Weeny experiment time just now - as it's summer again here.
Tried a recipe I'd seen for Chocolate Cherry Nicecream.
Mixed reaction - basically I blitzed 2 stoned Medjool dates, 1.5 frozen bananas, 3 frozen cherries, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 0.5 cup plant milk and blitz together in a powerful blender. The mixed being - well it tasted nice (not surprisingly - given the ingredients) - but, according to the writer, was due to be icecream texture immediately.
It wasn't - so the 2nd portion of this has gone into the freezer and let's see how it is tomorrow then..0 -
Money, maybe size of bananas? Perhaps writer had huge ones and yours were normal? Just a thought. I sometimes wish recipes would use weight instead of two of this, 4 teaspoons of that. My pet hate is "Cups"
Change of planned lunch, I'd forgotten about the LO tinned salmon, used that in a salady sarnie. Which was really a repeat of last night's dinner
Quiche now defrosted, It can be eaten hot or cold, but I think I'll give it a spell in the mini oven before I have it with salad
More watering, out the front this time, the sunflowers were looking a bit droopy, plus found a hidden courgette.
I may eat them this week, the courgettes that is, not sunflowers, depends on how the runners do, I just fancy them, with runners & a grilled big thick free range pork chopEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I had wondered whether size of bananas might have made a difference - as these were quite small ones.
As you say - it would help if the weight was given instead.
Size is such a subjective thing imo. In a non-food context I've had to learn to translate anyone telling me a local facility/shop is "large" into "That means it's small - according to what I'm used to" and, in reverse I'd have to tell them something I'm used to is "huge".0 -
Woke up 5ish this morning.
With the heat, not really in the mood for food. Bought a new tub of ice-cream yesterday and a loaf of bread.
Since yesterday I've mostly eaten ice cream, toast, beans on toast and cheese sandwiches
Ice cream's another "mistake".... it's a tad hard.... won't get that one again.0 -
Good evening everyone,
Your nicecream sounds yummy MTSTM shame it wasn't as frozen as you hoped. Hopefully the rest of it won't have suffered from being popped in the freezer.
Unlike Farway I don't mind cooking with cups as long as it's a recipe where either the size doesn't matter hugely as long as you stick to the proportions or it's clear which country and hence cup size the recipe orginated in.
PN - I think the icecreams that use non-dairy fat tend to freeze a bit harder than ones that are dairy based. I don't eat a lot of icecream but always have a tub in the freezer in case of visitors or I fancy some. I like the Mackies brand but not sure if you get it in your area and it isn't too hard. It is quite expensive when full price but frequently on SO and even full price less expensive and nicer than some of the "high end" brands. I tend to prefer vanilla but the honeycomb one is amazing:) (there crisps are really good too:cool:).
It's been a loverly day here, hot but not as humid & scorching as it was a couple of weeks ago so much more pleasant to be out in than it was then. It's to get much warmer over the next couple of days though. It got a bit overcast late afternoon so the temperature dropped a tad which was welcome as hopefully it won't be too warm overnight.
I got the back garden weedkillered and made a start on revamping the area of my garden I call "grot corner" which is needing some tlc. I've taken it as far as I can until the weedkiller does it's stuff. I'll get the front garden doused tomorrow if it isn't too warm though it is shadier as north facing.
Lunch was a really use up, mismash, of salad odds & ends, some chicken "pickings" gleaned from the bones and mixed through the end of a tub of coleslaw, avocado and a small LO piece of rather good rye sourdough that I tore into chunks and popped in the bottom of the bowl to soak up the salad juices. A splash of balsmin dressing over the salad and topped with the chicken/coleslaw mix made for a really tasty bowlful:). Dinner tonight is chicken again as I'll heat up some chicken & chorizo and have it with spuds & asparagus. I think I'll take a small piece of gammon out of the freezer to SC tomorrow, it is about 500g including fat & rind (I lopped off of a bigger joint I had at Easter) so should give me enough meat to take a thicker slice from it to have with pneapple tomorrow night with the rest thinly sliced for sandwiches. I reckon it will only take 3-4 hours in the SC so if I pop it on first thing it will be cooked before the kitchen gets too warm. I'm going to cook extra spuds tonight so I can use rest up either quickly nuked or in salad. If it's going to be sweltering I don't want to be cooking that much but equally I have food stuff I want to use up before it gets past it's best.:)0 -
Evening
Cooking using cups is ok until they tell you to use a stick of butter, which I know isn't a pack but can never remember how many grams.
I was thinking of making ice cream yesterday, only because I have a faint memory as a child of eating one made with condensed milk, it was one of those memories where I could taste it but I probably haven't had it in about 40 years or moremaking it would have meant going to T Express and I was cba in the heat, and tbh if I had I would have brought a ice lolly instead
Lunch was loosely based on tabbouleh, I cooked buck wheat and added lots of chopped raw veg and salad bits into it with feta and olives and finished off with lots of chopped parsley and mint. I didn't eat all my lunch so i finished it for dinner followed by fresh fruit and yogurt. Some left for tomorrow lunch as well.Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -

Thanks for the links Need2bethrifty and Bouicca21 my lunch time walk may have to take me pass a supermarket :rotfl:
Caronc I eat a lot of tabbouleh type dishes during the summer, easy to make and good to take to work for lunch, I don't like fresh coriander but I've always have loads of other fresh herbs to add lots of favour
I know we shouldn't moan about the hot weather but im watching bbc breakfast announcing a health warning which usually means my asthma will flareat least the office has air conditioning
