I made pasta Bolognese last night after I had been out with the dog and he pottered about the garden. Particularly good batch with wholemeal pasta, trying to get into this, it tastes fine to me! so its PB again tonight after spin and tomorrow after the horses, not much will be done as straight after work its get changed grab dog, walk him, take him to the p units and go spin

its very rare i buy lunch as i go home to let the dog out, my fellow workers can easily spend a fiver a day, its the bottle of juice that does it

    Good morning everyone,

When my two first went to uni they quickly cottoned on that a packed lunch was covered by their "digs" but buying lunch came out of their own pockets. Needless to say packed lunches were the order of the day. When I was working I mainly took lunch with me but did treat myself most Fridays to a salad roll from the shop across from the office.
Hot here again this morning and I didn't feel as though it cooled down much overnight - very hot and sticky. While that part of the garden is in the shade I want to do a bit more in "grot corner":).
I had the usual toast for breakfast, planning crackers, chicken, cucumber & fruit for lunch and either pasta or frittata for dinner tonight.

Phew it really is another scorcher!
I managed to work on "grot corner" which looking much better:) and get some dead heading done while there was still some shade in the garden. It's time for lunch then feet up for a bit before I go and lurk beside the compost bags for a bit.

Scorcher here as well, into L's on way, one reason I like W/rose, they have aircon, it's a delight this weather

PN, I feel for the workers opposite you, I was in similar in '76 summer, we, the Union, negotiated having a break in the cooler shaded part of the factory once an hour

Nothing much to fancy in L's, did splurge on bottle of their own squash, give it a bash

Lunch was 2 cold LO sausage rolls & brown sauce, with a banana to follow

Then currant picking, using the Kittie pick & prune method. I've got loads now with lots to still ripen. Money, as Kittie says about berry size, mine are Ok but the ones I saw properly trained at Wisley were the size of closely packed grapes, one bunch would easily fill a palm

Not weighed my currants, must be at least 250g, a full RM tray

I'm going to lightly stew with sugar, maybe chuck in my red goosegogs, cool & stir into HM yoghurt, for dinner, that is the plan, plus the single LO sausage roll. Too hot to even think about much in way of food

  • Okays - I see the point re my blackcurrants if they're going to turn out grape size.

Had a friend there picking some more this morning - and there's still loads left on that particular bush.

Not sure whether "summat cold" is a good idea in a stomach in this weather. I'm used to eating frozen bananas straight out of the freezer and to drinking cold plant milk right from the fridge. Had those frozen bananas at lunchtime and stomach started playing up - dosed it with bicarbonate of soda/lemon juice/water/touch of sugar and went to bed and "waited it out". Felt normal again - got up - had that glass of mylk and my stomach is playing up a bit again.

    Huh?????

Back to bed again then and "wait it out" again.

I had indigestion early today, I think it is the weather, we drink a lot because we need it but it dilutes the stomach acids and food just sits there and it ferments and that causes acid to get pushed up. Then down goes the next lot with that fermenting fruit at the bottom, still fizzing but not fast enough and it sends all of it into a whirl. Probably that is why I am not feeling hungry in this weather and why quite a few people are feeling under the weather

    Good evening everyone,
I find these days I can only eat fruit on a non-empty tummy or else I'm bloated and sore. The only exceptions seem to be melon and mango for some reason possibly they are low in acid. Kiwi fruit is the worst culprit for me.
A bit of breeze developed late afternoon so I made the most of it and had a trundle round the block - it was fab to do it without melting:).

A combination of PN's mention of burgers and waft from a bbq has put me in the notion for one. A quick delve in the freezer unearthed a pork, red pepper & manchengo one lurking since last summer. I don't fancy it in a bun so will sandwich it between two flat mushrooms. I have a pack of frozen breaded onion rings so a few of those may well find their way onto the plate;) :D

Family bbq is on for Saturday, brisket and peri peri chicken wings are the plan. I'll sous vide the brisket so it is tender but still pink so it only takes a few minutes on the coals. Before I had the sous vide I couldn't believe brisket served pink could be so tender but still have all the flavour of the cheaper cut. I do hope (though doubt) that there might be LOs:)

    Evening

Definitely a bit cooler tonight, the heat didn't hit me when I stepped out of the office :) and a nice cross breeze between the open window and back door meant I cooked dinner without melting :)

Busy at work today which meant the day went fast :D although I seem to have started lots of things and not been able to finish them thanks to interruptions and everybody needing it NOW  normal beginning of the month madness mixed in with the start of holiday season, at least it pays the bills :rotfl: unfortunately I was too caught up with work I didn't drink enough water today so trying to catch up before the headache which is currently threatening occurs, self inflicted I know :o

Lunch was a salad made up of fridge odds and sods and some pasta to pad it out, followed by the last of the fresh pineapple. Dinner was meatballs, tomato sauce and gnocchi topped with mozzarella and finished under the grill. Enough LO for lunch tomorrow :)

Darn - your comment re a "trundle around the block" reminded me Caron...it's one of the "daily to-dos" now, on any days where I don't intend to walk any further. Reason being I've finally gotten around to making out a self-improvement folder and it's down in there under the sub-heading of "Breathing exercises". Yep...I've read enough about things like Japanese Deep Breathing and other (more Western type) breathing exercises to rev up metabolism to lose surplus weight that I thought I'd try it. Courtesy of a friend coming round and not feeling too good - I didnt get round to it. Sections in the folder to date = get back to normal on figure, upper arms, hair, eyelashes and eyebrows, general strength and suppleness. Just a few things LOL. Shan't bother to list "remove few new skin blemishes" - as that's on the "next visit to Home City list - visit beautician". In this town I find it would be a lot easier than I'm used to get fancy "nail jobs" done or my hair dyed wierd and wonderful colours or red - but a lot harder/impossible to get "natural unnoticeable put things right" work done.

The idea of the "trundle round the block" is to have 5 minutes walking with a mouth full of water (tried that - can't manage it:rotfl:) or at least keeping one's mouth firmly shut - so that one HAS to nose breathe only for that length of time. Well - I've timed it out and a "trundle round the block" for me is 10 minutes.

Will monitor on a bit re fruit - it feels like it's pretty much coming out my ears at the moment a bit. It feels like my blackcurrant bushes/another berry bush I have are the "magic porridge pot". I keep giving loads away to anyone that will take some and there's still hordes left:rotfl:

Had another drink of plant milk just now from fridge and, thankfully, it didn't bring on a 3rd bout of upset stomach for the day.

Haven't bothered much today all round - courtesy of that couple of bouts of illness and the weather feeling too hot to cook. Though I did make a couple of loaves of bread - had no choice. The options were either make some more myself or have to walk into town to buy some - as I was totally out of bread.

Pop your feet in a basin of cold water and sluice your wrists under a cold tap - works wonders for a threatening headache due to dehydration :)

A "trundle" for me is a slow walk pushing my rollator, if I followed the water in mouth scenario I would actually suffocate as I have problems breathing through my nose due to a deviated septum:eek::eek: so I'll stick to my version which for me is probably just as challenging :rotfl:
