 days" (using Chrome), so if no big deal if we only need to do it once a month or so, and as others say, it protects earnings.Cordie said:Has Prolific introduced 2 step verification? I think it the 2 step verification is a good thing. Reduces unauthorised access although I tend to cash out as soon as I get to the threshold anyway and don't keep much money building up in there.2

Prolific support have said on Reddit that the 2FA was accidently put live prematurely, hence why nobody was notified beforehand. It's part of new security measures they're introducing to ban people who're using automated scripts/bots to get places in studies.6

On the subject of changes, there used to be an audio message 'new studies available on Prolific' with the Prolific Assistant widget and then that disappeared, well it did for me anyway, does anybody else still have the audio prompt? Was useful to have my laptop open whilst doing the ironing, but could stop and pick up studies if they popped up. Now it's just the visual popup or I might notice a red number on the widget logo.

Mine is the same, although I haven’t yet been back into the prolific assistant to check if there’s any settings I need to play with. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I've checked, there don't appear to be any settings that you can alter, although the description on the app still says about the audible alert. Looking at the reviews somebody else moaned back in May about the audio disappearing.
