KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

My allotment shed padlock has obviously fallen through that hole too...hung it back on the rasp as I always do, went about my business, came back and it had vanished. The shed is standing on paving slabs for a good 3 foot to the front and sides and it couldn't have got underneath. It's been missing for over a year now, the area around has been dug, I've had the strummer on the grass, but no sign of it....
I've kept the keys for Justin (he loves a set of keys) so if anyone finds it under their sink, give me a shout and I'll send Justin over with the keys."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
 Wow, Pooky, these space-time anomalies are clearly happening even in the sacred Allotment Zone. I shall have to be careful on mine.
About 20 odd years ago, one of my great-uncles passed away in possession of a tatty cottage which had been the family home since the 1920s. He's long been hauling any sem-decent stuff off to the auctions (we found the receipts and even the caster cups from the legs of small pieces of furniture still sitting on the floor where he'd lifted the furniture off them) and what was left was c**p. A lot of it.
In the back yard stood a row of 6 x 8ft foot sheds, about 7 of them, all full of c**p insofar as we could see through the windows, each padlocked. In the kitchen dresser there were several bunches of old keys inc padlock keys. None of them fit the sheds, they didn't fit anything else we could find in home or outbuildings either.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

As Pooky will most certainly find out, there's always an odd key supplied for your new home that you can't find what it fits. We got one with ours. You daren't throw it away in case you suddenly come across some previously un-noticed lock that it opens.
Our current home went on the market yesterday. Was cleaned and tidyed within an inch of its life for the photos on Wednesday. Trying very hard to keep on top of it, hopefully we'll get it shifted pretty quickly (positive thoughts please dear friends). There are a number of viewings booked already for next Saturday and I've also offered the agent Wednesday morning as she had somebody wanting to view yesterday afternoon which wasn't convenient. She was concerned the man who seemed quite insistent/rude would turn up on my doorstep but fortunately he didn't. I can't ignore the door as sometimes I get customers visit me unexpectedly and I don't always know them by sight.Make £2025 in 2025

My kondo efforts are all still fairly established, but it’s always good to revisit as needs change, and ideas come to the fore. I kondo’ed an old toaster which had been failing to stop toasting, and setting the smoke alarm off, and burning toast. It was chucked out without much thanks as I was a bit annoyed at it!
In the space left from said toaster at the side of the fridge, I used my super strength magnets to stick my veg knife and kitchen scissors- so much easier to find/grab when needed! Smaller replacement toaster is now sitting pretty next to this “knife display”
April time brought a lot of updated bills and associated paper to sort which I was dreading a bit, but actually the “bills folder” is in good order, old papers out and new papers in. One pile of sensitive docs to shred (and deposit at work in the confidential waste bin). I love being shocked at how easy some things are post-KondoJan 20 - NST challenge

I'd never heard of KonMari until a couple of weeks back when I was given the book Sparks Joy from my son as a Mothers' Day gift- and suddenly it's cropping up everywhere I look, even though I'm obviously pretty late to the party.
So- being very much a Kondo newbie, I've made a start and have got a couple of bin liners of clothes ready for the charity shop. I'm actually pretty shocked by how easy it was to bid goodbye to some clothes I've had taking up space for years and have never been able to bring myself to let go. Once I realised that they simply didn't 'spark joy'...off they've tootled to new homes.
I was a bit concerned to discover that I've been inadvertently abusing my socks! It was with woe that I looked at the rolled together pair in one hand and held the book in the other, reading the admonition that such treatment is 'cruel' and to stop it!
I'm not sure what my tights think of me because my efforts have been temporarily halted- due to a rather spectacular bout of either food poisoning or a lurgy on steroids! I've only just started eating in the last 2 days. And then....I managed to wound myself in the kitchen this morning when I pulled a muscle in my shoulder blade by the foolhardy act of placing the tea bag canister on the kitchen countertop. I put a freaking tea bag canister down!!!!! I felt the 'ping' in my shoulder and was in so much pain I couldn't breathe. I can't even claim bragging rights to a Kondo- related injury (I was carrying so many bags of toys to give to the needy children at the orphanage, guv'nor....). Nope.
Tea bag canister.
When I write my autobiography, I'm probably gonna change that detail somewhat.
Anyhoooo...... Even though the Kondo-ing is on hold until I can a) bend without puking and b) move my damned arm more than 20 degrees, I'll be seeing what joy vibes I'm getting from the waiting items. There's a pair of trainer socks that I'm pretty sure is going to be suing me for cost of a therapist after my cruelty- but maybe the knickers can negotiate with them. They seem happy enough with how things have turned out.
Anyway- I'm happy to join the thread and read about others' experiences. Soooo.... Hi folks!Conquering the debts one penny at a time.....0 -
Hope you feel better soon Pennyfrog, you sock abuser you!
Slinky, good luck with the viewings, we lucked out and had a private buyer approach us through a friend, we'd had the valuations done and were just deciding who to go with agent wise and an offer was made. Good karma from all the kondoing I've been doing...or someone desperate to get their little angel into the village school, either way I'm not having to keep it "show home" standard - mind you some of the houses we viewed seemed to have been a stranger to a Hoover/mop/open window/damp cloth for a long time so I expect my "it'll do" would have been good enough.
I debated internally that I'm a pair of curtains short for the new house, smaller windows but I'll need to alter most of what we've got and could really do with a large pair of greens/browns for the French doors...low and behold an add popped up to remind me of a village jumble sale yesterday afternoon, I queued in the freezing cold, headed straight for the "linens" section and there was the exact pair of curtains I needed for a whole 50p (I paid £5 though because they're perfect and it was for charity).
Off to a boot sale this morning and could really do with finding a suitcase full of money.... (worth a try)"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Welcome Pennyfrog, great post
all ex-sock abusers are fine to be here
Pooky, great news on finding a buyer like that. And the curtains, that's brilliant!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Pooky we've got newbuilds a-plenty in our village at the moment, so we're having to drag it screaming and kicking to a good standard. We've just had somebody knock on the door enquiring if ours is the one for sale. The agent has put 'Open house' on the details without giving a date for it, she wasn't sure if she could just drop in....... I told her to speak to the agent. So hopefully that's at least 5 lots of people now who want to view. OH spotted somebody doing a drive-by yesterday when he was out the front. Unfortunately we're keeping out of the lounge which is at the front at the moment in an effort to keep it tidy, so we're not able to spy on any interest.
Would you believe it though, our neighbour opposite has dumped a tumble drier on his drive. It's not that sort of street! Probably waiting on a council collection. There's never a scrap metal collector around when you need one......Make £2025 in 2025

Have been kondoing knocks and scrapes this afternoon. The lids have been off the paint cans and I've been going round with artists brushes filling up the smallest of marks. It's amazing how many you can find if you start looking. We've also had the decorating caulk and silicone sealant out tidying up some cracks. Wanted to get some small things done in the garden, but it's been too chilly to venture out. Hopefully we'll do them tomorrow.
Will be kondoing the first of our rhubarb this evening. Will be making a crumble. Yum (I hope).Make £2025 in 2025

That reminds me, I must put filler in those two drill holes in the kitchen wall. Got as far as pulling the rawl plugs and fetching the polyfilla from the shed the other day, just need to follow through.
