  • Went in to my local homebase yesterday and they had reduced thier bulbs to £1.99 a pack. Intend to plant them in pots for presents. Cost of white value pot £1.99. Also need compost. Reckon it works out at about £3.00 a pot:A x
  • 2x Silver coloured photo frames 4x6Bought from Boots.Cost? £0. I bought two silver photo frames from Boots as they were buy 1 get 1 free and used my advantage points, so they didn't actually cost me anything for a £5 secret Santa.
    :rotfl:
    • Name of present? PDF CD/Folder
    • Do you make it or buy it? Make it, but with possibility of having to buy
    • Total Cost? £1 max for a blank CDR from Pound shops, cheaper if you have a reel of them already, or cheaper if you buy in bulk - £5.99 ish for a box of 10 from most high street shops or supermarkets. The information can be bought for 1p-£1 on ebay, or for free by using normal internet search engines. If you want to use a Ringbinder instead, and put the info in plastic wallets you can probably buy a hole punch, wallets and binder for £2 ish from cheap stationary shops, supermarkets or Pound shops.
    • Details (the more the better) My idea is recipes, but you can pick anything that people store and collect information on. You can either buy/download PDF's online of recipes, and then save them to CD (ebooks available on ebay or downloadable if you search for them), or google any sort of recipes you like, cut and paste to a word document (with the pictures too if you wanted) and save to the CD, or save as .htm files on the CD. If you didn't want to use a CD you could print them onto paper and put into a folder with plastic wallets, and if you wanted to be *even better* you could get some A4 dividers and separate the folder into meat dishes/veggies dishes/soups/salads/starters/desserts/preparation tips etc etc. Then design a front cover sheet with word or powerpoint etc, with for example a clipart picture of an oven and WordArt of "Mabel's Best Recipe's" or whatever, then print it off and tape it to the front of the folder! :)
    • Name of present? Footprints in a frame
    • Do you make it or buy it? Both
    • Total Cost? £1 for a big squirty tube of paint from ELC or any other shop like that selling cheap water based paint. 50p for a cheap small photo frame - can up the price depending on how fancy or big you want your frame to be. Marginal cost for sheets of card or paper.
    • Details (the more the better) Get your children or pet with paws if you are feeling brave (or yourself!!!) covered in paint on their feet. Get a left and a right foot printed onto a piece of card or paper, leave them to dry and then write on them in glitter pen or normal pen... well write anything you want..! Either the name of the child and the date they made the prints... or anything really. Can do it with hands too, but my boy is only 3 months and doesn't like opening his hands up so for me personally that would be a bit of a mission!! Put the dried print into the photo frame and voila :)
By the way sorry these are late, I only just got the money saving email with the link to this thread in :o
    • Name of present? Football stadium Aerial photo
    • Do you make it or buy it? Buy
    • Total Cost? £4.99 for an aerial photo of a football stadium on ebay through ebay username aerophotouk
    • Details (the more the better) OK so the postage is £1.45 on top but if you were to buy a few, I reckon he would probably combine postage - I have bought off him before and they come in poster tubes, so can easily get more than 1 in there.

Great gift for a football fan :) Although it wouldn't be in the £5 bracket you could always frame it very cheaply but it's not necessary.
    • Name of present? CD Clock
    • Do you make it or buy it? Both?
    • Total Cost? Can pick up free internet trial CD's from some electrical shops, or use existing CD's you no longer want, or use blank CDR's - about 5.99 for a box of 10 or £1 for 1 from a pound shop, and clock mechanism £3.49 on ebay see link below or can probably get cheaper in bulk.
    • Details (the more the better) Put the CD into the clock mechanism, and voila, 1 cd clock. Optional- You can use CD labels to personalize your clock if you want, can buy the labels from ebay, and the software is a free download, called Expressit.
example clock mechanism kit on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAKE-YOUR-OWN-CD-CLOCKS-WITH-THIS-CLOCK-MECHANISM-KIT_W0QQitemZ230191318040QQihZ013QQcategoryZ75576QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
