Hi I am on my holidays, and we had a great day here on the IoW, weather was a bit misty this morning, but my DGS Henry and Mikey took the dogs for a walk down the field,I had a left over apple in my bag from Fridays picnic, so the pony in the field enjoyed that, and we came home with some nice blackberries free in exchange :)

After lunch we went to Appley beach where the dogs can have a good run (which they did ) and having exhausted them we came home and my son-in-law cooked a very nice roast chicken with all the trimmings, vanilla ice cream and fresh blackberries for pudding went down a treat :)

Tomorrow its a bike ride in the morning for the boys, and a nice walk for the older folk and the dogs along the old railway track between Yarmouth and Freshwater, more blackberries with luck.

In the afternoon we shall probably go crabbing at Colwell Bay and if its warm enough the boys will swim.Tomorrow night's dinner is left over chicken and sausages with some pasta I think.

Tuesday we have my son-in-laws Mum and Step -Dad visiting so it will be a BBQ, they are travelling from Wincanton in Somerset and will come over on the Lymington ferry and I'll pick them up from there as they are only coming for the day.

Wednesday DD and two DGS are going sea fishing. I will have a rest and put my feet up in the garden with my son-in-law :)

Thursday I have my DGD, her OH, and DGGD coming for the weekend They are bringing my DDs son Jack, he had to stay behind last Friday as he had some extra shifts to cover at work.

So it will be a full house this weekend :):):)

It sounds like you are having an awesome time JackieO - it is so special to spend holidays with family although I must admit to liking my own space too at times.

I hope the weekend is brilliant for you xxx

It all sounds lovely TM6 and well done on getting back into NSD. I'm on holiday with friends in Norfolk, we are having fun but they are not on a tight budget and my eyes are popping a bit at the amounts spent (there are four teenagers in the party). I'm getting free accommodation, although I have offered to pay, so I'll pick up the Te$co bill - I have budgeted for this, so while if it were up to me it would be rather less, I'm fine with it.

We are taking it in turns to do a meal - the other two adults both opted to buy a meal at the pub for their turn. I'm going to demonstrate that you can cook a delicious meal for seven people for under fifteen quid! (It's my holiday so I've bought ready-grated Parmesan, don't judge me. I know it could be even cheaper). Not a fiscal fast, and it is quite a revelation to see what others buy.

It was lovely PWD but looking after the Grandchildren at night was exhausting as we are used to our sleep and both hubby and I can be grumpy and tetchy without uninterrupted sleep.

I hope you're having a super time in Norfolk - not a part of the world that we have visited that much.

I always feel a bit anxious when I am with friends who are not watching their budget. It is often that I can afford 'whatever' but that I have a savings goal and don't want to spoil it.

We have dear friends coming down for 2 weeks tomorrow and I have sent a text saying that I would love to spend time with them going out and about but that we will not be eating out with them this year due to NYC. Hopefully they will understand :D

What parts of Norfolk have you been visiting PWD? I hope you have a wonderful time and that the weather is kind to you xxx

  • I've been staying on the Norfolk coast, near Sheringham. Today was a cheap day - £2 for the car park for a woodland walk. It hasn't been a very expensive trip overall and there have been lots of lovely walks to the beach for free. Also as the children in the party are teenagers there hasn't been quite so much hankering after gift-shops and ice creams as in earlier years. However I'm gobsmacked at how much everything costs for entry - and the two 17 yr olds are 'adult' prices. We've had a lovely time but there's no place like home - I'm looking forward to getting back tomorrow.

    PS Happy Birthday!

I love woodland walks - I feel really at peace amongst the trees and nature.

Thanks for my birthday wishes - I had a quiet but lovely time xxx

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 12

Another birthday as today it is my DD3 birthday - sweet 16.

My youngest -where has the time flown to?

Another quiet day, I think we are all tired still from alll the excitement of DS1 wedding and the travelling.

Today's expenditure was a few pounds spent at the amusements and a Dominoes pizza for my daughter's birthday tea xxx

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 13

A work day today so I am usually guaranteed to have either a LSD or a NSD and today was....

A LSD  Just the princely sum of £2.72 on RTC Udon noodles and a cook in sauce (9 times out of 10 we cook from scratch but we just LOVE this white wine sauce - I have it for over 45 years now since I was a child)

Have you all returned from your holidays now?

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 14

We were up and out early today as my DD2 had to sit her Professional Skills Tests in Maths and English before she heads off to Uni.

We set off on the train - we were on the 08.28 train from Penzance and people watching was fascinating!
Talk about passenger Tetris as folk tried to find their reserved seats whilst others were having to move because they were sat in the wrong seats
Cue the Benny Hill theme tune music! :rotfl:
Cornwall residents call this the silly season and I had only thought of it on the roads but now I realise that it is on the trains as well :rotfl:

Once in Plymouth we had a lovely family day being together as much as possible but also having time to do our own thing :D

We must have visited about 9 charity shops and picked up 1 item for re-sale which is now listed.

Lunch for hubby and I was at a thai street food venue in Plymouth Market - really good food at an amazing price.

As you know I love stationery and I picked up a set of 4 notebooks from Paperchase but.....they were free ....because it was my birthday and I had a loyalty card, I could have £5 off anything and I chose these.

Despite the temptation of many, many shops, I stayed out of them all, I was very pleased with myself.

The most important thing of all....my daughter passed both tests...I am SO proud of her xxx

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 15

This morning we had a lovely catch up with two sets of friends who are camping down here. With it raining so much we were all in my friend's awning but it was cosy and as warm as toast!

The rest of the day was spent quietly, catching up on paperwork and listing on ebay. There was not a shop in sight so...

    drum roll...

    A NSD!

    Fiscal Fast - Part 2 - Day 16

Even though today was Bank Holiday Monday, I decided to work anyway as a) it upsets the routine of the lady I work for if I change to a different day and b) chatting with our friends we decided that Tuesday was the best day to go to the Eden Project.

With a picnic planned for the Eden Project, I bought an Olive Pot from the salad bar, President butter (delish!) Cornish Brie, chorizo and houmous - a grand total of £11.68 was spent but that will last at least 3 meals.

    I'm happy with that :D
