I did a study the other day and it said during that if halfway through the other participant disconnects, you get a £2 partial payment.

The study is currently “awaiting review” but the researcher has added a £2 bonus payment to the original reward of £4.50.

    I got the message below

“Hi there, I just sent you the partial payment. You can now return the study "Academic study".”

Surely if I return the study it would lead to the reward disappearing?

i had that study. Waited ages for the other participant, within seconds of them joining it said I wasn’t quick enough to respond. The researcher has acknowledged that there were problems with the study and they are going to improve the design. Also paid a £2 bonus and told to return.

I had this or similar, i waited for other participants, then was told they had all moved on and I needed to return the study. But that i would be given £2 bonus.
I did return it and though hmmm, i wont see the £2 now because ive cancelled it. BUt about 3 or 4 days later it popped up!

The problem is that £2 isn't sufficient reward for the time spent on this survey.
It was £4.80 for 25 minutes.  If people chose to accept that then the £2 for five minutes is more per hour.  I know I was sat for three minutes (from memory but it may have been two).  Then I got the bonus.
Mine offered £4.50 for 45 minutes. I was on the survey for 30 minutes before it crashed out. £2 is not in line with prolific guidelines!
Perhaps not the same study then.  As the full price was £4.80 for 25 mins, not 30p less for twice the time.

I would not do a study which paid £4.50 for 45 minutes.
Yes, that was a different study. The one we are talking about was called "Academic study", by univie.ac.at, and in addition to the £4.50 there was also a bonus which made it more worthwhile - I got an extra £7.56 - but, of course, only if you were able to complete it. It seems many people were not, and had to wait longer than £2-worth before being asked to return the study for £2. I did manage to complete the study, in a little under 45 minutes, but I certainly had to wait more than a few minutes for other participants during the course of it, and was already over 20 minutes in by the time the first one turned up.
  • I seem to have hit another bad run of 'successfully' reserving a place and attempting to start straight away, only to receive this notice:

    "Experiment not available
    This experiment is currently full.

Please cancel the task on Prolific."

I was eager to participate but, unfortunately, the only option was for me to Return the Study.  Although I understand there is no penalty for Returning a Study this is about the 8th or 9th Study like this in the past few days.  It's quite discouraging.

It is easier when a Study is available but, before being able to reserve a place, and from the outset it can be seen that there aren't any places available.

Well that's your choice. We are all different. Most of the time they never take as long as it says it will. Personally if I have nothing else to do, then I will do anything that pops up within reason. As Mr T says....Every little helps!

Different study. I don’t usually worry about the pay rate is those paying under the prolific rate often get amended or a bonus added. I do object to £2 for 30 minutes when the researcher says to return the study.

I've finally done the "Academic Study", having been able to set aside enough time to devote to it.  I didn't have to wait too long at any point, and my total earnings are £12 (£4.50 plus a bonus of £7.50) so I'm happy with that.  And it will presumably stop half-a-dozen notifications popping up all at once, again and again!
