The bank verification is sometimes astonishing me. I have never dealt with Coventry BS before When I applied to their RSA, the product got opened wihout further check is required. People who have been banking with them need further ID, proof of address check.

In the meanwhile, I had quite a long-standing relationship with Scottish BS due to a special saving I hold with them. But since a few years ago I closed all of my accounts. I recently applied for their RSA. They asked me to send the proof of ID and proorf of address and they mentioned clearly it has got to be either Solicitors or Banks officers.

Looking into this op case again (below), I get more convinced now to what I have been believing sofar. The case has been handled by either an inexperience novice banks official or Lazy bank officials. Of course, the easiest one is just to ask you to send you all the certified documents again rather them for them to do online ID checking. You find sort of these people in any industry. Unfortunately there is nothing we could do about it.

I just applied for the Coventry RS but despite being an existing member I wasn't given account details straight away but got the following message:

We'll post a copy of your application to you straight-away. Please check it carefully then sign it and post it back to us with identification (if required) in the pre-paid envelope.
We'll confirm on your application form if identification is needed.

Once you have received your account number and sort code, you can make a deposit in these ways:
• Transfer from another Coventry account
• Transfer from an account with another bank or building society. (You'll need to quote your sort code and the last 8 digits of your account number)
• Post us a cheque

I opened the Coventry RS two days ago without issue. I already had an account with them so logged on & applied. The whole thing took barely 5 minutes, & the new account was showing within a couple of hours. The funding also went straight in.

They haven't asked for any additional i.d. so far.

I opened a Coventry RS yesterday as a brand new customer. Electronic checks must of been carried out as I was given an account number and sort code with which to make the first deposit. Now waiting for my login details to be sent in the post.

Glad that I already had an appointment for 4PM today

Fortunately made a provisional appointment a few weeks ago, but had to insist... to get one

Do you have an update on this please?

Same has happened to OH. I'm hoping it's just a print off of the form with a signature required rather than original/certified ID docs required.

I have not yet received anything from Coventry. When I logged on to my accounts yesterday nothing was showing either. I'll probably phone them if nothing in tomorrow's post.

I always send them a secure message if I have a problem and they either ring me or answer my query with a reply in my account inbox. They send an email to you when they have answered your query.

I opened a Coventry Regular Saver yesterday. It said account details would be sent in the post. I registered for online banking at the same time, and it said my log in username would be sent in the post. So I clicked on 'forgot user ID', it asked me password / security questions I had set up when registering for online, and it told me my username. So I logged on and my account details were there.

This didn't work for me, it said I needed a 'grid card' which was in the post.
