Well the snow finally got here. The village has turned into a scene from The Day after Tomorrow. My very large border collie can't do a poo without his nether regions being totally submerged. As for next door's cocker spaniel, it is going to need doggie snow shoes just to see where it is going... Nothing moving here but the odd bit of large farm traffic. Oh and a stupid motorist chancing his arm and getting stuck.
Something about the weather must be bringing up deep primal instincts because after battling the snowdrifts, I felt the need for a hearty breakfast. And I don't even 'do' breakfast. So I broke into the baked bean stash. It's going to be a windy day - and I don't mean the weather. Dinner will be dog food (with more beans). Yes I said dog food! I'm defrosting a pack of turkey thigh mince which I got for making Ben's dinners. It should make some tasty rissoles - if I don't think too closely about it. :rotfl:

I think this might just be the next soup I make Leek and potato soup with ginger

MTSTM - you might want to have look through the website I got the above from http://www.mamtaskitchen.com/index.php, it's got lots of recipes I think would appeal to you :D (and lots that wouldn't;))

this was a site by a lady, or was it her daughter? or both?, that used to post on the old beeb food boards, I've found the recipes work really well.
I love my pressure cooker, it probably gets used more than my slowy, i'm too impatient when I start to smell lovely cooking smells.
saying that my slow cooked steak and kidney and beer stew was nice, tho my own recipe was nicer than the one in the cookbook I used. have saved some for tonight, a bit more to make into s&k steamed pud and luckily there's enough for the freezer for busy days.

    Good morning everyone,
:rotfl::rotfl:re the "dog food" for dinner

Seems as though most of us CFOers have snow, I hope everyone is ok.

After yesterday evening's heavy fall there's not been much more snow overnight, though it's snowing lightly again now. It's bitterly cold and the house feels very gloomy as my glass kitchen/conservatory roof and velux are covered with a thick layer shutting out the light:(. I've not ventured out yet but I can see that my garden has had various feline & feathered visitors as there are lots of tracks in the snow. Once I'm organised I'll clear the feeders and put additional bird food out. Apart from that I don't think I'll be venturing far:).

Foodwise lunch will be piri piri chicken and soup from the freezer. I've salmon trimmings defrosting to have with pasta tonight.

    Thankfully no snow here today:).

Cold/cold/cold though - hoping the venue for tonight's social life event is going to be warm enough (though I'm getting lifts to and from it). Ain't planning to go as far as my garden during the day though - unless someone I know decides to turn themselves up here today to pick up something they want from my garden.

Must get my act together and make some bread/decide what I'm having for lunch and dinner today. I suspect one of my regular stand-bys might be on the menu - ie roasted vegetables and I could make some hummus to go with it/got tomatoes/got olives/got quite a bit left of "Nutty Parm" (ie the sorta parmesan equivalent I made from current cookbook). So that could do me for one of those meals...

I must make up a shortlist of cba meals - say 14 days worth. I've learnt by now when I go into cba mode - and one of those times is when I've had to put in more effort than I feel is reasonable/normal for me into getting "something done by someone else". So that was both Monday and Tuesday I had that - hence cba mode today (ie after twice normal effort level to get something achieved involving others in this "manana" area of the country). "Manana" and my personal "If I've decided on something - I'd like it yesterday if possible" ain't that compatible....still can't get my head around how something that is a fixed/definite arrangement on a fixed/definite day can do anything other than happen on that day (not "You are lucky if it happens that week.....")...

old beeb food board poster here too:D, the recipes are mainly Mamta's and her families. Her daughter set up the website and the recipes are usually really good and reliable.
  • I had some leftover Indian takeaway rice for breakfast. It was horrible so I'm having a banana and cherry yoghurt instead.

I was another CFOer having a hot & hearty breakfast, I had jumbo oats porridge, with Greek yoghurt & some choc spread stirred in, plus pot of tea

I'm with Wed200, my breakfast porridge had a whiff of chicken tikka about it while nuking. Smell LO from last night's nuking:( Tasted OK though

Just a smidgen of snow, but ground is rock hard. I only went out to drag the emptied wheelie bin back into it's quarters, and empty the tea leaves onto frozen garden. CH timer over ridden again

Following on the hot food theme, lunch was freezer dive for a Greggs, frozen from Iceland, cheese & onion thingy. Not something i would normally buy, but they were on offer, so 50p for that. OK but I'll not buy any more

Dinner is real comfort stuff, ready meal liver, bacon & mash. I'll have steamed frozen mixed veg with that, and use up the LO green beans from the other day

    Good afternoon everyone,
No hot & hearty breafast for me but I did have a largeish mug of rib sticking pea & ham soup with my chicken salad at lunch time. It fair hit the spot- shame it was the last portion of it in the freezer.
A large chunk of Scotland has basically shut down due to the deterioating weather. Thankfully I'm away from the worst of it but it is -5C here and snowing again. Schools in the area are closed tomorrow which probably quite sensible:).
My younger son is due to travel from near Liverpool to Newcastle tonight following a training course, I'm hoping they were allowed to leave early!
I hope all CFOers are safe and warm.:)

I've spent the morning making leek and potato soup , I tried to double the quantity, I do it by eye so it's ended up a bit runny than normal. I must say the last lot was so thick, my dgson was asking where the liquid was !!!
I also needed to chop some of the frozen cat food up into portions, so as it arrived yesterday whilst I was work, they had put it in my blue bin!!!! Bear in mind this is over 20kg of frozen food in a huge box, I had the devil of a job getting it out of the bin, and rolling it into the garage!! I left some out to defrost, and it was still solid this morning, so very difficult to chop up!

I had a bit of the soup for lunch with bread and butter and a pack of crisp.
As I've played tetris with the freezer contents, I've taken out a cauli cheese crispbake thing, and tempura chicken gougons. I will have garlic mayo and maybe sweet chilli dipping sauce with them.

We've had a couple of snow flurries but nothing on the ground today, Baltic though the sun's out now.
Yoga tonight, then the pub quiz. Will need to force myself out I think!!
