Whilst we've had the tree up for almost a week, we haven't had any other decorations yet - started doing them tonight and several have made their way into the CS box - will drop them off tomorrow morning in the hope that they can sell some in the next couple of days.....

My local CS has few Christmas items of any kind left - or so I thought- as all are marked at half price, and placed at the front of the shop. However, they are selling well and the area is restocked as items arrive.

Much better taking them now than in January.

Sadly I have to report our Christmas tree lights have died. These were a very precious set, over 50 years old, which had been on Grandparents, parents and my tree. They made it through our house move this year and worked OK for a few days, but there was a bit of a scorching smell and yesterday they packed up. I've taken them off the tree and discovered that one bulb has melted the flower fitting and all of the rest of the bulbs have blown. Can't get the bulb out of the melted fitting, and don't really think I can risk them again even if we could get them going. I do have enough spare bulbs. Such a shame, feeling sad. I think I will keep them as a momento and memory of happy times in the past.
You reminded me of a picture I took over twenty years ago. Our lovely 1960's tree lights (shaped like little flowers) broke and couldn't be repaired so I took a photo of my parents holding the lights and box. I asked my mum to hold a tissue as if she was shedding a tear ( I was gutted they had broken) but you can see she is trying not to laugh. I miss them more than the lights but I'm glad I still have the photo.

    :) That's such a heart-warming story, FF. Just lovely.

Visited my pal with her christmas present and two things which I had offered her two months ago but not got around to delivering. Checked beforehand and she was pleased to have those two never-used items.

That has freed up some stoage space, which is pleasing. :D

    Great story.

They sound a lot like mine - little chrysanthamum flowers, in a blue and yellow box I think they're called Floralites (box is in the loft at the moment).

Ours were Vesta ones in a green and yellow box but Chrysanthemum ones sound lovely. I think it is nice when trees have items on them which remind you of previous Christmases. On which note I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2020. I don't post on the thread often but I do enjoy reading the comments and finding inspiration for a mini clear-out.

I have been given two sturdy Delsey suitcases by a friend, which we will use for storing clothes mice-free for Africa, and then transporting the items. The suitcases will not come back to Europe (at least not by us!). It will make storing the clothes easier, as well.

I threw out a pair of watershoes (the plastic ones you can protect your feet with on cobbly shores), as they were accidentally brought back from Africa by husband and I had to clean them and just couldn't make myself do it.

I'm the one who's got the baubles from our childhood Christmas tree - they're very small compared to nowadays, but very sweet. I've identified an ongoing craft project for next year (a wallhanging of a Christmas tree, using my stash, nothing new to be bought) and they'll go really well on that.

Otherwise, my policy of using things up and therefore depleting my stash of clothes is working well - a t shirt has died (so thin its translucent through two layers of cloth :rotfl: and a pair of socks has also died, at the heels.

Karma, I relate to your small decorations. I'm not a fan of the massive ones that seem to be everywhere now. I saw a couple of decs today I would have bought had they been smaller, but left them. We do small and beautiful on our trees.

From.the 6 of us yesterday there was only 1 unwanted present (some trading went on for others!) - a thick new scarf which has been put aside to add to the homeless collection point - very male in design and totally not to the taste of any of the 4 males in the house! Some excess bars of chocolate may also make their way to the foodbank.

Hoping you all had a lovely day xx
