That sounds a bit extreme.
Although while looking at a party for DD, the place she had her party offered a "deluxe" party that included chocolate making, food and party bags and cost £27/child (min 10:eek: ).
I was a bit shocked!
We went for the no-frill option at £12 /head (it was a lot already) and I supplied all the food. But TBH, the party bags were good (book, bubbles, flower press, pencil and no SWEET!).
My kids alternate home parties and outside ones. Spreads the costs a bit!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
£25 for a party bag  how silly,I cannot believe that someone could be so stupid to spend that, but then I suppose in this materialistic world it is true.
I try to do old fashioned parties for my 2,the kids love it,party bags cost next to nothing and they all go home laughing having had a brilliant time.
Kids don't need money to enjoy themselves, just having parents around to share the fun, play a good game and watch the jelly wobble onto the floor.
At my DD's party, there was a girl who had NEVER seen jelly before, she thought it was great and couldn't stop going on about it to her mum when picked up,her mum wasn't keen on her DD having jelly, said it wasn't healthy? interestingly, this is the mother who is too busy to cook and everything comes out of a jar and she's worried about a sugar free jelly

That is ridiculous!
I would rather put the money into and account for my daughter! As has been said before, children don't care whether £25 or £2.50 has been spent, as long as they have fun!0 -
NO WAY!
Oh my giddy aunt!!!!
My dd is having her party at home in Nov. Her party bag goodies have all been reduced stuff.
The cake will be hommeade as my dd loves butterflies so will make a sponge & rol out icing & cut butterfly shapes & stick it to the cake.
I can't stand the competitive mum syndrom thing, makes me quite angry!

My daughter (in London, very very competitive mummy territory) has a brilliant system. She rings this marvellous little woman she knows (me) and I do the rounds of £land, Home Bargains etc.
Tomorrow 20-odd children will get:
tub of play-doh
hologram pencil
animal shaped eraser
tube new natural smarties (reduced to 50p for 4 in Waitrose, in date till 2007)
screaming balloon that will drive all the parents to drink by bedtime
The whole lot cost a tenner. I should really set up in business!0 -

Hi KraftyKate,
There are a few threads on birthday parties and party bags on the Families board, so I've moved your thread over there to see if you can get more replies.

I know a mother who always examines the party bags and passes judgement on what was spent
She looked down her nose at me for putting Asda branded sweets in one of my sons party bags
She paid for a party at a local soft play and arrived armed with bag loads of stuff. She claimed the bags provided were not suitable, so she topped them up with bits she'd bought. Crazy woman! Here I go again on my own....0 -
Does anybody know of a cheap site for party boxes, the best price I can find is 40p each? What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -

i dont want to spend a fortune but as she will be 9 and her friends the same age. i wanted to put a really decent but very cheap (lol) present in the party bags with the sweets etc...
what can i get that will look like i am super generousbut not cost a lot.
i was thinking of getting swimming goggles or something like that but i cant find any cheap enough
come on people help me out with suggestions!!!!!
Hi, Divadee! Did you get an answer to your question? I did a swim party for DS in February - he was 11. However, this was a "biggie" and he invited all his class and more (this isn't usual, for previous years he had a samll party at home!). So we hired all the pool, and the party bags weren't lavish - drink, snack, and HM cake. They're starving when they come out.
For girls, how about Clair's accessories? They often do things recuced, and we've got loads of party treats for my DD's friends there.
Hope I'm not too late, and
Penny. x
