I just transfer the money into Paypal whenever I notice that it has exceeded £5, and I never bother to look at the e-mail confirmations.

I tend to cash out when I have at least £5 (or nothing) in my pending balance, so I know that even if I don't get any more studies I will eventually be able to cash out the rest of it.

I'm just wondering:  In the, hopefully very unlikely, situation where Prolific decide to close your account, would any pending payments or confirmed payments  not cashed out, or under £5 and not eligible to be cashed out, remaining in your account be honoured?

Hopefully it will never happen but, if so, would they 'disappear' when/if Prolific decided to close your account?

From their Help Centre,  if your account is "on hold" you cannot cash out.  See https://participant-help.prolific.co/hc/en-gb/articles/360021985293-Why-is-my-account-on-hold-

  • Thanks MollyR.  I am hoping that it never happens but, knowing this, and thank you for the helpful link, makes me think it is best to cash out any payments once £5 is reached.

Thought I had got a place but when it opened it was a 'Gorilla' study.

Study was full yet again, it is so disappointing when this happens.

I had exactly the same experience at about 4.30 this morning, yupiteru.  The same study.  I reserved a place and very quickly got my head phones, connect them to my laptop, clicked to start on my reserved place and the dreaded gorilla platform once more advised study full.  No option but to Return the study.

It is disappointing but, at 4..30 a.m, it  is quite annoying.  I have mentioned this problem to Prolific before  but the problem continues.

I reserved a place in this last night too. I tried to open it several times as they had given 87 minute completion time. I've sometimes been able to complete a Gorilla platform study by waiting until others should have completed it and opening the link later.

According to the study the total participants required was 122, so the Gorilla platform must have pretty poor capacity if it can't handle so few connections.

Sorry Crimson it was probably my abandoned reservation as that's about the time I ditched it.  :( The timer was down to 19 minutes when I eventually gave up and returned it.

The Gorilla problem isn't due to capacity, it's a synchronisation issue between them and Prolific. When a participant returns a submission (rather than completing it) Gorilla doesn't free up the place again, so places run out on Gorilla before they do on Prolific. Sometimes the researcher notices (or a participant messages them) and adds more places, sometimes not. It's been happening for ages and is particularly annoying because Prolific and Gorilla have close ties (e.g. they hold events together) but don't bother to fix it.
