Gambling Decision Making Update
By sauder.ubc.caIn this study, you will be asked to describe your experiences with gambling and investment and to fill out personality scales that will be linked with your decision making style.476 places£5.00 • £10.00/hr30 minsAnother Sunday morning arrival. I did intend to do a bit of gardening, but there was torrential rain earlier so everything is soaked, this appeared whilst waiting for the sun to dry things up a bit.0 -
I just completed this one. The questions were badly worded (e.g. asking whether the maximum age of consent should be increased!) and the other answers did not, I agree, appear to have been written by a range of real individuals. I also found that the study moved on very quickly after one refreshed the page - they may have been trying to fool us into thinking that other people were still working at it. I am quite sure that my ratings for the answers presented differed when they were repeated; but so what? One's opinion of an answer can vary when one has read more alternative answers which which to compare it! And the £15 will be very nice. Oh, it's there already!JGB1955 said:
I did the 1:15 to 1:25 version of this yesterday. What a shambles! It doesn't seem to actually involve 'other' participants, rather a set of poor 'debating' answers, re-circulated at least 3 times. Happy to pick up the £15 (almost before I had actually ended the survey). I very much doubt the results will have any meaningful data....cloudylemonade13 said:Best paying study I've had for a while. Just completed this one. Took about 40 minutes, including lots of waiting time where I read the paper, and paid almost immediately.JGB1955 said:

Identify a letter, left or right, in many fonts
By nyu.edu£11.20 • £16.22/hr41 minsIt has been a very quiet day for me on Prolific and I was particularly pleased to manage to secure a place on this Study. It took all of the suggested 41 minutes and it required full concentration. The letters were really fast moving and only the middle of the three letters had to be remembered.I was not aware of any problems (although it was quite difficult to adjust to the changing font types and sizes) and I followed through to the end of the study. After waiting until confirmation that I could close the window I received no completion code on submission. .The very generous payment of £11.20, approved very quickly and just received, is really appreciated.Crimson
I just now took a very similar sounding study (but not identically named!) paying somewhat less (although still very generous). I did get a completion code though, and was also paid very quickly. Not a bad result for a quiet Sunday morning!1 -
International payments
By Laura Gallagher2323 placesTell us about your experience sending payments abroad/ making international remittances£0.67 • £20.98/hr
1 minReceived an e-mail from Jim in prolific directing me to this one, but I was screened out due to me not making any International payments recently.Well maybe I have, as I do purchase from overseas vendors occasionally, but none that I can remember at this moment in time.

I got that too. I do feel that if one is to be screened out, it should be at the first question. I entered NOCODE for the survey, and reported the DQ message, saying that if one is invited for a survey one should not be screened out at the end of it.

I had exactly the same experience, yupiteru. There was nothing before commencing the Study to say that the Study related only to international payments/remittancesmade in the past month. After commencing this study, and answering the questions, I received this notice:"Thank you. Your response is not needed at this time."What did your do, yupiteru? Were you asked to Return the Study? I was not asked to Return the Study and I submitted mine with "NO CODE."Crimson

I had exactly the same experience, submitting 'no code' at the end. I consider our responses to be valid - after all, if 90% of respondents haven't made an international payment in the past month that illustrates that only 10% HAVE. Perhaps not very accurate statistically (with a small database) but still a statistic!Deleted_User said:I had exactly the same experience, yupiteru. I had a NOCODE for this one too. I've messaged the researcher to say that I hope there are no issues with being paid due to the NOCODE as Prolific say in the researcher instructions that participants shouldn't be screened out during the study and therefore not paid. Prolific say they should have used a pre-screening study if they needed to.
I did make an international payment and I said that, but it then went on to ask how it had been paid. There were a variety of options including via your bank (which is what I'd used) and it then gave me the "response not needed" message after that. So it sounds like they want people who have made an international payment using a specific way (and maybe other criteria as well!).3 -
I completed this study to the end. Well the percentage completed jumped from around 30% to completion with a code.
