I bought some furren biscuits at Home Bargains the other month that were dark chocolate/cherry .... and they were really gorgeous. Can't remember what they were called, but I'm sure I'd recognise them again if I am in HB and they have them for sale again. There were 9 in the packet, I think ... so sold in a "cookie" format rather than a whole lot of biscuits in a packet... and about 89p from memory.0 -
Just had a couple of crumpets (well, they had yesterday's date on them so it was eat them or freeze them - and I already froze two from the last packet!).
And crumpets never get served alone.... so it was out with the two tone chocolate spread
EDIT: I appear to be in scoffathon mode.... I've now eaten one of those six satsumas I bought earlier today0 -
Good evening everyone,
I seem to have "lost" the post I thought I had made this morning!
My hairdresser's prices are pretty standard round here and I'm always happy with my cut. She has been cutting my hair for 20+ years and as far as I'm concerned works miracles with my unruly locks:).
Money - I'm definitely a product of my celtic genes - short, stocky with curly red hair so fairly typical Scots/Irish background.:rotfl::rotfl:I was once told by a "posh" hairdresser in London that I had "peasant hair", I must have looked very put out as he explained that in hair terms that's good thing (apparently!) as it means it is thick and strong:cool:.
bouicca21 - one of my friend always says she wishes she had my hair where I envy her straight, shiny hair. (I don't know I'd want all the extra washing but no clumps or frizz to deal with - believe me "wide hair" is not something I'd wish on anyone if there is the least bit of moisture in the air especially if it has a curl. There's not a product in the land that will stop it morphing into a "pom pom" - fine if you're a poodle or a Shirley Temple lookalike but less attractive on a grown woman.:rotfl::rotfl:
Farway - your hair/beard routine sounds pretty much like my ex-hubby's definitely a case of "wash & go". :rotfl:
It's been a lovely day, cold but bright and sunny a "proper" Autumn day so I've been for a walk round the block and did some minor pottering in the garden. It's to dip to almost freezing tonight and it certainly feels like it this evening.
My Dad came for lunch and we had a steak & onion sandwich which was tasty but not as substantial as it sounds so I'm looking forward to a HM corned beef pasty with beans and mushrooms and a good splosh of HP. I had a small piece of puff pastry LO from making pinwheels at the weekend and an open pack of corned beef in the fridge so it would be a shame not to.I made a load of carmelised red onions this morning as they freeze well and it saves stinking the house out too often:rotfl: (despite open doors and windows I can still smell though so it's scented candle time:cool:) so will add some of those to pasty along with the meat and a spoonful of diced spud I cooked earlier in the microwave mixed with a spoonful of peas. Not a "healthy" dinner by far but just the thing for a cold night.:D

Evening all
All I will say about the price of hair dressers is I live in the South East  and it sounds like the only difference between mine and Caronc hair is the coloura previous hairdresser made a right pigs ear of my hair and I've used my current one for nearly 15 years now, he owns a small salon with a very small team and we put the world to rights when he cuts my hair and when I'm having a colour / highlights I gossip with his boyfriend
Money my family tree obsessed sister tells me I come from a long line of Dorset folk including a Tolpuddle Martyr (as many of us seen to :rotfl:) but seeing as it's a coastal county with a large harbour which would have meant foreign sailors I'm assuming anything's possible in the mix. My hair was very dark with auburn highlights (two red headed grandparents) but I'm very fair skinned, my red headed sister has olive skin tones so who knows. It's seems the one Irish ancestor we had was in the early 19th century, Caronc my 'peasant hair' comes from a long line of Dorset Peasants on my paternal side :rotfl:
Lunch was more of the same soup which is maturing nicely now, I didn't leave work until after 6pm tonight and I had to go back out at 7pm, so just enough time to feed his lordship and change. So late dinner was tandoori chicken, with rice and salad. I marinaded and cooked enough chicken for tomorrow nightLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
..... I come from a long line of Dorset folk including a Tolpuddle Martyr..
Me too ... traceable back to the 1600s, before which records stopped existing, so my lot probably went and watched Stonehenge go up and offered their advice while standing idly to one side avoiding "work"
Re Tolpuddle - I'm not related to my knowledge, although one female with my surname married into one of that lot .... it wasn't immediately obvious to me who she was. Having the same surname as me guarantees "related" .... but if she appears "from the start of records" it's possible I'd never be able to tie her specifically into the tree.
I'd not expect to be related to the TMs as they were a bit vocal and stood up for stuff... I'm more of the sort that sits in the corner and watches0 -

My dads family would have been the labour building it :rotfl: I tend to switch off when I'm given too much family tree information but I'm told that on my dads' maternal side we come from the youngest daughter of a titled gentlemanunfortunately they were on the wrong side of the civil war and went from owning the land to working the land in three generations, so it's been a while since there was any money :rotfl: but it did mean she could piggyback their family tree and go back quite a bit further on that side.

There's probably "always one" in any family - re "vocal and stood up for stuff" and my mother has absolutely no grounds to talk any time she wishes she'd got a more compliant daughter:rotfl: The relative that was putting themselves in line to stand as an MP (Labour Party) variety and seems to have been doing it from a principled standpoint afaik was her side of the family - fondly, or otherwise, referred to as "the Black Sheep of the family".
Anything of any note much - genes wise/otherwise is there on her side of the family:rotfl:
My fathers side afaik are just plain solid English/yer working class "salt of earth" type.
I may have fine hair - but my mother could have passed on her rather "fine" features to me:(. I'd like more "delicate" features:(. When I'm slim - then I do have cheekbones (which I definitely like and it's one reason I'm dieting) - but I wouldnt rate as "fine" features generally:( - could be worse, as they're "average" - when I would like to have "fine" ones...but oh well. It is what it is.
I tell myself that apparently "mongrels" are deemed to be the healthiest (eg when it comes to dogs for instance - ie mongrel dogs, compared to pedigrees) and so the same probably applies to humans.
...and, on the dieting front, the willpower wasnt in force today - I've eaten that whole bar of chocolate (despite putting most of it in the freezer), had a noticeable amount of wine and nibbles whilst I was out tonight. Oh well - tomorrow is another day...0 -

My mum would say she married beneath herself, farmers daughter and farm labours son :rotfl: we used to tease her that it was just as well she did so we could inherit his healthier peasant genes :rotfl:
I once read a diet tip for breaking up a bar of a very dark chocolate and putting it in the freezer, the idea being you eat one square at a time and it would last longer and you eat less :rotfl:, so one Sunday afternoon I remembered the chocolate and I got my exercise for the day walking from the sofa to the freezer :rotfl: I only ever did it the once :cool:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Well, got up this morning to an email from the parent of the girl I tutor 3-4 days a week saying, due to a change in circumstances, they can't afford tutoring any more... Which is fair enough, but I shall miss that bit of income!
It's strange though, it's been a tough week with this class from hell (2 days to go!), and as I was driving to tutoring last night I was thinking "am I doing too much?" I was out every single night after work, and perhaps that was too much.
I'm still tutoring Monday and Friday, but now at least I'll have Weds and Thurs night at home if I want. I'm still getting requests to tutor, so I can fill the slots back up again in the future if I want.
Still, grrrrr at my money going down!
Anyway, best get my shoes on and head off to the class from hell again! Can't wait *sarcasmBecause it's fun to have money!

Thanks Farway for the salmon tip. I don't normally go in Iceland so wouldn't of thought of there.
Luckily I had an offer on my loyalty card plus staff discount which meant I got a bag of 5 fillets for just over £7.:j
So tea was salmon with tartare sauce, chips , and cauli, broccoli and carrot. I made extra veg and will have with a gfree breaded chicken fillet tonight.
I forgot to make a sandwich for work today so I'm taking a tin of tomato soup, with 2 slices of toast to dunk. Good idea as it's frosty out this morning.
Dark choc and cherry is my dds favourite, I will look out for the biscuits PN . I've actually not had any choc since the weekend! !!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0
