    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 54

A teeny weeny spend today at Holland And Barrett of 67p for a RTC jar of Jim Jam spread for my future SIL whose name happens to be James and is often called Jim Jam and he likes the spread. How good is that? :j

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 55

It doesn't feel like 55 days since my son was married but here we are setting off back up to Yorkshire for the Christening of my GD2 at the same church where my son was married :D

We decided to set off early and have a slow run up to Exeter to pick up my daughter from Uni who was finishing at 5.30pm

Our first port of call was Bookers where we bought a humungous pot of clotted cream for DS and DIL. We also picked up the following on RTC, bread, coronation chicken sandwich filler and Lurpak - very handy indeed!

From Bookers we carried on up to Truro where we picked up some speciality Cornish items for my Alfie Boe friend who lives in NYC and whom we are going to meet when we are over there (I'm making her a hamper of English and Cornish goodies for Christmas :xmassmile

A free coffee was also had by my husband at Waitrose.

Our journey continued to St Austell and a stop off at Nile's Bakery for yummy cakes and Cornish pasties for lunch. We also picked up some frozen pasties for my son and his family.

Whilst in St Austell we called into one of our favourite charity shops / clearance warehouse and bought quite a bit for ebay resale as well as a new shopping jute bag and lunch bag to take to NYC

Onwards to Tavistock where we had a wonderful wander around the shops, charity and artisan where I bought some home made humous and some sweet paprika.

Our final stop was at Exeter whereby we collected DD2 before our long journey North.

A very enjoyable day, quite expensive but well worth it :D

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 56

We were oh so tired from our long journey that we stayed indoors until we met up with our DD1 and her fiance for lunch to chat about the NYC trip.

They insisted on paying which was REALLY sweet of them :smileyhea

We had a great time before setting off to Morrison's for the scones and jam (we had bought the cream up from Cornwall) and whilst we were there we also picked up a RTC folder / paper pack for DD2

The rest of the day was spent with my lovely son and his family as well as my Mum who had travelled up from London for the weekend. Tea was Chinese which was a rare treat as we have completely cut out takeaways whilst our fast has been on. My lovely Mum treated us all which was awesome

Unbelievably I was sound asleep by 9pm, we were just exhausted ZZZzzz

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 57

Today was the day for our GD2's Christening and it was a lovely family day - SO special.

The day went oh so quickly and before we knew it we were back on the road heading home.

    and a NSD :D

    P.S.

As many of my friends live up in Yorkshire, we were able to give out early Christmas presents of the Cava - it felt SO good to give a nice present for not a lot of money - Cheers!

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 58

A work day which often produces a NSD but not today as I picked up a pair of jeans for my DH for our trip to NYC. Of course, I try very hard not to pay full price and of course I didn't - I was able to use a MOC as well as using a triple Nectar point coupon and receiving 8p off a litre of fuel. Result

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 59

We had planned to visit Truro for over a week but when I woke up today, I was still really tired from the long journey home and wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do.

Anyhow, after a bit of a snooze, I decided yes, let's go! With the weather being SO glorious, it would have been a shame not to. Boy was that the right decision! It was a magical day that we didn't forsee :D

Our visit included several charity shops where we picked up items for resale before we popped into Truro Cathedral to look at their shop and sit quietly in the Cathedral to pray.

Over the tannoy came a message that there was a free tour of the cathedral and despite visiting the cathedral many, many times, we decided to go on it. How pleased we did!

How many times do you go on tours whilst on holiday but not to places on your own doorstop? The tour lasted just under an hour and it was absolutely fascinating, so rich in history.

Following the tour, we carried on shopping and finished off at Wetherspoons for hot drinks.

Our journey home, in gorgeous sunshine, was on the top deck of our wonderful buses (very luxurious, with free wifi and charging points - think 1st class on the train and this is what our buses called 'Tinners' are like)

Taking everything into account, we didn't actually spend that much today as the bulk of it was spent on items for resale on ebay :D

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 60

The weather today was glorious and Rosudgeon Car Boot Sale was on today but (shock, horror, ) we didn't go!

Why, I hear you ask? We had had such a good day yesterday and with us flying out to the States in two weeks today, we felt we needed a day at home to sort things out and that is exactly what we did! In fact, we have done the majority of our packing - yay

I was sitting here smug thinking, yes, another NSD and then I remembered that I had booked a lobby tour of the Woolworth Building in Lower Manhatten, this morning.

It looks wonderful - what do you think?

It's becoming very real now and I am sure that the excitement will only increase :D:D:D

  • You are doing so well, very impressed with your frugal shopping (and I'm very envious of your buses). You're so right, we never go and see what's on our doorstep. I live a 20-minute Tube ride from Central London, but hardly ever go there.

You're going to have a fab time in New York!

Are you North, South, East or West of the City, PWD?

I used to live in E4 :rotfl:
