My mum at 90 announced she no longer wanted to be buried someone else could go in with my dad  but she wasn't sure about cremation either  I told her the only other option was burial at sea, but I thought she had to die on board for that and the Sandbank chain ferry didn't count :rotfl: She was widowed for nearly 30 years I think it's sad that she never had anyone else, my dad had been her first and only boyfriend so I can understand why but I think she would have been a happier person if she had and would probably had a better relationship with us as she could be difficult  I once worked with someone whose FIL remarried 9 months after his MIL died, the second wife died suddenly 6 months later and wedding number 3 followed quickly after that I think there was approx 2 years between first wife funeral and third wedding  it seems he had always been such a quiet man, my colleague started to call him Blue Beard :rotfl:
My Dad has opted to leave his remains to medical science, up here it's a legal process(not sure about elsewhere) that he's done while he's still of "sound mind" (or as much as we ever get to in my family:rotfl:). I'm not sure what happens to the "bits" left afterwards and my Dad is very vague/doesn't care so I'm none the wiser. I could have a "Google" I suppose but it seems a bit morbid:eek:.
It's definitely heading to crumpet weather - something I only seem to hanker after in the colder months.0 -
It's probably just as well she didn't think of medical science Caronc, she did like a visit to the doctors :rotfl: before computerised records we use to say her notes probably took up their own filing cabinet and I mean a 4 drawer one :rotfl:Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0

Thanks Farway. I suppose the fan will give instant heat and that's what's needed, as I'm done and dusted in 10 mins, even when I'm putting makeup on as well if I'm at work!!
My father in law was on his own after his wife died when my hubby was only 10.! He lived into his 80 s .
My own parents died within 18 months of each other even though they had 11 years between their ages.
I can't imagine meeting and caring for anyone else.i certainly don't want the heartache after losing someone you love so much again. So I reckon I'm cooking for one for a few decades yet!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
....the only other option was burial at sea, but I thought she had to die on board for that and the Sandbank chain ferry didn't count ...
https://www.mudefordferry.co.uk/scattering-ashes/ - about £100
If you want a whole burial at sea, they do it off the Isle of Wight.
http://www.burialsatsea.co.uk/ - they also do ashes, but £795.
Speaking as a spinster .... I couldn't ever find the first one, I've no idea how some people manage to find more than that!0 -
I had a short shopping list - basics. Bread, spuds, coffee, onions, basmati... so off I headed.
Came back with "a haul". Managed to leave my bags in the car, so had to buy another at the till (they're good ones in 4ldi at 38p, I love/collect/hoarde them, so another's no hardship).
Half price stickers were on a few things, so I grabbed two packs of chillies (for the freezer), a punnet of mixed mini plum tomatoes, some oven bottom muffins.
Also bought spuds, 1Kg medium onions, coffee and basmati.
Then, in the chiller section, spotted a pack of three corned beef pasties with a half price sticker on (£1.29 down to 65p) so I thought I'd get those and that will be lunch today, tomorrow and maybe Wednesday (don't want to freeze them)... served with mash and beans.
Aldi don't sell packet custard! So I didn't get that, have to get that elsewhere.
I also picked up a Fiery Chilli Ketchup (marked as a new product on the shelf), bit pricey at 65p but handy to knock up a quick hot pizza base.... or splash on chips.
Total spend today was £8.... but there's food for an army.0 -
Dinner today will be a slow cooker bolognaise.
I was doing some freezer diving yesterday, and found a packet of Waitrose mince, dated January, that I'd forgotten about. Got it out to defrost over night, and I'll go and get it going shortly.
It's going to be a later dinner for me tonight than I'm used to. I've got two appointments this afternoon and the last one is 5:30, right when I'm normally eating! So something almost ready for me when I get home will be nice!
You did well in Aldi, PasturesNew!Because it's fun to have money!

I'm a single guy, so this thread is great I have to say. Some great ideas and suggestions on here that I've already used.
Here's one of mine that I use at least once a week. I play football a few times a week and really can't be arsed to try cooking afterwards..... I (and therefore you, because i'm a horrendous cook) do this in about 15 minutes, although actually it's the kind of thing you can do while chucking your football kit in the washing machine and changing into some trackies. Two birds.... two birds....
Microwave a Slimming World Curry Sauce, like this:
https://groceries.iceland.co.uk/slimming-world-free-food-spicy-tikka-masala-sauce-350g/p/60702
While frying some chunks of diced beef with some spices (optional) in a shallow frying pan:
https://www.aldi.co.uk/natures-glen-scotch-diced-beef/p/073250101266000
You could microwave a rice, or if you don't like rice (like me), air fry some chips. You can put the chips on before the beef and sauce if you like them golden brown.
Mix the beef chunks and curry sauce, and you've got the chips as your side. Curry and chips the ultimately lazy as !!!! way. :rotfl: It's actually really good though, don't write it off
Not the most MSE, but convenience sometimes comes at a small price.0 -
