Managed quite a few 'outs' this week. A pile of unused crockery going to the CS - 8 dinner plates, 6 cups and saucers and 6 bowls plus a couple of odds. DS2 came round this morning and I gave him 4 children's books for his step grandson. A pot of quince jam to DS1 and DH emptied the glass bin at the local SM. I did have two books to return to a friend but she wasn't at the club today, I've also got a pair of trousers for her to try as they were too short for me but they'll have to stay in the boot until I see her again!

Today I decided that for me it has been a good thing not to be up to date with Kondoing. Over the years OH and I have camped in folding campers a motor home and have today bought our 3rd caravan. During this time we have needed single, king size and double bedding, both at the same time in some of the units. Same in the house, no single beds now. A delve in my capacious linen cupboard has yielded 2 single fitted sheets (I know I gave others away), so having spend a chunk of the kid's inheritance at least I can save a few quid on the bedding.:rotfl::rotfl:

TBH it does need a jolly good sort out and has been earmarked for a rainy day, I think the CS will gain a few double sheets and I need to look for a couple of singles. Need extra to keep the dog hairs off the furniture.

My sister's offered to help me paint the bright blue sound insulation in my living room before Christmas, so I decided I needed to sort some of the genealogy papers that have got stuck in there :o unsticking is a wonderful effect of KM and even of general decluttering. I *am* putting like with like. All the photos have long been together, as well as the birth marriage death certificates, now its about letters in one set of goods, and documents in another.

Another piece of "unsticking" I did was to put like with like on all my unused postage stamps. Now I have all the 20p stamps together, for instance, it's a lot easier to work out the right way to pay the correct postage on any one letter. And there were quite a few I hadn't put into the "collection" box - the ones with a ha'penny on the value!

:D I've been amusing myself this evening with TEDx talks from zero-wasters whilst mending an injured supermarket bag for life. It's now back in service with an artisanal patch. Since I have a design degree (it's in the sock drawer if anyone needs to see it ) it's technically a designer patch.:rotfl:

:o Sometimes, I mend things just to solve a series of minor technical problems, for the satisfaction of it.

The wally-trolley is loaded and ready to roll for tomorrow and, inspired by the TED talks, I've stuck a wee note on the mailbox outside asking postie to please not deliver any leaflets etc.

I don't know whether the t & cs of his employment allow him not to deliver what companies have paid to be delivered, but it's worth a try. Most of them are fast food flyers (don't eat takeaways), invitatons to get the flat valued (I rent) or solicitations for home improvements (see about renting, plus they're often generic and have no relevance to flat-dwellers such as conservatories etc).

Save me walking them around to the recycling bin compound.

He probably does have to. I sometimes bump into my postie as I’m putting out the recycling bins and he grins as I dump most of it straight in
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

In the Netherlands you can get a sticker for your letterbox: 'no unaddressed leaflets, please', and it comes with two additional options: 'yes, I'll accept the free local paper(s) / no, please don't give me the free local paper(s)'. Is there anything similar in the UK?

  • you can get stickers here saying 'no junk mail' or similar .... I no longer get a free local paper here, haven't seen one for years! However I think a lot of the people delivering leaflets etc will probably ignore the sticker. I just pick it up and put it straight in the recycling bin. If it's addressed to 'Householder' or similar I don't even bother opening it!

I don't mind this stuff that much as that's what's paying for the postman. I've talked to them about it before, and in a competitive market the post office is struggling. They only deliver it when they have addressed mail to deliver as well.

Really annoying that when it’s addressed to “the householder” you can’t tell them to take your details off their database which is how I have stopped a lot of random junk mail

  • My husband sorted out his vinyl collection and suddenly the house seems more cluttered as the records were stored in boxes before.

I got sent two free calendars that I don't need so I will look around my other stuff to go into a bag for the CS with them.:) I'm going to go through my wardrobe as the season has changed too.
