Today was deffo not a NSD £90 for new tyres on the car:eek: and £52 in Aldi, but we have to eat!!:T:T

How many tyres did you get for that.

Our tyres cost about £80 each (double shock!:eek: )

Today will not be a NSD, it library day and I have to pay £2 for books we ordered on the mobile van which comes to the village every month.

My fiscal fast is so that we can build up a emergency fund. For the past few years we lived in privately rented houses, in 2015 I decided that we should apply for supported housing from the council. We had to borrow money to fund a move in 2014 when we were forced to move 3 months after a previous move. Now that has been paid off I want to build up a fund 'in case'.

I have several accounts with our bank. One for our current account and then savings accounts for things like car and house insurance, car repairs......OH has a savings account for his spending money as do I and we have an ISA account we are saving in. All our bill payments are made by direct debit, so I know that all our bills are being paid.

I have a budget for pocket money £45 per month each. Housekeeping £120 a month.

I had 4 children and worked full time for their teenage years. I do a menu plan each month as I did then and also freezer audit. I used to shop once a month, but I can longer cope with that so instead I shop every other week, it works well. At the end of the month any money left in my housekeeping budget goes into my savings tin which pays for treats when we are on holiday. I put around £1500 away each year for holidays, we usually manage to have 2.

My big problem is spending on the garden.........I cannot pass a plant without it jumping into my basket.........OH grows most of our veg and fruit in the summer and I do try to freeze stuff against the use in winter, but I do also give stuff away. It works both ways, we get apples in the autumn.

I had better shut up this has evolved into a screed.

You've got a good system going there Deleted_User with your budgeting :T

As you know my weakness is stationery and I too like you find items jumping into my basket, begging me to take them home and cherish them which of course I naturally do :rotfl:

    What are other Fasters weaknesses?

Hi chums back from my holiday and bought a couple of items of food home but also dropped into Aldi's to restock what I needed with fresh stuff and was pleased it only came to about £17 odd so no more shopping now for at least a week as I have lots of hoilday washing to do and a fair bit of stuff to use up in the freezer as well.

Treated myself to a masive bag of left over balls of wool from a CS whilst on holiday that someone had donated and it only cost a fiver and there is enough wool in there for lots of Xmas gift to make throughout the summer, plus lots leftover for my charity blankets, very pleased with the haul, all different colours and all double knit and at the bottom of the big bag was a cloth bag full of wooden knitting needles.Must have been about 25 plus balls of wool that had never been used :):):) a real bargain for a keen knitter like myself

Wow, that week flew but it is good to have you back JackieO - you were missed especially to keep us on then straight and narrow (me with my stationery and Deleted_User with her plants :rotfl: )

Do you have a weakness JackieO?

That CS bargain was fab, well done you :T

    Fiscal Fast Day 145

You would think that being on this fast would mean that my number of NSDs would increase but actually I think it is the opposite :o

    I had better explain!
There are quite a few different factors that have changed our shopping habits since the start of this fast

    1. Keeping an inventory and only buying items when we are very low on stock - we are shopping more often now!

    2. Changing how we shop - we now go to a multitude of shops as we have a record of which of our main items is cheapest where

    3. Changing from shopping at a main supermarket to a wholesalers

and finally a new change that we brought in yesterday

    4. Shopping at a local weigh shop where we can choose EXACTLY how much we buy.

WOW what an eye opener this one has been. We went round selecting absolutely everything we needed, in the quantities that we needed and the bill was under £6 :D
Our haul included brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, caster sugar etc etc

How often do we buy larger packets of food stuffs than we really need and then the packets sit in the cupboards for ages unused (not in your case JackieO :rotfl: ) Well, no more. Another way of ONLY buying what we NEED. Best of all we are supporting a local independent shop

So our fast day consisted of visiting a small local car boot sale (nothing purchased) Sainsbury's (no up and down - we only bought what was on the list) B&M (only what was on the list) a couple of charity shops (1 item bought for re-sale) and the weigh house.

We had chips at the car boot sale which we will now budget in for a once a month ish treat as they are lush!

What I am REALLY excited about is that this fast is a lifestyle change. Once we have celebrated 2 of our children's weddings there will be NO going back to our old ways. This new culture is ingrained into us all now (yes even including my hubby!) and we are definitely reaping the benefits financially.

Wishing you all a fun filled, sunshine plenty weekend

Yesterday was a no spend day, I have to put fuel in the car at some point, but it means driving into town. We live out in the sticks. Our choice so I have to put up and shut up.

Tomorrow we are going to an open gardens day in a localish village, the fee for that will come out of our own spending money as will any plants I do or do not buy.

The £90 was for 2 tyres, we only have a little Skoda Fabia, it is 10 years old and is still going like a rocket. It has its MOT this month fingers crossed it gets through, its a diesel, so new hoops to go through. Once it goes thats it. I am hoping it manages to stay on the road for another 5 years. I will be 80 then and will stop driving. That is when life will become more interesting!!

    Fiscal Fast Day 146

A middle of the road spending day! :j

We are gearing up for a car boot sale where we sell rather than buy and I saw on Facebook that someone was selling GIANT seed trays for a £1 each. Our thoughts are that we will put all our items into the trays at home (beautifully laid out of course) and then just lift the trays out and put them straight out onto the table.

We did a small shop in The Range and we also picked up some bits for a BBQ in Morrison's (burger buns, yogurt and a loaf)

Not TOO bad me thinks :D

Not only do we live in a beautiful part of the country but we have some stunning architecture down here.

Well I love lidos and we have one of the most beautiful in Penzance - Jubilee Pool.

    Have a look here - https://www.jubileepool.co.uk/

My only spend yesterday was the £4 entrance fee to this awesome pool where I spent a very relaxing few hours :D

I suppose what I like doing best is browsing CS and keeping a keen eye on whats available, and what I can put to good use My special treats from myself to myself is without a doubt good perfume. I love the smell of decent perfume and will do without, and save up just to get the one I want, then treat itlike gold dust :)

I never buy on impulse if I can help it but being a knitter I do watch out for wool bargains as I knit for two charities plus I make a lot of gifts for presents.

I used to be a book hoarder but now am slowly working my way through my large stash of books indoors and boxing them up as they are read to go to the CS (where most of them came from ) I do use the library a lot more than I did but I am a bit over stocked with books at the moment ;)

As I shall be moving house in about two years time I am slowly decluttering lots of stuff to save me packing it all up.I am becoming quite ruthless with bits and pieces and ornaments that need dusting are slowly getting taken to the CS.Its just clutter thats not needed I think.

My last treat of perfume was two small bottles of Jo Malone which are gorgeous but because they were expensive are used sparingly.MY DD tends to give me stuff she no longer uses which is helpful for everyday use and I keep my 'posh stuff' for special occasions.

I think no matter how frugal we are we all deserve a little treat to make us feel good and splashing a little bit of 'Happy Cash' on something that only you will appreciate and love, isn't wasting money, its called enjoying life :):):)
