    Thats a great idea!

I'm afraid I may have kondoed two picture frames to my sister  they have fairly old photographs in them that I'm sure she'll want, and though I feel slightly weird in not negotiating for them, in reality I'm just not that interested in having those particular ones up on the wall. Or any really, it's not what I want from my wall space, I know I'm in the minority on that (and I've only just realised that thats what it is! My word!).

We have one pic (a stylised flower) on our bedroom wall. None others elsewhere. I have a few small photos in magnets of the kids on the fridge and a couple of small young school pics in frames on dining room windowsill and 1 framed photo of all 4 on a chest of drawers on our landing (so top floor where no one else sees it! :D)- and that is it. No other artwork / photos elsewhere (kids rooms are different - their choices) My house, my choices :) xx

Thanks for that, greent - kindred spirits, then! I have a *bit* more than that. A buddha over my bedroom chest of drawers. A mirror on each floor, and I've just given myself permission to get rid of two mirrors with very unusual frames, very small, that sit on the surfaces of things - which is counter productive for me, as I don't like things like that on top of things!

Two original drawings I bought at science fiction conventions of cats/alien lookalikes :), a silk painting of cats that my mother gave me, and a print of a picture from the 1850s of our ancestral church on Merseyside. Oh, plus a hanging my mother made, a Tree Of Life, I didn't want a quilt because the cats would shred it :o

I like the look of family and other photos in other people's places - the nephew I catsit for, for example, I really like what they've done - but when I think about it in my own house, the Nopetopus (sp?) comes out to play...

:) Hmmm, in my tiny flat, I have three wall-hung mirrors; big one in the hall, medium one in the bedroom and smallish one in the living room. Apart from the hall one which is where I check I won't frighten the horses before leaving home for the day, the others are to bounce light around.

The only other two things on the walls are one watercolour (still life with flowers) and whichever scenic or floral calendar I am enjoying that year.

I need quite a bit of empty space to rest my eyes on and the blank walls are soothing. Plus there isn't an awful lot of wall in here - one 2.5 litre can of emulsion covered all the walls, twice over, and left a third of the can over.

The big mirror was rescued from the discard pile at a bootsale, the middling mirror was rescued from the bin, and the littlest one I paid £2-£3 for at a chazzer. The watercolour cost me £6.50 from Barnardo's and I've loved it for years.

I have occasionally bought things full retail from proper shops, but I don't like to do it too often in case I get Shopping Germs on me. Or I'm seen doing it and ruin my reputation as a frugalista.;)

Just had a look round and realised I don't have too much on my walls either. Hall has a large mirror like GQ and a photo of DGD . Sitting room has a painting of two herons painted by a friend and a metal wall art over the fire - this is in a room 26 X 12 so not overwhelming! There is a picture or painting in each of the bedrooms but they are quite subtle too.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

  • I have quite a lot of pictures, all ones I've gathered over the years and love. I also have lots of mirrors, not because I like looking at myself but because they bring light in. I have some collages and group family photos which I really like, but I'm not one for individual pics.

Polly, I'm with you on the collages, I think photos look great grouped together.

Oooh - I hadn't included mirrors :) - I have one in the hallway and one in the living room above the fireplace. Also one above (as in wallhung) a chest of drawers in our bedroom and a full length one on our landing (sort of acts as a dressing area in between our bedroom and bathroom (loft conversion)) (And the bathrooms and cloak each have one above the sink)

It has only taken about 10 years but DD2 has finally kondo'd her room!! She wants to move into the bigger bedroom vacated by DD1 when she flew the nest but I put my foot down and said she was not turning it into a pit of squalor like her current room and she had to sort out her stuff first.

Three big black plastic sacks to the clothes bank today (and more to come!!) and eight full carrier bags full of young adult and older primary level books given to a couple of schools in a deprived ward of our otherwise affluent borough. They are very short of funds for things like school libraries and I would rather donate books to them than give them to a charity shop to be bought by just one family.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
