NuffinisFree - I was thinking about moving house a few years ago and got rid of a lot of stuff.

I find it helpful to think would I bother to pack this item if I was moving house? Would I miss it if I donated it instead?:)

silvasava - can you please let me have the details of the local charity that supports trafficked girls? It sounds like a great idea, and I probably have some things they can benefit from.

Hi Greenbee - its a local charity called Stella's Voice. Their website is
    stellasvoice.org.uk
I think the nearest shop for you may be Portsmouth as they dont have very many. Their website tells you all about their ethos.
Hope you are OK - are you still travelling?

Husband managed to fix our extra car! He had had a request (and money) from a friend in Africa to look for a secondhand 4x4. He sourced one, had it delivered at a friend's garage, and then it wouldn't start anymore! We transported it to an official dealer, who said it was the Engine Contol Unit (a computer) and replacement would cost €3,000. We moved the car back to our place, took out the ecu and took it to an ecu specialist, who said nothing was wrong with it. We had it transported to a handyman, who said it was the ignition unit, and a new secondhand part would be at least €900. Husband asked around, calling many dealers and car people, and figured out the problem. He then sourced a replacement part in the UK for €180, which took three weeks to arrive, today. He installed it, and the car is running again!!!

In the meantime, he had bought and shipped a different car to the friend. So, we will ship this car to Africa for him to use when he spends August there. We will fill up the car with all the items I collect for his relatives, and afterwards he will sell it, and hopefully make enough profit to pay for his trip there :)

:T Wow, Siebrie, kudos to the husband's resourcefulness!

I am kondo-ing by proxy later today as went to a pal's last night and she has given me two tops to pass to the charity shop. I was also amused to hear from my Dad that he is putting some photos in albums and labelling them so me and brother will know the minor particupants in the event pictured.

Why is this amusing? Because they are the 'rents wedding pix and they have gone several years past their golden wedding!:rotfl:

    We have caught another mouse.....

I will be so happy to see the 'Africa' pile go! It is currently at least seven of those extremely large shoppers.

Remember from earlier in the thread where I had identifed some gaps in dds' wardrobes? We have now bought a pair of sandals for each of them. Which means that I now have two small, rather plain, shoeboxes; oh, the joy of anticipation :rotfl:

One shoebox now holds my constructive underwear :) The other is awaiting its destination.

:D The joy of a shoeboxes, they are my preferred unit of containment for small fiddly things within cupboards.

Yestereve, I fetched out a top which was gifted to me (2nd hand) from a friend's chazzer trawling a few months back. Being suited to summery rather than wintry weather means that I had washed and ironed it nicely and had it hanging on the clothes rail.

Put it on this morning and discovered that it is beyond loose-fitting, the sleeves actually come far enough down my hands to leave only my fingertips peeking out! I'm a big woman and cannot recall being so swamped by an item. Off it came and into the chazzer bag.

The second item off the rail is another blouse which has been irritating the heck out of me all day by riding up. That's now in the washer and will go chazzerwards once it has been washed and ironed nicely.

Have decided that things on the clothes rail which haven't been worn in a while, which is mainly tops, need to come off and have an excursion. If they don't suit, I can release them, I have plenty and they all came from chazzers anyway and have only cost a couple of pounds maximum - I won't bust the budget by letting them go. ;)

Three tops went to the chazzer today, the book I'm currently reading will leave after I've finished with it. Gotta keep the stuff on the move.

ETA; Just removed the tops mentioned above from my clothing inventory, a simple Word doc with tables in it. The irritating blouse cost me £2.40 back in Nov 2009 - good job it's a classic style and a gorgeous colour, should find a happy new owner soon, I reckon.

Blimey GQ you're organised, but that shouldn't suprise me by now.

I discovered KonMari this year (very late to the party) and watched lots of youtube videos for inspiration and actually managed to take multiple bags to charity shops and it helped me with my "hoarding" mindset of not wanting to throw things away in case "I need them one day".

I've been watching lots of minimalist videos on youtube as well and really like the idea of having a lot less clutter in my home.

Somehow I stumbled upon Flylady videos on youtube and signing up to the emails from Flylady and watching videos has given me that final push. Flylady says "you can't tidy clutter" and she advocates doing a little every day which benefits me as I work and commute so am only home evenings and weekends.

I can finally see the floor in my bedroom which is amazing! My 5 year old son even took a basket to the living room and put his toys in the other evening without any prompting from me :)

Time to tackle more cupboards and drawers around the house and slowly remove items that have been languishing there for years....it is freeing and lifts a weight from my shoulders!
