Been gnashing teeth last couple of days, not sure why, but it kind of snowballs, so once i'm aware my jaw aches I just have to clench again. Nearly abandoned the idea of the YS lamb curry yesterday, but glad I didn't because it was good, one of the best. And I have LOs for tomorrow. Tonight I had ramen, nice & soft with chorizo cut into tiny pieces. The cat, who is also on drugs, had Mrs Un brave Waitrose on a weekend for deli counter turkey which is the only thing she (the cat) will eat at the moment
Do like the sound of ramen with chorizo - have filed as have some in the freezer & fridge and also frozen ramen stock. Hope the clenching settles <hug>

Snap :D although I brought two  one at 60% off On line and the other 75% off when I popped into the shop today and as my sister said at that price  It's very much a summer one but will keep :)
Summer one here too (but works well with a cardi so versatile) at 60% off it feels very :money::whistle:, no shops nearby so online only for me but 75% off is certainly not to be ignored. ;)

Normally I'd have put some ham in, but that's saved for the cat in case she decides she hates turkey too - she's on post op meds and lost her appetite so we need to keep her topped up. I think Pound for Pound, roast turkey by the slice from the Waitrose deli counter is actually cheaper than the appetite enhancers from the vet
. Gnashing serms to have stopped hopefully, could be steroid related as I've only reduced from 2mg to 1.5mg a few days ago. As for the chorizo, I only figured out a week or so ago that it's kind of interchangeable with bacon (or lardons) in many ways. I've some kind of frittata planned for breakfast next week assuming the chompers are behaving

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Air fryer sorted & ordered, arrives Wednesday, or more likely Tuesday morning when I'm out. Good job you mentioned the basket Caron, now I look closely some do only have a trivet thingy & not removable basket

I'll be researching those and going out to look at them once I get a house...

    What were your buying criteria?

For me, size/shape (and cost of course!) are key as I want something that's not faffy to use/store/clean and that isn't too big.

Mine were much the same. Shapes seem to be upright kettle shapes with a drawer at the base for food cooking.

In my case I also wanted dishwasher friendly and "right" CFO size, however seems the physical sizes are very similar, excluding the huge family ones.

I settled on a 3.2L one, I'm only cooking chips, bangers, fish fingers and the like in it. They do say OK for chicken, fish etc but I use my gas oven for them anyway
The smaller, and cheaper, 2L sizes I read involve poking the food a lot and not giving enough air space around food to give even cooking

Last night's salad was not enough, had a bowl of muesli later on:o

    Porridge + chopped apple breakfast
I took a local handmade posh pork pie out to defrost last night, that's lunch, with some piccalilli I think
I'm defrosting a YS @18p Moo & Blue pie for dinner, YS last April, another of my forgotten freezer finds

Quite mild outside, but Brendan due late afternoon, ideal for YS pie & LO instant mash
I'll knock up the apple crumble later this morning ready for some pud, seems like packet week here, I also found a packet of instant custard to go with it:j

I saw an early one, they were flying saucer shaped, but I've noticed many now seem to have a drawer. It's a drawer I'd want.

I did think that about 3.5L or so would end up being the right size.

I'd want it for sausages, burgers, fish fingers, fish in batter portions, chips .... and quiche, pies too. Really anything with batter/breaded - and possibly pies/pastry items. Maybe even omelettes.... worth a try I thought. Oh - and roast spuds, roast parsnips.

I'm many months away, possibly a year away, from getting my head into the research/buying zone :)

I'll join some facebook groups to see who cooks what when time gets closer, as part of the final "do I really need it" decision.... and, as I've not even moved yet, that "where would it go?" question.
  • hello all, new comer to the thread! I now find myself back to cooking for one as my 7 year relationship has just ended. I've been very low and not bothered with cooking / eating in general but I need to sort myself out and get back into actually living.

I am going to aim to batch cook so that I don't actually need to cook every day. So tonight will be meatballs and sauce, maybe some pasta to go with it, or I'll fashion a garlic bread type roll thing, as I have some rolls kicking around the freezer.

I'm also going to attempt to just eat what I have available at home, get the freezers and cupboards cleared out.
  • I have to fast for a blood test today and I always seem to be more hungry on those days!

I quite liked it.:) It's about a fiver without a drink which I thought was expensive although I haven't eaten there in years so I'm not sure if that is pricey or not.

My husband didn't think it was worth the money so he probably won't get it again.

I want to try the vegan meatball Subway next!:T

Welcome to CFO Finchy, we're a friendly bunch on here and if you've followed any posts will know we have varied approaches to CFO life. I tend to do a mix of batch cooking and one portion stuff and like to have well stocked freezers and cupboards, though in January and February try to not buy any food apart from fresh & household essentials.

"Brendan" is fairly building up here, first thing there was the most amazing purple & red sky to the West heralding it's arrival. Before it got too gusty I did a quick bin run and checked everything was as secure as it can be.

In a fit of madness I have hauled out all my kitchen drawers, there is a spectacular amount of[STRIKE] junk[/STRIKE] treasured items now on the worktops needing rehomed much of which had no business being a kitchen drawer and should be in the garage.......:o I also wonder how many sets of allen keys one actually needs, certainly not as many as I have:rotfl::rotfl:. Sorting it out will keep me out of mischief today anyway and it's job I can do perched on my high stool so not too taxing.

My new laptop is due to arrive at some this afternoon, according to the tracking I'm delivery 48 out of 116 and the driver is only on number 2 so far! Depending on when it arrives I might wait until tomorrow to set it up.

Lunch today is the last Scotch egg with salad and possibly a cupasoup for something warming. I've chicken thighs defrosting tonight that I'm cooking with the LO stock from Saturday's belly pork, onions, peppers and pineapple to make a sort of sweet & sour dish which I'll have with some rice from the freezer.

You'll see that occurring here quite a lot (especially me), without low mood being involved. It often becomes "just the way it is/why bother/it's just me/oh I can't decide/CBA now it's late" :) It's not helped by perpetually eating up things that need using up, rather than feeling free to "choose" what you eat (I run a strict zero food waste household: you bought it, you have to eat it ALL).

I've worked out my "quick wins" to keep in the house. e.g. today lunch will probably be a flat bread, a cheap (10p) fishcake (Mr T) done in the microwave and a squirt of ketchup. Lunch is served :)

My CFO situation is: Just me, only ever me, nobody else, never, no visitors, just me. Just my (cheap) food.... CBA, hate cooking. Also, currently: just moved in as a lodger/hate her kitchen disarray and won't be using it.
