KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Hippo are a huge operation. You pay for volume of rubbish, specify vaguely that it's mostly building or garden waste, and don't put anything on the list of prohibited items in there. You're not specifically saying you're offering anything of value. It's all junk, and the builder is using them because they have the appropriate licences and hippobags are easy in small spaces than skips. He's paying to have it taken away, not getting money for it. Chances are you would have sold/traded in anything of value, and the builder certainly wouldn't leave anything worth selling on in an open skip or hippobag. Anything electrical left in one is worthless as it will probably have got wet.
Nothing will find a 'new home' - it'll be disposed of in line with the regulations for that material. It may be recycled, composted or incinerated. Some will end up in landfill if there are no other options (from memory they claim around 95% diverted from landfill - I'm sure their website will have up to date info). It's just like any other skip company.0 -
If the builder had an arrangement he should inform you, Karma - I've disposed of things beforehand which tradesmen had plans for (either reuse or resale) but were unknown to me - as the things were mine until they'd left my property I felt no remorse. I think they should be upfront with any plans!

Box of random misc items to CS yesterday, few items to foodbank collection point and a large bag of random small items (eg McDs toys, free-with-purchase cosmetic/ toiletry bags, hotel/ airline toiletries etc) to shoebox appeal. Only items in this week have been food and a couple of plants (freebies) (few pending items awaiting arrival - more plants (mse deal), new filter for fridge water dispenser and presents for DS3's bday)

Not a lot of 'unshopping' or decluttering going on here....but then not a lot of shopping either bar a couple of text books required and food
Need to address the decluttering though as DD2 will be returing to the homestead at end of June with BF in tow as they work their socks off all summer to fund their 6 months placement in paradise to finish off their degree course........they stayed last summer too and are very low maintenance if I am honest as they work long days but his time ALL of DD2s possessions will be home ( last year they left quite a lot in their student rent) and as DD1 is also away for at least another 18 months, leaving her stuff here too I am beginning to get a bit twitchy.....arris into gear methinks and address the stuff that is stored for selling/donating/recycling/gifting etc etc........you know the score!!

Today, in between resting, I'm kondoing plaster dust that's finally settling out of the air :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
If you're having plumbing work done, be aware that copper piping and old water tanks are valuable. Our neighbour pointed that out to me and we stopped our one walking off site with the plumber. We took it to trade in and got about £40-£60 for it if I recall correctly. This is what the plumber would have done, they see it as a nice little bonus if you're not aware of the value.Make £2025 in 2025

Bit of a purge going on here today - unplanned but nonetheless being done. Large quantity of cardboard collected together to go on tip run - will be next weekend now and about 6 'collections' of odd things put on fr**gle including a vast majority of bubble wrap I was going to insulate greenhouse with over winter but didnt get round to it and have now realised I will probably never really use the greenhouse in winter.....also a large quantity of the large supermarket shopping bags - woven plastic type. No idea why we have soooo many as I use 2 or sometime 3 when I go shopping!
Purge was really the result of me and OH having 'words' this morning before he left to go and pursue his extreme sport hobby for the day.....words over the storage of some empty plastic boxes in one of our sheds ready for when DD2 empties her student house .......stupid but got me fuming enough to let off steam by getting a few things done :rotfl:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Let me tempt you. As the language isn't that severe & really, who hasn't been here? George Carlin on Losing Things
The strangest places - oh yes. Not the suit (yet) but definitely inside the wellingtons. Where it Ought to be, repeatedly & blasphemously.
You may loose 8 minutes of your life, but actually you're sharing the whole "but I had it" experience, and thinking hey - next time, must try that!0 -

Haven't watched an episode of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on netflix but after reading this thread would definitely watch an episode or finish it at one sitting. Plus, I found these nifty ways of storage solutions for your kitchen: https://!!!!!!/2Up59BN and check it out.

I seem to just be fattening our mice... they eat the peanutbutter off the traps, and the traps will not have caught them. The traps flip down fast enough when they see my fingers, but do not move for the mice!Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590
