  • A Slimming World version of aubergine and tomato bake lined-up for dinner today - that particular recipe "new to me".

Must cook up some extra rice - when I do the rice to accompany it - and stash in freezer. Caron - I tried your tip re how to reheat rice without a microwave the other day with some and that worked okay (ie defrost and then 5 minutes steamed in a sieve over a pan).

I shall have to remember that one - as one "Syn free" thing I can have as a stomach-filler whilst on this diet is a bowl of rice/fat-free yogurt/loads of fruit.

Should have thought of that before I was off quaffing wine with a friend yesterday - when I thought it would be coffee - ahem. I stuck to just one small glass too - but it still set off an attack of The Munchies and that was more food eaten than I'd planned on/should have really been hungry for.

At least I now know for sure that wine will set off The Munchies - apart from champagne for some strange reason:rotfl: Do I need an excuse to drink champagne when I get the chance?:rotfl:

Very conscious of this - now I've gone virtually teetotal (a "nice" meal out or a monthly social thing that also includes selection of "quality" wines with it is about the only time I have any booze these days).

So now I know about those Munchies - I shall plan in future for any "occasions with booze" I go to in this area and have some cooked rice to hand and defrosted and that should stop me having anything more calorific.
  • Cup of Beanie's coffee with sugar and almond milk so far today. I might have toast and marmite before I go out.

I have to use up the rest of the black beans and I am going to cook up the rest of the veggies that I have before I get more shopping. I have peppers, onions, mushrooms, broc and carrots. Phew!

I think I might grill the mushrooms and have them with pesto.

Yay, my Iceland shopping arrived on time and is all there without substitutions. Stowed away in the new freezer, with a bit of space left for my Thursday farm meat run

I may have overdosed on frozen roasties order:o
I'll eat them but it was to get into the free delivery zone.
Online grocery shopping is a bit new to me, did it years ago for heavy stuff, when I only had a bike, t'internet shopping was new & there was only dial up & Tesco doing it. Stone age stuff in today's world

    Breakfast usual porridge

Not sure about lunch, my loaf had a green tinge around the edges:eek: so the planned egg sandwich may not happen, luckily I've got a few packs of PB baguettes handy so one of them with maybe cheese & salady filling?

Dinner, def some of my YS LO chicken, and now I've got stuffing delivered could be some of that, bake the spud in same oven as stuffing & more salad, sounds like a cunning plan

I recently ordered from Iceland as I read that they have decided to cater to people like me (vegans ) and I was pleasantly surprised at how upmarket they seem now. All the frozen food I bought was of a very good standard.:)

Well ... you could've simply cooked up a tray of roasties and lounged back with a dip to dip them into :)

... I was pleasantly surprised at how upmarket they seem now....

Gentrification of what used to be the "poor people's food places" has restricted access for the poor to variety.

It's happened with Lidl and Aldi too - all chasing the middle classes and, from a poor person's perspective, you see a cheap frozen meal at 75p replaced by a prosecco laced and avocado based gentrified item at £1.75.

Good for the middle classes, not so good for their original target market.

For me, Iceland's always been on my list of "wish I could shop there" shops ... but I've rarely lived near one, or it's been inconvenient to do so. I'd have to make a special trip there and straight back with the frozen goods... or make it (and remember/bother) the last call of a round robin. Yes, you can get it delivered to your home if you spend more than £25, but singles could rarely achieve that value of purchases... I'd be more likely to be in there and walking out with £5-8s worth if I made a special effort. Could push it to £15 if I was completely out of food and really really really wanted to stock up from there. But £25... never. I did buy/eat one of their £1 bags of frozen fish cakes once... a nice cheap little morsel they were, I'd buy those again. 10-12 in a bag from memory.
  • :O I weighed myself this morning & I've put more weight on than I'd have liked. Looks like all the takeaways & meals out have caught up with me :( (some of it could be water weight as time of the month is due any day now....)

Downloaded the fitnespal app again to start logging what I'm eating & I'll be walking to work & back again daily now ive ditched the overtime. & I've started weighing myself in KGs instead of stones as it's easier to track & more motivating.

Breakfast has been a red delicious apple. 4 for £1 in my local Indian shop.
I'll have a coffee soon too.

Lunch, not sure. I've defrosted 6 of the frozen Richmond sausages to try & make 2/3 scotch eggs. Expecting a lot of fat will come out of those when they bake. Need to make some breadcrumbs first too. That'll probably be lunch.

Tea will be curry. Tomorrow pack up will be curry & rice & a scotch egg.

Ive spent all morning looking at flight & hostel prices to Europe on my week off next June. Im a bit of a "backpacker" so like to rough it on Ryanair flights & hostel dorms. Tempted to book.
I could, in the past, do a 5 night stay for £350 all but in inflation/Brexit has bitten (& Ryanair's extra charges) & that's looking more like £500 now as the exchange rate is poor.

It is funny as I don't go to Aldi or Lidl hardly at all as I don't drive and they seem less accessible to me. I keep reading on MSE about how good the bargains are there and I know I have been surprised when I've gone in there at how nice the food is. I think Asda seems the cheapest but their delivery service is dire! There are always loads of missing items so I hardly use them.:p

Novice, do you have the Runkeeper app? Logs distance, speed & route taken, using GPS not pedometer, plus calories used for distance covered at x speed.
Not sure how accurate it is But when I could walk distances I found it handy to see how my "performance" was doing

Lunch was the cheese salady baguette option, followed by one of L's not a Penguin

Only need pop spud in to bake, mix up stuffing and that's most of dinner sorted

  • Faraway, i have a Garmin Vivosmart HR watch - which links up to the Fitnesspal app. It probably isn't the best as it counts steps rather than GPS, it's a pretty basic model of fitness tracker but it does all the things i want it to.
It works well with the app as it gives me rough idea of how many calories i've burned and how many i've "got left" in a day.

I am thinking of downloading MapMyWalk if i start going out on long walks in the Peaks again
