  • Hi all, I take it that having to verify your ID for Prolific with passport/driving licence details is the norm for them?
You do have to verify your ID.  There are not inconsiderable sums of money and I guess they need to make sure that the money is going to a proper person.

Thankyou, just thought I'd ask out of caution really. I'll give it a go 😃

This one appears very low paid, but there's an option to do an extra task for a £1.25 bonus, which I presume most people are doing, hence the longer completion time shown. So actually it was reasonably well paid (£1.70 for about 10 minutes in my case).

Did anybody else have problems with this one? Got to the end of the survey, clicked to Save the submission, and it took me to the survey host website without giving me a completion code. Have messaged the researcher.

    Anyone do this one:

    A multipart vocal pattern study

You will be asked a number of questioned, then asked to record yourself reading a passage.

You will need a device with a microphone. The survey will record your voice in browser.

Devices you can use to take this study:

    • Desktop
    • Mobile
    • Tablet

    You will also need:

    • Microphone

Basically it records you reading a paragraph out loud. Don't know what the purpose would be. Only thought afterwards if there is a risk of your voice being used to access voice recognition software used by banks etc

I haven't given my bank or any other organisation any recordings of my voice for voice recognition purposes, so no worries there. Given the nature of the questions, I'm assuming the research is to do with correlating vocal inflexions with certain autistic traits.

I had it two days ago, OH had it today.   No idea what it is for but I didn't think it is anything sinister.

I completed this one, which was done using the Inquisit software, and entered my Prolific ID at the end as requested, then Inquisit closed without any further info, so I assumed they would use my ID to confirm my submission and sent it with NOCODE. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that before finishing, the study had opened a new tab in the background in my browser, containing the link to submit the correct completion code to Prolific. Furthermore, it says "Please always follow this link or otherwise we will not be able to grant you your reward for participating in this study." I believe this is against the rules, as Prolific state in their help pages that a NOCODE submission is insufficient reason for rejection. Anyway I immediately messaged the researcher, explaining the situation and giving them the completion code (copied from the URL), and asking them to confirm that I will receive my reward for the study. I hope they do, as I could do without the stress of chasing them up and pointing out that they are breaking Prolific's guidelines.

I had an issue with that one because my prolific ID had too many characters to fit in the box. I've messaged them and they said it shouldn't be a problem so they seem fairly responsive.
I didn't notice the background page either to start with but rather than submitting with NOCODE I started checking my browsers and history and spotted it then.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • They messaged me saying it was fine and thanks for doing the study. Always good when you get a fast, positive response from a message to a researcher.
