Is this fair - increase car insurance premium
My DS has just completed first year of driving with black box fitted.
During the heavy snow last week someone left a bin behind car and he reversed into it, this immediate showed on his black box and we got a text.
Spoke to insurance company and they assured us all ok etc and one of those things.
Insurance due for renewal yesterday and when I checked emails they have increased premium by £120 for renewal because of this. Is there any point ringing about it or do I just have to take it on the chin and pay up ?
Thanks

That sounds fair - lack of elementary observations.
You don't have to pay up - shop around.0 -

thanks, probably no point shopping around - just loosing decent discount because of a years good driving with black box
Also maths poor - actually up £220, so gutted

When did they leave the bin behind his car? Before he got in and turned the engine on?0

How did the black box know he hit a bin? Has the black box got a camera at the rear of the car? Or did it just record a violent emergency stop?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

it sensed he had been involved in an accident, not sure if impact or sudden braking. No damage to bin or car, not even a scratch0 -

So the driver told the insurance company he had hit a bin, thereby admitting to an accident?
Pity he didn't just tell them he did an emergency stop as someone stepped out behind him, or he stamped on the brake pedal instead of the clutch. But he'll know better next time."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". I would first find out if it's impact related or not.
Driver: "Emergency stop as someone stepped out, but didn't hit them
Insurer: "Oh, you hit them as black box shows impactt".0 -
