The great pumpkin challenge.

Oh, incidentally, I asked my dad for some advice, as he's a proper gardener, not like me.
His reply? "Fill it with lead shot, son." :rolleyes:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Good man your Dad
practical I bet.
The big one second in looks good, nice stem structure (just act like you know what you are talking about and its amazing what people will believe)
Don't plant them out too early though! wait until they have a few true leaves, not the seed leaves they have right now. Do protect them right now from slugs! I don't want you crying on here they have all been eaten
edit, oh they are inside, why haven't you got them in your new greenhouse, they would be alot better off outside.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

They'll be in there soon - just getting them started in the heated propagator.
 And is that a leaf or a root sticking out of the pot?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Ok, these four are the first to out-grow the propagator, and be transferred to the greenhouse.
One question: How much water should I currently be giving them?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The front one looks a bit dry.

The pumpkins are now ready for planting out. I have to choose an area of lawn to sacrifice and dig up. I bought a couple of bags of manure today, and went out to assess the task before me. It's going to be really hard work digging up the lawn, and the ground was like concrete today. I left it in the hope that it'll be a bit easier after some rain, and it's kindly chucked it down all afternoon.
Having said that, I'm away this weekend so it'll have to wait until next week. :rolleyes:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
On the plus side, my mate planted his out last week, only to have another mate's dog trample them. They're not looking too great.

Talking about that, stick some chicken wire over yours, to stop cats digging them up.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
