What I need help with is cats, but what I'm supposed to do is summarise money to keep me focused.
Money saving
I'm doing ok - could do better. Shopping this week £60, with £66 wine. We needed to top up on wine, but we are really not drinking as much and trying to be healthy. 1 child is packed lucnh, the other school dinners - this adds up.
I am working on using up what we have, whilst also being mindful to store a little incase we have to isolate.
I bought a cat bed in the end,£9. She wasn't using the improvised bed, She doesnt use the cat bed either but at least I tried.
TO DO:
Keep costs in mind and I can still balance the budget -£4 left of weekly budget this week!
Plan a cheap weekend
keep costs/benefits in mind when sorting out cat care
Money Making
I have 1 more online client - a repeat customer
I applied for a childcare job, don't know if the hours suit but applied anyway.Save £20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k4 -

They said we could have a kitten but then didn't send the photos or paperwork and becasue it's volunteers I didn't want to chase too much. Then I was just told here is the paperwork if you pay she will be deliverd tomorrow - so I did

I have quite a few cat questions:
Should I get accident and illness insurance? About £6 per month.
Should I worm and flea myself quite happy to do the spot on treatment? Vets offers this, plus 6 monthly check ups and claw thing for £14 a month. Is this a good deal?
Where do I find out how much to feed her ? she eats more than double what they said originally but I'm just feeding her constantly. Maybe I should feed less?
Personally I would go with vets & have check up & claws
Cats when they are wee need to be fed little & often. Wet & dry are both good.
I have fed both for years.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I’d agree about the insurance - it’s peace of mind and you never know if she’s going to develop a life long condition - but do check how the cover works, pet insurance has a variety of options.
I’d do flea and worming treatment myself - Spot on stuff can be bought much cheaper online but we do buy the worming stuff from the vets as it’s only available through them and I’ve never worked out the differences with stuff available online. (Have never cut our cats’ claws, they seem to be expert at doing it themselves - often find a chewed nail on the floor!). Plans from the vets often include a discount on treatments, but this may overlap if you get insurance so you might end up paying for something you can’t benefit from.
We managed to get a scratching post and cat bed from Freegle and the bed is still going strong 7 years later - it even gets used sometimes! Definitely don’t need to spend lots of money on toys - a scrunched up bit of paper makes a great toy.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Hello all,
Thanks for the cat advice! I have decided to do the worm and flea myself to save a bit of cash. A relative bought me cat toys which she loves. I've ordered food online with vouchers. We are getting on fine
My Wednesday Money update. I'm finding it easy to do this as I get the email from Martin and it gives me a few ideas on ways to save.
Making Money
I had a phone interview for an extra childcare/babysitting job. It would be regular money for me, but the mum seems a bit 'high maintenance'. One of the questions was 'how would I deal with conflict?'. I will see what happens with that one!
I need to make regular time to work on OHs business, it's still going strong surprisingly!
My own work is manic as I have loads of really difficult cases.
Saving Money
I need to make more time in my life! I have thought of a couple of ways of trying to make my work fit into my working hours, giving me time (and headspace) to work on my priorities which include saving money and making money.
I will look at supplementing hen food with scraps
I will dig over the garden as my veg finishes and improve the soil with the chicken manure.
Groceries within budget this week, incl a little bit of stockpiling incase we have to isolate.Save £20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k5 -

I almost went for a face to face interview for the childcare job - mum got ill so it's on hold.
I will do a trawl of jobs
I will reapply for another online tutoring job.
I haven't yet got into the swing of regular work on OHs business again. Just lots of it when I feel guilty!
My own work is back under control
