Maybe there's another soft Southerner from a city on this thread here?:rotfl::rotfl:

I can take a joke against myself on that one - ie you can tell I'm from a southern city because the thought literally doesnt occur to me that weather might "stop play" as regards my getting to/from anything I've decided to go to.

Nor does it occur to me to wear a hat when I go out....I've got a vague idea I've got some stashed away somewhere - and really must get round to looking them out sometime:rotfl:

I often forget to wear gloves. It doesnt tend to occur to me to do up any coat or jacket I'm wearing - unless the weather I'm out in gives me a sharp reminder to do so. Yep.....I did check out photo of female "officials" outdoors promoting my city recently and....that's where the idea comes from of simply not even thinking of doing up any coat I'm wearing (they weren't either). Yep...we'll wear scarves - but that's really for a "style thing" - but coats done up? = not very often LOL.

I'd be willing to bet a lot round here think I'm so hardy for going out underdressed in their opinion:rotfl:. No - I'm not at all :rotfl: - I've just not trained myself into thinking I ought to here and keep forgetting. Followed by finding myself walking along with cold hands and windblown hair...

So - I'd arranged to go out tonight - and am duly going to:)

Us non-softies know the best way to fight of the chills is lots of layers and cover your head/hands. That and make sure the [STRIKE]booze[/STRIKE] food cupboard is well stocked so no need to stray away from the warmth. My days of "boldly going" regardless of the weather are behind me, I move so slowly I'm likely to seize (or freeze) up:rotfl::rotfl:

Well here we go with the snow again. I dug out the car today but it is already looking like a car igloo - a 'cargloo'! Plus it is colder - it was turning crunchy underfoot at 4pm. Those of us of a tin foil persuasion should check out the Piers Corbyn website. He contends that we are at the start of a cyclical mini ice age.

It's blue bag day tomorrow. Here we don't have wheelie bins, we have blue bags. You put out your blue bags on Thursday morning and they chuck two replacement bags into your garden. Just wondering if they will be here at all. At best they will go down the main street picking up bags at the road side while lobbing new bags into roadside gardens. But they won't be doing side roads.
Was going to have the turkey mince rissoles tonight and give the dog a frozen dog meal but having defrosted it I find it is a 'human' beef stew so it's stew tonight and rissoles tomorrow. The dog has had kibble. Sorry Ben. I really ought to start labelling containers instead of it being a voyage of discovery!
Thoughts go out to anyone needing medical care - human or animal. A neighbour in her 70s is deliberating having a go on the grandkids' sledge. I was tempted too. Probably not a good idea as we are a bit more fragile in later life. I expect A&E has enough broken bones to contend with as it is!

I gave the live music club a swerve last night, but only because I was worried about negotiating any icy stretches. However, I used to go out on the trike when it was sub-zero. I don't do that now, if it can be avoided, and with the internet, it usually can.

The snow is too deep to cycle in now, anyway. When it isn't, the trike loyally keeps me safe, and laughs at sheet ice. He has mountain bike tyres, slightly below full pressure. That helps.

I had ham broth, definitely broth weather. Tomorrow will be something similar. Looking for inspiration for CBA meals on the lines of home-made broth, I discovered some Knorr chicken noodle soup, and we always have pasta in, so that's a no-brainer.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Oh well - I'd got myself all togged-up and ready to go out - and the evening's activity got cancelled (new date to be confirmed)......

So it looks like an evening in after all....and there's only one tv programme I fancy tonight (ie I'm watching "The £1 houses" mini series at the moment).

Us Southerners don't just make jokes against ourselves on this. That's the second time today I've seen the following caption up on the "Pembrokeshire - I love it!" Facebook page:

    "WEATHER WARNING
Southerners are urged not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Northerners - You will need your big coat."

    ******

Shucks....not a fan of being out in the cold - even if I recall my one (part of a group) trip to Greenham Common back in the 1980s was rather cold. That's probably the first demonstration they had there that turned into a dance to keep warm - as I decided it was time for "Group hug and kick your heels up everyone - we're dancing to keep warm". Everyone nearby joined in LOL.

I was out, so dashed into L1dl and 4ldi on the way home .... for sausage rolls and bread rolls :)

L1dl - shop was almost empty! (Plenty of sausage rolls as they're not a high priority for people wishing to clear shelves of food) .... I asked the man at the till if everything had been bought, or if the lorry hadn't turned up.... he laughed and said "haven't you heard, apparently Armageddon's coming" ... so people went and panic bought. It's the South .... I know there'll be snow, but you'll live!

Off down to 4ldi, it wasn't bare there, bit further away from the council estate up there it is :) Bought bread rolls, stocked up on beans (4 tins) and grabbed sweeties. Also, bizarrely, I was sucked into buying a pack of 4ldi's "new" small tortilla wrap thingies. 8 in a pack 49p. So I'll see if they're chewy at some point.

So long as I maintain power, I've enough food for 2-3 weeks :)

pineapple - maybe the snow will weight the bin bags down;)
mcculloch - it's the icy stretches that do for me too , crunchy snow is fine (ish):)
MTSTM - shame your event was cancelled. If it's any consolation similiar ribbing exists between East (hardy- or so they think) and West (softy -apparently;)) Scots:rotfl::rotfl:
PN - 2/3 weeks, assuming power, I could probably do 2/3 months:o though there would be some intersting combinations served up :rotfl:

So could I ... I've so much food that I've bought that's simply not eaten.

I've loads of bags of pasta, but I eat pasta in the summer mostly.
I've still got a FB Pie I bought about 2 years ago....

2-3 weeks was before I have to see what I've actually got in the house :)

    Temperature:

I forgot to mention, my car said it was -3° out there when I was driving home.

A random weather site I use says the lowest today's been -6° and it'll be -6° tonight.

Yep - I understand the pasta mountain, I have a huge tub of penne that I only really like in pasta salad and I'm sure it's regenerating itself:rotfl::rotfl:

I've only just realised, I over-ate today as I forgot what I'd already eaten!

Brekkie: Big bread roll toasted, beans, eggs
    Lunch: Turkey chilli/basmati
    Tea: 2 hot sausage rolls

Nibbles: Packet of crisps, some favourite choccies and some midget gems :)

Let's call it: Laying down some fat ready for the cold weather in the next 1-2 days :)
