Planning in later life: The effect of executive functioning training on planning abilities

    By student.bbk.ac.uk

I have just completed this Study and the payment would have been £5..  I remembered too late, ithat this is identical to one I completed successfully on 16 June.  On 16 June the identical Study was offered a second time and, since I had only just completed it, I Returned the second Study.  At first I thought it might have been a second part of the same Study.

Now having just completed what (apart from the Payment which, on the first two was to be £4) is another identical  'third' Study.

I have just checked and of the three identical studies (apart from the remuneration differences £4 then £5) I completed two.  The second one, very early this morning, has the identical completion code to the one I completed (and was approved) on  16 June.  As a result, I have now  changed the submission and have Returned this Study. I let the Researcher and Prolific know.

It was such a waste of time although I should have realized (as it was the third time!) that it was the same study.  I am surprised that I was given three opportunities to do the same Study.

If you completed the survey, you should be paid for your time.  It is not your fault that you were offered an identical study;  you cannot possibly tell when you start it that it will be identical, as it is not uncommon for studies to be very similar, but with slight differences which are important to the researcher.  I would not have returned it. I might have messaged the researcher saying it seemed like one I had been offered before; but I don't have a perfect memory and I could certainly never swear that one survey was absolutely identical to another I had completed a week before.

With prolific studies however I take a different approach and whilst accuracy is still important, I purposely take my time and usually copy and paste or screen print pages of text as I go along if I feel I will need to refer back to them for information or attention check purposes.
I’ve always copied and pasted (or screenshotted) large bits of text after I got rejected due to a “gotcha” attention check which asked me to recall a really specific bit of information which had no specific relevance to the follow up questions.

Exactly, of course according to the Prolific guidance for researchers regarding attention checks, this states 'They cannot rely on memory recall', so what you got rejected for is in theory not allowed.

Back In the real world however, we all know that it happens (often!) and I got fed up of having to delete page cookies close the study and start again from the beginning because of this type of attention check, much easier to copy as you go along.

Thanks MollyR.  Although I can't find it now, I remember there was a post on this Forum where a Participant was 'told off' by a Researcher with the Researcher making a fuss because the Participant had completed the same Study twice - suggesting, I seem to remember,  that the Participant was cheating.

When I noticed that the two I had completed (one had already approved my submission) had identical completion codes (first one on 16 June and second one completed very early this morning) I was worried in case it would cause a problem.

I know it is probably unrelated but I seem to have had a few 'odd' problems on Prolific lately - similar to Greenqueen_2 which I replied to here yesterday at 6.43 p.m.

Earlier this morning I also had difficulty logging into this Forum with an 'Internal Error Code 500' although it seems to be back to normal again now.

UPDATE:  I have just received this reply from The Researcher:

"Hello, it doesn't matter that the completion code is the same for all the studies. Prolific say that they put screening criteria up so that the same people don't take the study more than once so I will flag this to them - thank you!"

So it looks as if my second completed study (which I returned) will not receive payment.

If you are going to do this one, beware, because it asks for your e-mail address at the end to offer you "updates and special offers".  You could give your Prolific e-mail address if you really want to hear from them, but I would certainly advise not giving your real e-mail.

I was about to pop down Tesco for cat food when this one appeared.

I was not sure if several short tasks regarding human perceptions and attitudes would only take 3 minutes, so decided to give it a swerve for the time being.

I completed this one. Just leave the email request blank and it will still carry on to complete

I completed this one as well, but I put in the Prolific email address. It was approved quite quickly.

It eventually changed the message for me, saking for a number less than 99. So I suspect the researcher has formatted it for an age answer, rather than an ID. I messaged him to that effect and hope I get paid.

I also did the app one that asked for an email, and have reported it to PA as it looks a bit iffy. I put in a fake email, and have already been paid.
