I would love to show you a picture of my Pumpkin which I had grown, however we carved a face into it and put it on the doorstep for halloween, and some Scroats nicked it! It was about the size of a football and I was chuffed with it! I have managed to save the seeds though and will be trying again next year... how about you?
Sarah
PS, You definately need to start earlier, perhaps march or april!
I'm never growing pumpkins again. I don't even like them.:rotfl:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I wish you'd carved a face in it and put a candle inside!Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet...0

I wish it had been big enough to do that....If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
mr bad example I want to know just what did you do wrong?
I grew mine on a manure heap in full sunshine. it got knocked about by the pesty chickens a lot but we still managed 4 good sized ones, the biggest taking two people to carry it. I dont live that far from you so not the weather. I wonder if you had enough manure in the soil - they are very greedy plants.
If it is any consolation they tasted of nothing and two rotted before Halloween!'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -

I got drunk and thought it would be a bright idea to grow pumpkins!
Seriously though, I think I would have been better off if I had started earlier (i.e. in time) and chosen a different variety. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
ChunkyMonkey,
You could also use old plastic bottles, save you drilling holes in all your plant pots!
Just chop the bottom off, turn them over and put them in the ground with the 'spout' end downwards. Minus the lid of course. Then, as you say, the water goes straight to the roots where it's needed. And you get to re-use any old placcy bottles instead of having to lug them to the recycling place (not collected from where I live).
They also make very good mini-cloches for titchy plants.
HTHNever put off to tomorrow what you know you can do today.0
