    Warning to avoid.

I think this might be Y T Wang with yet another alias, it certainly fits the description from previous posters

It originally stated £6ph and 5 minutes. Unfortunately as usual it was much longer.  Reported as underpaying.

    Hi everyone,

I completed this study on 8th May and received the payment of £7.50. However, I believe it should have been a lot more than that. It was conducted over Zoom and took 45 minutes. I don't  see how it could have take much less time than that. Since it stated that the payment would be £89.99 per hour, surely a more realistic payment should have been paid.

I contacted the researcher who stated that "the complete payment is 7.50 for the interview and the couple of questions prior to it. I hope this was clear to you before you participated, I cannot send any extra payment".

Did anyone else do this study and how long did it take you?

    Many thanks

    Lexical processing task

    By Ying Li

It has been really quiet for me on Prolific all day with only three or so study notifications - all full.  Then at about 6.40 p.m. this study

    Lexical processing task

came up and I was surprised to successfully reserve a place.  I was a bit concerned in case it was one of the ones to avoid but I was pleased to secure a place and was eager to start.

It  took me twenty-one minutes instead of the eleven minutes suggested although I do tend to be quite slow.

The study seemed to go well and was straightforward but, on completion, when clicking the link I received no completion code.  I had to enter "NO CODE" and I hope my study is approved.

Same for me with the lack of code.  But it only took me about ten to twelve minutes - although I was responding quickly.  There were errors in it, though;  for instance, I was marked wrong for saying that Zest was a concrete rather than an abstract word.  Clearly Ying Li does not spend much time in the kitchen!
Thanks MollyR.  I have just edited my post because I miscalculated the time I took:  21 minutes so I was not as slow as I thought.  Hopefully we'll have our submissions approved - even with the lack of a completion code.
I can't remember the words now but there were a few where I also thought I was marked wrong when I thought I'd made the correct choice.

I don't really like doing Zoom calls on Prolific, because the pay is typically lousy considering what's involved. In this case, the hourly rate is calculated from the study duration, so what was on offer was £7.50, not a rate of £85 per hour. The hourly rate comes from the fact that the initial sign-up takes 5 minutes. I recall taking this study myself, or at least a version of it from the same researcher, and was on Zoom for a total of about 10 minutes (with an advertised maximum call duration of 30 minutes). Perhaps this is an elongated version of what I did.

Anyway, I guess the point I'm trying to make is this - be mindful of the fact that other platforms that offer studies over Zoom typically pay much more highly than Prolific - if it makes you feel any better, I got suckered into a three hour (yes, three hour) group video chat study on Prolific for £24. When most Zoom calls pay upwards of £30\hour on other sites, it kind of puts it into perspective a little bit.

I did this one too - two minutes in, I clicked to the next page which took me to a totally different study.... which I carried on with and completed in less than five minutes.
Yesterday I had messages from the researcher asking me to return or complete his study. I explained what had happened and after a few messages back and forth we are at stalemate. He wants me to return it but I'm not doing that.
