  • Rain here as well.

Must get my act together and head for the supermarket. Was feeling far too rushed to really take in the food fair yesterday - so have got precisely one mini-pie I bought there and can't remember for the life of me what it was supposed to be.

So - no potatoes in and I'm thinking "green veggies and some potatoes" to go with said pie.

Yesterday was definitely One of Those Days - virtually everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong throughout. There's only one thing that didnt - ie stuck in the middle of nowhere because of car breaking down. But, apart from that, everything else went about as wrong all round as it could do - so today is going to see me buying some wine as well at the supermarket. A mini-bottle with lunch isn't going to "do the trick" - so it'll be a full-size bottle (as they don't stock half-bottles:(). So - willpower needing to be exercised to ensure I don't drink more than half the bottle I actually want - and I know from experience that means I'll have to literally pour the other half down the sink and remove temptation from my path that way.

Unless, of course, wine freezes and I could stick the other half bottle in the freezer - as one can't drink frozen wine? Has anyone tried that? Wondering what sort of container I could put it in to try that...

Money you can freeze red wine and use it for cooking, not sure about white but I won't drink it as it will effect the quality. Can you not hide it outside in the hope of out of sight out of mind for a couple of days, seems a shame to waste it. Although I'm not suggesting you get wasted :rotfl: hopefully it will be a better day for you today :)

Raining here since the early hours and forecast tomorrow as well should hopefully mean a window of opportunity to pull weeds up before the ground hardens again. I've family in Belfast so hoping they're not too badly effected by the flooding there, they had a average month worth yesterday

Undecided over lunch today, maybe a tuna jacket potato rather than salad, I've taken some pork tenderloin out of the freezer I'm thinking pork stroganoff with rice. I've also taken some chicken out to marinade for tandoori chicken for tomorrow lunch. There will be LO pork

I freeze wine all the time but have never tried drinking it afterwards. I use it in cooking and freeze in ice cube trays so I can just use what I need in dishes. I suppose you've nothing to loose by freezing the rest and seeing what's it like once defrosted. I'd decant from the bottle though and freeze in something more the size of the quantity you have spare.

Tuna fishcakes - I really enjoyed mine last night made a nice change.

The rain eased enough for me to rescue the fallen basket, thankfully it hasn't damaged the pot underneath it and fell more or less upright so the plants aren't too battered. However, when it's come away the bracket fixing has sheared a chunk of wood off so I'm not sure if putting the bracket back up will work.

After today the forecast looks better until later in the week though a good bit cooler than it's been. I'm thinking I really should do some meal planning so will have a good rake through the fridge and see what I have that needs using up.

Wild, wet, windy here too. It's been difficult/unsafe to step outside and I regularly hear sounds that must be neighbours' bits and bobs blowing around.

Breakfast today was the last of the sausages, beans, hash browns.

I've still got a cheese/tomato filled roll I made yesterday + an unfilled roll that I could fill with the boiled egg I made, or grated cheese, or tomatoes, or all three.... or open a tin of tuna .... so something will happen based around those options.

I have no problem in drinking a bottle of wine - but over several days! Open a bottle on Sunday, finish it Wednesdayish.

But yes it does freeze, since Money is a veggie/vegan ( can't remember which) I'd suggest using it next time she makes a lentil bolognese.

Thankfully the rain stopped for long enough for me to feed & water the greenhouse plants and pick some runners & broadbeans for dinner & a couple of courgettes that obviously had aspirations to become marrows/pumpkins.:rotfl:That's the last of the broadbeans from batch one now picked so my next dry day job is to get their pot emptied and some more pak choi & salad leaves sown in the hope I get another crop this year. One hopefully I'll get to enjoy before they bolt!

Ah, I was thinking of getting one tomorrow, sounds like a good deal, long time since I roasted a joint, and TBH I'm nearly always disappointed, but I carry on anyway.

When I'm feeling really flush I intend buying some from the posh farm butchers, grass fed pampered cows, and probably named Daisy:D

Lunch was more of the corned beef & tom in a PB baguette

I've used all the LO failed Madeira cake as sponge base for a trifle, with LO redcurrant gloop & LO stewed blackberry & apple, topped with instant custard.
I've run out of jelly so had to omit that ingredient. For "cream" I'll plop some Greek Yoghurt onto each serving

Dinner decided, more [STRIKE]idleness[/STRIKE] forward planning, it's frozen crumb coated cod fillet, frozen oven chips & frozen peas

    Trifle style pud to follow

Rain still going strong, no way I'm going out to rescue my runners

Ahem...well I went to the supermarket and lunch was the baked pie (still havent the foggiest what was actually in it....), sprouted broccoli and baked potato.

Accompanied by 4 glasses of wine:o:o - so that's precisely 2 left...and I'm probably going to regret the 4th glass of wine later...

Didnt help - things arent a lot clearer now than they were to start with.....

Emails flying to and fro trying to deal with "type of situation I've never encountered prior to moving here" and I still havent got the foggiest idea how to deal with it.

Time for 3rd cup of my (blast your mouth off/mega strength) cups of coffee for the day.

Bar anyone knowing next weeks Lottery numbers to win at least £half million - at which point I know exactly what to do - pack 2 suitcases/book a taxi/book a hotel/move back/check out Rightmove for a house to buy. Failing that - gawdalone knows ...as I certainly havent the foggiest. Ohgawd - I can see another email has just popped up....better read it...:(

The Roast beef was excellent, best I`ve had for a long time, so tender and tasty. Hope you get one tomorrow. I did the full roast, potatoes,, carrots, parsnip, Yorkshires and had mashed potato , steamed cabbage, broccoli and the first of my homegrown runners
a real piggy job. Love the sound of your trifle.
