Just to clarify I do hope to be able to rehome this cat with me and my partner and I am awaiting my dads response regarding this. If I do this I would absolutely speak with the owner and any changing of microchip will be done with her consent.
If it were me I'd just get the cat. I wouldn't wait for my dad to decide when he's had months to sort it out. But then I wouldn't have let it go on so long if I had a home it could have.
Cats can die in weather like this. Just go get it and then tell your dad if he decides he will look after it properly then you'll bring it back. Don't leave it out there another night.
    Exactly!
    What are you waiting for?
    It's not your Dad's cat.
    It's not your Dad's girlfriend's cat.
It has nothing at all to do with what your Dad and his girlfriend want to do with the cat.
Your Dad doesn't even want it in his garden.

If you want this cat (and that would be a really nice ending), speak to the current owners and if they are agreeable, re-home it with you. Before there is a sad ending.

OP appears to be in the process of house buying, not sure if she actually has completed and moved in yet hence not being able to take the cat immediately.

Update: my dad phoned and said I can’t take the cat as his girlfriend has grown affectionate towards it. So he’s planning on looking into getting a cat flap although I doubt this will happen. Help I think if I kidnap it this will cause major issues when they visit us. I don’t know how to move forward. The owners were not particularly helpful when I first visited them.

How can she have grown affectionate towards it if she won't even have it in the house, and your Dad doesn't want it there? She's not there all the time,so what will happen then? This cat is not going to get what it needs staying where it is.I don't know the answer, but it needs sorting fast before the cat suffers any more.

It sounds like your Dad is putting this woman and her selfish desires way ahead of you and certainly way ahead of the poor cat.If it is going to be treated a lot better then fair enough but if you doubt they will even get a cat flap, then nothing has improved for the poor creature.

The only option I can see is if you do kidnap it,you would need to find another good home for it.Or when they visit, get a friend to have it for the duration !
  • Maybe put one of those paper collars on the cat and see if any other neighbours are also feeding it or letting it in and might want to rehome it? Then the cat gets its needs met but you can avoid unpleasantness with your dad and his girlfriend because the cat will still be around and will probably visit.

This cat deserves more than this:

So the current situation is: My dad doesn't want this cat. It's his home, his partner doesn't live there but she's round a lot. My dad misses the birds and is not a cat person. His partner wants this cat. She puts food out for it in a dirty wet bowl that is left outside and she lets it in occasionally (they don't have a cat flap). Whilst I stayed with my dad over Christmas, I heard the cat frequently crying to be let in but it spends most of it's time outside.
even if they do put a cat flap in.

    I'll say this again:

    ETA:
and looking at your latest thread, this cat needs a home elsewhere than with your Dad..

@Help1234 is there any update on what happened to the poor cat? I'm hoping there's a happy ending!
    Mortgage received 21/12/2018
    Mortgage at start - £261,980
    Current mortgage - £260,276
Saving towards a loft conversion first, then to smash the mortgage down!
  • Contact your local cat charity / home or your local branch of Cats Protection and tell them about the case. This is really the original owner's responsibility - the charity will probably try to speak to them and ask them to give the cat up for adoption.
If that all goes through then you would be first in line to adopt the cat officially.
Then everything is by the book, you have got around this awful woman (and I agree, she sounds awful), and all you have to do is cope with a bit of comeback from her.
