Cooking for one (Mark Three)

Having decided to switch from mini cheesecakes to egg custard tarts, I've gone off the 4ldi ones as they weren't really hitting the spot. The top sprinkly stuff wasn't strong enough and the custard bit was a little too thick. I need to see if L1dl do them and try theirs.
This morning I went for salad cream, but ended up buying other stuff....
In thinking about replacing cheesecakes, this morning I spotted 3-packs of salted caramel trifles in L1dl, so bought a pack (99p). Meh - they're OK, not overly tasty though, but a nice change. Would buy again, not going to make them a regular 'must have' though.
I also bought: fizzy pop, jelly babies, choc covered raisins, sausage rolls, frozen chips and a loaf of bread.
Breakfast: 1 caramel trifle + choc raisins + jelly babies.
Lunch: 2 hot sausage rolls + choc raisins + jelly babies.
Not sure what I'll have later.
I've still got 1/4 of a cucumber and a boiled egg in the fridge that need to get turned into sandwiches, or rolls....
EDIT: Well, it's later now. I've got two bread rolls still to use up, so I used that boiled egg and half the cucumber to make one cucumber/egg roll. I then made up the second roll with cheese and pickle. The pickle is a jar I bought 2 years ago at least and is one of the things that I need to clear out should a move ever occur (no sign of anything, so not hopeful).
I didn't fancy eating them yet - and I prefer filled rolls to sit and mature (aka fester) a bit, so I wrapped them in foil and popped them in the fridge for now. I'll no doubt have them in a bit.
Evening Meal: 2 jelly babies.0 -
Good evening everyone,
Farway - will I lob some brambles your way, might be a quite squished but definitely not mouldy.:rotfl:
PN - except in very dark chocolate or used very, very sparingingly, despite my salty food preference I'm not a fan of salted carmel. It seems to get everywhere these days so a lot of folk must like it but I'd rather have the normal carmel. A few years ago my sister was given a bottle of a salted carmel Baileys-type drink which neither of us could stomach. What a waste of good booze as I'm sure it was expensive but it was poured down the sink!
It turned into a wild and windy afternoon, looking out of the window it's hard to believe it was August and not November. It's not that warm either and I debated setting the stove to light this evening. I decided that was probably a step too far but I've a thick cardi and socks on! Thankfully it looks as though it will be warmer if not drier tomorrow and then quite decent for a bit so.
I talked myself out of ironing by tidying out the "tin" shelf in my larder cupboard as I knew it was a while since I had checked dates and my inventory. It's all clean and tidy now and only one OOD item that also wasn't on my list, randomly a tin of artichoke hearts that I'm sure I didn't buy so must have been added by one of the kids for some reason! I'm sure it will be fine as the tin is intact and as I'm making naan pizza tomorrow I'll open it and use some of them on that. I usually buy the jars in oil but I love artichokes so will use the rest up easily over the next few days.:D
Beans & brambles have been prepped and frozen and dinner just needs bunging in the oven:). After I've emptied the dishwasher I fancy slobbing out in front of the TV, hope I can find something I fancy to watch. without too much channel surfing:).0 -

Then, somebody served me something salted caramel, maybe ice cream - and I realised I liked the product and couldn't taste any salt.
I only bought these trifles today because I didn't expect to get any salty taste. It was really "just caramel" in my eyes - and not very caramelly tasting ...0 -

I do use salt but very little so like you a tub lasts for ages, but some things do IMHO need it for my taste but a little goes a long, long way.0 -

I find things like rice and potatoes need to be cooked in salted water, I tend to cook with salt but rarely add at the table unless it's sliced tomatoes. Talking of which my tomatoes this year don't have the taste they usually do, I suppose it could be my lack of taste/ appetite at the moment but even with a sprinkle of salt I was disappointed
This cough is being a b****r to shake so no cooking at the moment I'm back at work and it has been work and sleep the last couple of days I'll be glad of my two weeks off. On the plus side not eating has meant I've lost nearly a half stone in the last couple of weeksmy sister tells me I should be thanking her for the germs  I've told her my asthma means I have it worst then she did
Food today was fruit for lunch (breakfast not eaten) and cheese, crackers and tomatoes for dinner. It's my nephews' birthday tomorrow and a mutual friend is cooking dinner tomorrow night so I'm hope someone else's roast chicken (as requested) will kick start my appetiteLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
I had tofu scramble on toast.
I'm having pizza later so I will have something light for lunch, maybe carrot soup.0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
I hope the pesky cough settles Brambling, mine is clinging too though the rest of my cold symptoms are much better:).
Pizza here tonight too Wednesday, like you I'm keeping lunch light - LO tandoori chicken shredded through a bowl of salad.
Today's weather is a rinse and repeat of yesterday, I just hope this afternoon isn't quite as wild. While it was dry I popped to the post box and picked up some milk at the local shop as I'm running low but don't need a grocery order until the beginning of next week. Once I got back I did the bin run, watered the greenhouse, picked more beans (mainly runners), toms and a cucumber. It started to drizzle just as I got back inside.
Adminy stuff for me this afternoon and I really should tackle some ironing. I've had a email from one of the online butchers I use with a 50% discount code for orders placed before the end of the month. I was going to wait a few weeks before my next meat order but I'm not missing that saving. :money:Will need to put my "winter cooking" hat on though:).0 -
I'm sitting waiting for some man to come and do smart meters this afternoon. I didn't ask for it, always resisted it, but then one came door knocking door to door and presented it as a "we're coming, unless you really refuse" thing, so I just let it slide (I wasn't sure at the time I'd even be here, so didn't see it as my problem at the time).
Anyway ... he's due in the next 3 hours.
Breakfast: 2 bits of toast, baked beans, scrambled eggs.
Lunch: Caramel Trifle, few jelly babies.
Probably sausage rolls later, who knows.0 -

It's summer down here Caron, hot sun, bit breezy:p
Must be on line butcher sale time, I had one as well, 35% discounts next week, just hope there's something I want this time round, this is the one that had run out of grass fed beef, free range pork etc last time I looked
Into town after porridge breakfast
YS low fat mince in Iceland, just what I hoped for as I fancied knocking up some HM burgers tonight, bought YS rolls to go with
Asd* it was YS singleton beef pie, the one I like, grabbed that, plus pack of Brexit beans:D
Feel into temptation in W8rose, YS cheese board, mixed posh cheeses but being a BH, hot & sunny ahead I think HM Ploughman's could be a choice one day over the weekend, I've got everything else required in stock anyway
Met up with friend, tea & toast, toast was not my choice,it was ordered & appeared, however that filled me up in lieu of lunch
Thus my planned meals have slipped, the LO bangers for lunch will now become dinner, the lean mince for burgers will go in the freezer [today is use by date]
I could've made a savoury mince thing but with the hot weather forecast I just don't fancy mince thing & dumplings hanging around over the weekend
Hoping this sun dries out the blackberries, if so I'll have a pick tomorrow, there's some at my volunteer place, plus near my garage, hopefully enough to chuck in with the apples anywayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Typical ... I buy a fresh bag of frozen chips. A whole 1.5Kg. Before I'd finished the previous bag .... and the phone rings.
I might be moving. It might be in under 3 weeks.0
