Speak to the orignal owners, explain the issue and if they agree just take the cat to a shelter to be rehomed.

edit: or yes as Quizzical said below, keep the cat yourself after checking with the owners

You don't need to tell your dad or his partner, they'll just think it found somewhere else.

I don't think this is about the cat, it's about your dad's girlfriend who it's obvious you have a problem with. Let him sort it out.
Wow. Yes I don't like the woman but I care about animal welfare and it doesn't sit right with me listening to a cat crying everyday because it's cold outside and it's bowl has dirty leaves in it rather than food. If you think this situation is OK then I recommend you don't have any animals yourself and you probably shouldn't be frequenting this particular board. This has been going on over 6 months and he hasn't sorted it out yet and it's freezing.

Thank you, I have met with the owners they only live a few doors down but hadn't seen the cat in almost a year now! After I found out they were the owners they rang round to put the cat on waiting lists to be rehomed. That was September and we have heard nothing since.

Red Squirrel: please read my post properly. Microchip details cannot be changed w*lly-nilly.
It is also unethical to start treating someone else's cat.

Please please get this poor little cat out of this awful situation.Tell your Dad the owners have asked you to take it on(having read they have been wanting it rehomed I'm sure this is the case anyway?) your Dad will be happy, you will be happy and the original owner will be happy.Above all the cat will be happy.Stuff what the part time girlfriend wants or thinks. She clearly hasn't a clue. She is probably only doing it to be awkward.

Agree with Froglet- poor little beastie- it is not just regular clean food, shelter and vaccinations the poor cat deserves some affection from a full time owner.

I did read it properly, maybe you need to read mine again? It’s not possible to change chip details ‘willy nilly’, the chip companies don’t allow it.

Just to clarify I do hope to be able to rehome this cat with me and my partner and I am awaiting my dads response regarding this. If I do this I would absolutely speak with the owner and any changing of microchip will be done with her consent.

Good to hear that. Please keep us updated on how it goes.Driven out of it's first home by the dog then made to live outside when all it wants is warmth, food and affection this cat will be forever grateful to you.
  • If it were me I'd just get the cat. I wouldn't wait for my dad to decide when he's had months to sort it out. But then I wouldn't have let it go on so long if I had a home it could have.
Cats can die in weather like this. Just go get it and then tell your dad if he decides he will look after it properly then you'll bring it back. Don't leave it out there another night.
