    I've been Money Tipped!
The buyer used false information to gain financially - it's fraud.

If they had walked up to you and stolen an item worth £400 then you would have reported it as a crime - this is no different really.

I was thinking all the way through this thread that this is fraud/theft, and the OP should go to the police.

Not had anything like this either so not sure if I'm of help, but what is Ebay saying? Have you actually reported them to Ebay? You must let Ebay know there is a problem with this seller and keep on at them until they act, this is an act of fraud. As far as I can make out your buyer bypassed Ebays resolution centre and opened directly with Paypal, Ebay will take note of that too as it is not normal procedure. It may be Ebay will reimburse your Daughter under seller protection.

I was in my PO recently and a woman was in there in tears because her buyer was claiming the envelope she sent jewellery in was empty on receipt and was claiming hundreds of pound back via Ebay. Scams regarding jewellery seem to be as widespread as mobile phone scams!

There is no problem at all if a buyer goes to paypal rather than ebay to open a case, ebay will not reimburse the seller based on that as it is not unusual. There is no requirement for any buyer to opt to use the ebay rather than paypal route.

I was talking to a new ebay seller the other day, sold 4 things, first was a car windscreen, sent in a giant box, buyer refused delivery, 2nd some other part of a car, buyer fitted new one and sent old one back, 3rd man did the same and 4th one pretended that what ever it was had not arrived.

Now thankfully banned, with paypal demanding all the money he thankfully managed to withdraw, back.

So it seems whatever you try to sell risks chancers and thieves.
