Royal Mail - Redirection renewal cost

I've had a good look at the Royal Mail site and can't find anything about renewal cost vs redirection cost.
We have a slight issue with a family member redirecting to out address even though they now have their new address, they've stated it was cheaper to renew than to change to their own new address, so they went ahead and did so without asking.
It wouldn't normally bother me, but for the fact that 90% of our mail is now theirs, worse still a lot of their mail requires a door knock, and they've gone and renewed for a year
Anyone renewed recently?

It’s just the same cost. If you pay for 3 months redirection it costs exactly the same if you want to renew the redirection.0

Return to sender sounds tempting, how close of a family member are they?0

they've stated it was cheaper to renew than to change to their own new address,
How long have they redirected their mail to you? Sounds like they don't want some people they might be owing money to to know where they live...0 -
I agree with Fbay. They don't want someone knowing their address. They could just get it redirected to their new address for the same cost
And of course getting companies to write to your new address is free...0 -
Just tell them they will have to collect their mail from your houseIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

That doesn't really help if they don't want it deliver to them in the first place.
I would tell them to cancel it or you'll cancel it. After all I'm sure if you told Royal Mail you were getting post for unknown people they'd stop it. Or just return all to sender. Put your foot down. Do you get any thanks for this, wine, meal out?0 -

I wonder if there's something less sinister going on. To apply for a redirection online the applicant's card needs to be registered at either the old address (the OP's) or the new address (wherever the relative is living now) and the relative hasn't got round to updating the bank with the correct address. As they have already been having mail redirected to the OP's home there might not be the same address check requirement.0

If they had renewed for a month I'd believe that - time to change the address with the bank. But a year!0
