I already charge this individually but wanted to know the going rate for lets say 4-5 common entrance exam students in a class each. That is to say, what should I charge each student in the group - unless you already meant 27 pounds each!!!
For the 11+ 1 student = £30, 2 students = £48
I would never teach anymore than 2 students for the 11+ and generally most parents want one to one tuition with their child.
For A Level = £27 (1 Student), £40 (2 students) again you find most parents and students prefer 1 to 1 tuition.
KS2 = £20 per hour, KS3 and GCSE = £25.O/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0 -
Yes, I have, Valerie. But it's how to get a foot in the door, as it were.
With adult tuition it's a case of advertising locally, I dare say, but how to make myself known to businesses so that they consider me for tuition is another issue.
Niemand - have you tried contacting local business associations such as the local Chamber of Commerce? They might be able to help. If not how about contacting computer repair shops and see if you might be able to tie-up your marketing with one another?
In terms of the discussion on being young, I started tutoring when I was 19 and my age has never been a problem. Knowledge, approachability and commitment are far more important than grey hairs! If you want to add that extra bit of credibility to your marketing, having a Tutor Check could be the way to go about it. The inspiration from it came when I was in a similar boat to some of you - quite young, no teaching qualification but bags of knowledge and enthusiasm and the confidence that I was helping my pupils. Also a CRB/Disclosure Scotland check is a moral (if not legal) essential.
Hope that helps for both queries.

Hi
I have a masters degree in Philosophy and an undergrad degree in Psychology and Philosophy. I'm solid on English Literature and Maths - so could I tutor?
Philosophy doesn't seem very marketable! I work full time at a University (not as an academic, but a manager).
Help appreciated!

Hi, Im guessing you maybe able to - best to contact any agency and see what they say - do you have a teaching qualification? do you have any knowledge re exam boards and different course content? if so then you could certainly give it a go! xxxO/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0 -
Hi Henry
I am wondering if you need a teaching qualification in order to be a private tutor in sectors such a cookery skills, nutrition, healthy eating and weight loss?:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -
Got insanely busy with queries again at the moment - can't take on any more pupils until some of my current bunch move on (and I've got sats marking kicking in in a few weeks which will make me incredibly busy) so having to defer a lot of queries until a few months time.
Demand in primary is absolutely insane (it's particularly Maths at the moment) - I could work every evening going if I didn't want to keep it to just a few (and the prep burden in control). Must have been a lot of parents evenings recently - last time I had a surge of enquiries it was just after the last batch of parents evenings too.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Some very interesting stuff here especially the 'tutor pages' google link - am considering teaching guitar privately so have learned a lot - thanks everybody.0

I was considering being a private tutor, at the moment I'm studying English and Film (1st year degree) and was considering going into teaching, but I'm not too sure how to go about it. I mean, I could teach English and Maths up to 11 (I sat the 11+, I think I remember how things go, and could always take a look at the BBC Bitesize site) and then English up to A-Level? How would I go about advertising? And would it go against me that I'm still a student (I'm 26 though btw)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Hi peeps.
Just thought i would drop in about the tuition through schools paying £25 per hour. I realise that it would be to suppliment another job, but i do it after my working day as a teacher and I end up with £13 per hour after taxes/pension etc. Just wanted to make any teachers out there thinking about it to weigh up options. I do an additional 3 hours per week after school and knowing that i could be making £75 and only actually bring in £39 is pretty hard to take when absolutly shattered. Just thought i would mention it!
HI will stop spending without thinking.......:mad:0 -
i teach and then tutor to private clients on evenings and at weekends. I will be completing a self assessment next year -JOY oh JOY!
Those of you asking do you need a teaching qualification - its best to contact an agency directly and see what they say - however you will need CRB check. Its also wise to remember that parents aill ask you where you teach and they are paying a lot of money per hour so they will want to now that they are getting good tuition - so please know the exam boards and the requirements for each syllabus - they DO vary!
