I don't like egg tasting things, though. I don't miss eggs at all.2 -
As I've a loaf to get through and a cucumber started... breakfast today was a cucumber sandwich.Lunch was a salmon paste/cucumber sandwich.I've now got half a pot of paste leftover... I have two choices:1/ Get round to eating another paste/cucumber sandwich in the next 1-2 hours.2/ Go downstairs and pop the leftover paste in the fridge where it'll keep longer and make another sandwich either later today or tomorrow to use it up.I think the first option sounds easier/less hassle and faff.
I'll also declare that the 24 Bounty bars (48 pieces) lasted one week.... all gone. Bought 21st, finished 28th. Worra pig3 -
Good afternoon everyone,
I've been hanging around most of the day waiting for my CH to be serviced. All done and dusted now so fingers crossed although old it will do for another winter. The chap could see no reason why it won't but it has hit the point where if something does go it could be hard to source the parts.
First ripe tomato has been scoffed and it was lovely, roll on some more being ripe. Lunch was a ham roll with said tomato and fresh peas. Tonight it's tandoori spiced chicken, I popped the chook pieces in the marinade yesterday evening, with roasted aubergine, onion and home grown courgettes.3 -
Good afternoon peeps. Can't remember if I've visited this thread before. I just needed a little rant. I'm shielding and healthwise, I can't really manage an actual shop - so I rely on deliveries. Just seen that Mr T is introducing a new 'flat' delivery charge of £4.50 - which is too much for little old me. I was paying £2 before. Shame as I liked their service. Fortunately I can get a Sainsbobs delivery for £1 and @sda for free. I miss being able to pick food in person though. Sometimes the produce is not as fresh as I would have liked. These things matter when it is just you and you need things to last till the next shop3

Some smug bar steward will always tell you "make the order up with other things that keep".... so you might add loo roll, bleach, coffee, baked beans... but once you've done that once you've now got a year's supply to trip over in the hallway and it doesn't help in 2-4 weeks' time when you want something else
I'm lucky in that I can go where I want, when I want and get what I want..... except I never do as I stick to the few things I know and the easiest shop to get into.
Fresh stuff is a pain in the butt.... I'm currently eating lots of cucumber sandwiches because I bought a loaf and I bought a cucumber. Both have a limited lifespan... and it doesn't end there as I also have a pack of crumpets and a pack of flatbreads with dates on to get through when the loaf's done with.4 -
Just done an unexpected 'food shop', although not sure it counts as a food shop. I got it into my head that it's a nice day and I should go for one of those things fit people call "a walk". I could go to the beach, but I decided to go to 1celand to see if they had their 8/£1 choc ices, although I didn't expect them to.
So off I went.... I was lucky, they had two boxes of them, so I grabbed one - trouble was, during the walk there I decided I should pick up a "meal for one" and somewhere along the way ambling round the shop I decided that I'd get their chilli/rice. Not entirely sure why. No need for it, for that one; could probably get one cheaper elsewhere... but got it anyway. Managed to squeeze the box of choc ices and the chilli into my corner of the freezer shelf.
Already scoffed two choc ices. Re the chilli, I'm thinking I should make it wait until tomorrow ... and I made a paste/cucumber sandwich instead, to use up the paste which I'd opened and still had sitting in my room (coldest spot, but it's still not refrigerated). Also scoffed a packet of those out of date crisps I'm ploughing through ... and two handfuls of honey/nut cornflakes.
EDIT: Oooh .. forgot. Also grabbed in 1celand a 4-pack of sultana scones, they're bigguns and cost 50p. Date for those is 30 Aug though, so I've hidden/buried them under other food.4 -

Yes online can be expensive for deliveries but for me cheaper than a taxi to the SM (£3.50 each way), I get a delivery saver pass for Tesco which works out well for me so if/when Sainsbury/Asda cull their cheaper slots might be worth looking into. Iceland also offer free delivery if you spend over £35. Locally I find Tesco the best option for freshness/shelf life/cost but it does seem to depend on your local stores what is best for that in each area. Asda in mine is awful for fresh stuff.5 -
Evening all
Plumber visit today and the seized stopcock is now replaced with a surestop and I have a outside tap, which fills up the watering cans so much quicker than the kitchen tap and made tonight's watering so much quicker. The invoice wasn't so nice
I picked my first cherry tomato (which are outside) tonight, it didn't make it indoors4 more courgettes
and a large handful of runners
I could do with the extra freezer space now
i recently found custard powder in the cupboard, no idea when I brought it and have been thinking melting moments since I found itso tonight I succumbed and made half a batch, I didn't sandwich them together with anything, half the batch were thumb print ones with raspberry jam
I thinking I may try and find room to freeze some (probably not)
Lunch was a chicken salad and dinner the last of the cold roast lamb with ratatouille with added feta cheese and the last of he French beansLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin3 -
Morning all & welcome PineappleI only started online shopping since lock down & self isolating, like many CFO I find it PIA at times with min spend & dubious fresh items, plus cheaper choice not always on line. However I've used a mix of click & collect & delivery and have mostly been satisfied with it allThe C & C free min order is £25 at @sda which is sort of OK range fortnightly for me, but I sometimes splurge if I need want something unusual, like decent dry cured bacon or cheese. I'm slowly finding by elimination who has best options when unable to pick for yourselfI'm not loyal but I was always a shopping tart mooching from shop to shop, so nothing's changed on lineI see Amazon are entering the on line shopping country wide, I used to be a Prime member so I'll consider rejoining as an another option in my pocketPN, would a small cool box be an option for you?I know it's more clutter but just a thought, pop an ice bag pre-frozen in your part of the freezer in & should be good for 12 hours I'd have thought?Sunny day here, jobs for the day include clearing the old pea vines away & put out the garden wheelie bin now the council have resumed collecting themI made a loaf this morning, actually I tipped a pre packed bread mix in the Panny, added water & pressed "Start". It's baked now & awaits my attention at lunch timeLunch, the fresh loaf, sarnie I think with cheese & tomDinner, I'm going to attack the W8rose bangers, the pack delivered at the weekend, I need to split & freeze anywayIdeally mash & beans would accompany them but with a fresh loaf plus hot day a sausage sarnie may be too temptingMy yellow cherry toms have now ripened in the conservatory but not yet sampledEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4
