KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I have sorted all my hotel toiletries and airline amenity packs out to go to the night shelter. Some have more stuff in than others due to the size of the bag, but hopefully they’ll be a nice treat as in addition to socks/earplugs/toothbrush & toothpaste/pen there are some nice travel size toiletries in there.
I don’t have as many washbags as usual as i’ve done less business class travel this year, but i’ve still managed to put 8 packs together.
I’m also sending a whole lot of plastic food tubs (they want them, and i’m trying to switch to glass), and sanitary items. I need to see what else I can find that’s on the list.
Siebrie - being executor is a big responsibility to ask you to take on. I hope your parents have informed your sister of their decision. Even so, it sounds as if she won’t make it easy for you. I’d encourage your parents to leave as little as possible! Give valuables to the people they want to have them now, while they can see them enjoy them, and spend their money on a comfortable retirement. The less there is left for you to deal with as executor the better! Having done probate once i’ve told my mum to spend all her money and save me the hassle...0 -
When I hear of the hassles after parents die it makes me glad I was an only - even though i had to arrange everything when my mum died and do the probate. Very big learning curve which has made me make sure my boys will have everything sorted as much as I can.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Glad to hear you're the only one Siebrie, though your sister sounds like she can be intimidating.
To be honest, I wouldn't recommend to an older person that they spend it now ... who knows what their needs might be in the future? A stairlift cost £2.5k two years ago. Carers might need to be paid from private funds, even nurses, who knows. The cost of easily digested nutritional food supplements for cancer patients who can't eat is very high - it was covered two years ago, but I don't know now. Specialist mattresses, drinking bottles, it's a different world.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
My Mum has just informed me that she will not clear out her linen cupboard, just in case one of them gets incontinent and all the sheets are needed some time in the future.

though maybe she can be persuaded to put them in vac packs, so they take up less space?

A particularly sweet and satisfying Kondo... My daughter has undergone 5 years on the IVF rollercoaster, and her wee babe, my first grandchild was born earlier this week :A
So today I parcelled up a Peter Rabbit soft toy that I bought as an act of faith some years ago, he was irresistible. He has a long overseas journey by email, and may not arrive quite in time for Christmas, but he took a bit of finding! He was in the very last box I took down, naturellement. Unfailing law when hunting for stored items.
One of this evening's tasks is to repack the shelf above the hanging rail in the fitted wardrobe. I'll be casting an eye into the boxes to see if there's anything else I can thank and send on its way. Much is knitting stash and my (very) long term ambition is to knit it all...0 -

Thank you for your good wishes oceanspirit, grunnie and greent!
Yes, I now have a use for my board of yarn! Some of that was an act of faith too, and I reckoned that I could always knit for charity if a grandchild didn't come along. Now I can do both, as there's plenty to go around0
