Sorry to hijack the thread but I too received this email and am wondering if there is anything I can do as although I have had my XL IQ Routes some years I recently paid a further £40 for a 1 year map update service which will no longer be provided0

As the device is still going its within its lifetime to me, They should offer a lot more than 30% off, with a trade inDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Frustrating, I know, and the OP has my sympathies. 'Lifetime' might be best replaced with a different word . . . but I can't think of one, and TomTom evidently can't either.
The only consolation is that at least there were some free updates. Try that with the motor industry, and all the hype it pumps out in regard to its in-car satnavs. Our own car was bought factory fresh in July 2015, yet when we drove out on a ring road that opened in January of that year, that road wasn't on the satnav. Only fields.
We eventually discovered that the satnav was a version current as at December 2014, though installed when the car was built 7 months later. We also discovered that, where the motor industry is concerned, there's no such thing as free upgrades during the "lifetime" of the manufacturer warranty period.
You want a new satnav map for the in-car device? Buy it. Every year.
We manage just fine with a cheap AA roadmap and what our oh-so impressive in-car satnav screen informs us are fields, canals, and on one occasion, a river.
BMW’s iDrive and the Mercedes Comand systems both have free updates the warranty period. I presume others do too.0 -

Never paid for an update on my now 4 year old VW Golf, pretty sure I don’t on my on order GTE either.0 -
Given Tomtom have advised that they are stopping your lifetime service I would advise an (urgent) appointment with your GP to see if there is anything that can be done (perhaps an experimental treatment in the USA??).
If the outcome is not positive can I have 1st dibs on any tools you might have in your garage?
;-)Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???0 -
Anyone checked if the devices get one last update?
We have a pretty old but perfectly functional XXL550m bought stateside years back...updated it last year for a pal to borrow, worked fine for them - wonder if TomTom will allow any final updates.
The bit I find naughty is the lack of notice.
Give me the ability to get the latest update before you decide to drop everything.
Bought a Via52 at Christmas for someone - now wondering if that was a mistake - 'lifetime updates', but perhaps they will drop that in 12 months.Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0
