    Good morning everyone,

Hope you find comfy footwear flubberyzing:), I've never had any problems with defrosted sausages though I have heard sausages can go rancid if frozen for too long!
We had some fierce weather overnight and it's still very stormy this morning, I'm very "wonky donkey" so have had a very gentle start to the day. Given the weather making pea & ham soup for lunch was a good decision:D. I'm not sure about tonight either curry or chilli from the freezer I think.

... Perhaps it's me, but I don't think defrosted sausages are very tasty... I've got 2 more frozen ones after these, but then I'm not sure what I'll do. There's just something about them that doesn't work for me. But I'll eat them, because food waste is something I avoid if I possibly can!
Maybe it's psychological; I don't fancy a lot of food once it's been frozen. Maybe cooking them before freezing might work better for you... then they can be nuked on demand as they're already browned :) or making a sausage casserole and freezing it like that.

I'm "funny" about meat of all sorts, in all forms... all psychological for me.

Bit of a lie in, just never woke early today, must be darker mornings I guess

    Breakfast normal porridge, banana etc

Nothing needed in shops, bit dull weather, decided to be a good boy & fill in my tax return. FAIL again. Today's reason is my printer has run out of ink.
I keep track of my spends & income using MS Money, I then print a yearly report to use while I fill the tax form in, no ink = no report.
I've copied it in PDF to memory stick & will use the printer at volunteer place tomorrow to get at least one stage further. Deadline for post is end of October, plenty of procrastination time left:)

Reading meals on here, I now fancy braised steak & onions, or sausages. I've none of them available, never had taste problems with own frozen bangers, except I've not got any now that I fancy some:(

Lunch is going to be last of the ham, with salad bits in a sandwich

Dinner, a bit Marie Antoinette, no sausages or braising steak? Let them eat rump steak
I'll use one of my stache, with yet more salad & maybe chips

Yesterday's YS peppered, smoked mackerel was excellent. There were 3 fillets in the pack, one not enough for a meal, two a bit OTT, which left the usual CFO of one spare on it's use by date

I scoffed, and enjoyed, all three:o

Lunch today was sausages/beans on toast.
    Then 3 choc digestives.

I might go with beans on toast for tea.... CBA to think further than that.

I'm being fed my tea later in the week... but I've no idea what it might be. It might be sausages, or a pie :)
  • Well I had the sausages... And paying a bit more attention to them... The meat inside is nice, it's the skin that tastes funny to me!
Had them with beans and mash, and it was nice in all.
I think for the last 2 sausages frozen in the freezer, I'll de-skin them when I come to use them.

    Good evening everyone,
Rump steak on a Monday Farway - you are living it up :rotfl:

Glad you worked out what you didn't like about the sausages fubberyzing, between your talk of sausages & PN mentioning beans dinner is going to be sausage, beans, mushrooms, tomato and probably a poached egg. A tattie scone might also feature:D.The weather is awful so I'm craving comfort food. I have chipolatas LO from Christmas 2017 :o, so might use some of those. It will give me LO beans but I can either use these up over the next few days or freeze them so don't mind opening a can. The pea & ham soup for lunch was delicious- I had some with a piece of stottie to dip:D. I reckon I've made 5-6 portions so some for lunches and some for the freezer, a good, tasty & cheap tummy-filler:).

My balance is still iffy so apart from giving my bedroom a good tidy & dust I've not done a huge amount. I'm not massively houseproud but do like the place to be clean (enough) & tidy and my bedside table, windowsill & the top of my chest of drawers had become a bit of dumping ground which I hate. Unfortunately, still in clumsy mode I dropped and smashed beyond repair a lovely bowl (a gift that I know was expensive) that I've had for nearly 30 years that sat on the window sill. I was :mad: at myself but not much I can do about it. I suppose on the bright-side (if there is one) it's one less place to gather clutter and dust!
My kids are home this weekend which I'm looking forward to and we are having a get together with the wider family on Sunday so I'm trying to get my "cooking for 8-9" hat on and get a massive grocery order planned & booked . It will no doubt be the usual happy chaos:D:D.

Annoyingly I think I'm going to give in and put the heating on for a bit, I'm in multiple layers & thick socks but the house feels damp & chilly although it's not actually that cold it feels it. I had hoped to put it off for a bit longer but needs must etc. I'm sure an hour on low will make things cosy!

ETA - the reason the house felt so chilly was I still had my bedroom window open :o:o heating going on has been postponed!;):D

How annoying Caronc, why is it we never break the things we don't really care about

My cold is still lurking :( but at least I can hear in my right ear today which is more than I could when I went to bed last night. Feeling a little more human tonight although my wheezing is really annoying me now :p

Lunch was some of the chicken soup I made last night and didn't eat, it's not so good as my usual chicken soup as I didn't have any homemade chicken stock to make it with but it's my comfort food :). Dinner hasn't happen yet as I'm not really hungry I've just eaten a banana and I may fish out the last two crumpets from the freezer if I get peckish before bed

Hope you enjoyed your steak Farway :D

  • Morning!

I'm glad your cold seems on the turn Brambling.
Windy and dull out there today. I've finally moved out of t-shirts and into a light jumper, and feel much more comfortable for it. I wonder if summer might have a last hurrah around my birthday (29th Sept)? It often seems to. So I might not be quite done with t-shirts yet this year! Certainly did well with t-shirt wearing this year, what with that long hot summer!

I few things on my to-do list today, but nothing that should take very long.
My hayfever seems to be playing up this morning. It's been dodgy on and off for a week or more now. There must be an Autumn plant near me giving something off. I'll pop an antihistamine in a minute, and that sorts it fairly quickly. Generally though, my hayfever was the best its been this year, for many years. Despite people saying this was a terrible year for hayfever sufferers!

Dinner for me today with be bacon, eggs and beans. I've been craving bacon and eggs since last week, so it went onto this weeks meal plan and I'm looking forward to it!

    Good morning everyone,

Still wild and windy here though drier so far. I hope to get my front porch cleaned so hope the weather holds for a bit.
More pea & ham soup for lunch but not sure about tonight possibly pasta or something with beans to use up the can I opened yesterday.
    Has any heard from Money?

Another one with cooler & windy day. Still needed to water the plant pots though

Last night's rump steak was delicious. I had it with some chips & salad
It was part of an offer pack from L's. Still on offer this week, but none left in my L's when I mooched round this morning:(. I had intended to bag another pack.

I've found that marinading them for an hour or so before frying / grilling works wonders, something to do with the acids breaking down the fibres

Found a YS pack of diced steak in L's this morning, I've had that before, and this pack looks quite lean, with gloomy / wet weather forecast I had quick change of plans, so bought all the veg bits for a slow cooked beef thingy tomorrow.

Another meal plan change after I dropped my repeat prescription off, found pack of 2 YS pork chops in Costcutter next door.

Lunch was cheese & onion chutney sandwich

With the dull day, YS pork chops plus fresh veg I've decided to go mad and have a roast dinner tonight, I've got everything, I'll roast the chops, spuds & carrots & onion, but boil the cabbage

I've found the hard way that I have to boil "greens" these days or they give me severe tum trouble. I used to steam them so can only assume the boiling water dilutes / neutralises whatever it is, and I only eat a little nowadays, used to love eating heaps of it.
Well I had the sausages... And paying a bit more attention to them... The meat inside is nice, it's the skin that tastes funny to me!
Had them with beans and mash, and it was nice in all.
I think for the last 2 sausages frozen in the freezer, I'll de-skin them when I come to use them.

I wonder if the skins are real animal or "plastic" ones? Maybe makes a difference in smell? I know if I get some with plastic skins they are chewy although these days I tend to go for the more expensive but high meat content ones, which seem to have natural skins
