Hi everyone, I don't know why but my cholesterol is pretty low at 3.2. I don't eat any particular type of diet. I do try to make sure it is fairly well balanced and I do like veg so eat quite a lot but I also have cakes/puddings and cheese. I must just be lucky I guess.

    Food:

Today I had a change from porridge and had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast.

Lunch was a tuna mayo sandwich.

Dinner is going to be a lamb steak with some steamed veg and roast potatoes. I think I may have some Yorkshire puddings in the freezer, so I'll have one of those as well.

Unusually for me, and for us CFOs I don't seem to have anything needing using up at the moment.

I shall need to go out for some veg tomorrow and need to get a few other bits as I want to do some baking.

Waitrose have got lemons on offer at half price at the moment, and I want to get some to make a lemon drizzle cake.

    Good afternoon everyone,
I managed a short walk before the weather closed back in but my was my face numb when I got home, I was very glad to have the LO stew to tuck into for lunch. Just as well there wasn't another spare portion lurking as I could easily have been a greedy guts and scoffed the lot ;)
This afternoon has been taken up sorting out an admin-type task that I've been ignoring since before Christmas so good to get that out of the way:). Shopping arrived a wee while ago and has put away so I'm now re-stocked on the essentials if the weather is dire for a few days:).
Farway - Glad it's not the flu but not so good about the x-ray.

Fortunately (so far) my cholesteral has behaved itself so fingers crossed it stays that way:)

The lentil spread and crackers was surprisingly tasty and filling. I felt full so I didn't even make the HM soup yet.

Yes, I have heard bad things too about statins. My GP said today (when I questioned him about his high cholesterol:o) that he has tried statins himself and he gets muscle aches from them. I have fibro so I don't want to risk getting more aches and pains! I said no to them straight away and he seemed fine with that. I suppose doctors have to recommend statins even if they know they have such side effects.

We can both see if we can manage to lower our cholesterol. :)I know porridge is meant to be great for cholesterol, but I just don't like it. I think I might buy some and then put a scoop in a smoothie each day so I don't notice it, but hopefully still have the health benefits.

I quite like porridge with banana or blueberries on top. Also came across overnight oats soaked in Apple juice and then log a few blueberries on top.

Unless some amazing item spotted in Lild tomorrow the HM soup is in the frame

I'm afraid I'm [STRIKE]fairly[/STRIKE] very traditional when it comes to porridge as I only really like as is. Made with a pinch of salt and mix of water/milk, with a little milk to top it once cooked is my favourite way. I'm really not keen on it sweetened in any way or with fruit added. I love semolina (and tapioca) pudding though, made nice and milky and sweet. :) Quinoa I'm not that fussed about, it's ok but I wouldn't keep a packet in the cupboard.;)

Farway - defintely soup weather here to pop some my way once you've made it thanks :D

The red cabbage mix is gently simmering and smells great. It's a really simple recipe of shredded red cabbage, chopped onion and cooking apple, a splosh of vinegar, a little sugar, a knob of butter and some salt/pepper. I usually pop a fair bit of other stuff in red cabbage dishes so will be interesting to compare at the end- I'm hoping the old KISS manta applies here as the sausage should add quite a bit of flavour. With it I'm for mustard (recommended in the book) and some cubes of sort of fondantish spuds. (I'll make enough of these to have on Weds with my chop:))

    Hello CFO's

After a cheeky haul from ys stuff, managed a chicken stir fry tonight. (Stir-fry had 2 different cabbage leaves, onion, carrot, red pepper, broccoli, beansprouts), and last of the melon/grape pot with a couple of the last ys plums thrown in. Now feeling stodged but in a healthy way.

I tend to do porridge every breakfast as my family have inherited high chloresterol levels in the blood genetically. Some of them are right skinny too, and we have all had our levels checked. One of my parents is on statins, as well as a lot of other things.....

We are all fixated on porridge for breakfast, and, if we are really feeling decadent, boiled egg or poached egg on toast. That's a rare treat though.

I'm back with a question re mince...please if I may...

I C'dFO a bolognese the other day but didn't eat it so froze it in portions (I may not have eaten it, but it's a start; at least I cooked and I bulked it out with lots of veg :D).

Now you can buy SM frozen meals (lasagne for eg) bung it in the microwave and 10 mins later, after a rest, it's done.

So can my bolognese be cooked the same way? I put it on to defrost but 10 mins later it was still frozen!

Can I not just zap it for 10 mins or so at full power?

I want to eat some proper food so I'm striking whilst the iron is hot iyswim :o

    Thanks in advance :)

Quick answer - absolutely:D. Nuke for 3-4 minutes, stir, repeat for 2-3 minutes stirring after each until it is all piping hot. (How long will depend on portion size /microwave power - just remember to stir so the edges don't catch;))
