  • Guys, just a word of warning regarding these types of players.I recently, well I say recently, In APRIL! I bought a Tevion 2gb mp3 player with video capabilities from my local Aldi store. However just a couple of weeks ago I plugged it in by USB to transfer for some songs and moments later it caught fire. Its short circuite itself some how. The frightening thing is that these players can be charged the same way. If I had plugged it in to charge while I went to work that morning then I'd have came back to a burned down house. They are good wee players, easy to use and at a nice price. But be careful with them.
  • Thats terrible scotsman, so glad you was at home at the time, certainly puts things in perspective.
  • Hi there
Just got one in the post today & the manual would make great material for a comedy sketch on 'Engrish'
Any one know of an online manual in English? I just want to play MP3 files & organise/access them in folders ...
    Thx

  • I just received mine today and, for the money, it's way more than i expected. I wanted it mainly for the mp3 and radio function and, to be fair, i'm well happy with it. The worst thing about it is the poor navigation but it's fine once you work it out. What can you expect for less than £20?! (I bought the second one, btw)

Just got my " M-173 2GB MP4 Player " today too and it seems pretty fun.

Regarding the video - the example file that comes with it is .amv format. It won't read .wmv files as video files - it sees them as audio files and will play the sound but not the video.
    Wikipedia on amv: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMV_video_format

SUPER (build 19) doesn't want to know about amv, but I have just converted a few .avi video files (XviD & DivX codecs, mp3 audio) into corresponding .amv s without too much pain using this http://www.soft29.com/freeware/amv_video_converter.htm

It's free and seems clean. It converts at about 3x on my P4 1.7GHz setup.

4:3 aspect ratio gets squished to 1:1 but otherwise plays back fine.

Please share any user tips y'all come across :)

I think that it will only support a max of 9 folders (userguide page 10), but I haven't tested that. If you want to use folders, set them all up on your PC and drag the lot over onto the player.

    Then:

To set it up to play everything in one folder, then everything in the next folder, then everything in the next folder etc:
-get to the view where you can see the graphic equaliser picture
-make sure that there is a song playing (if there isn't, press OK once to start the default song playing)
-press the Mode button (this is the Up arrows on the control pad)
    - you will see a menu, the first option of which is Repeat
-click on the Up arrows to select the Repeat submenu
-this will take you to the next level menu
-use the Left & Right arrow keys to navigate to the "Repeat All" option
-click on the Up arrows to choose this "Repeat All" option
    -that's it !

To set it up to continually repeat everything in one folder:
-get to the view where you can see the graphic equaliser picture
-make sure that there is a song playing (if there isn't, press OK once to start the default song playing)
-press the Mode button (this is the Up arrows on the control pad)
    - you will see a menu, the first option of which is Repeat
-click on the Up arrows to select the Repeat submenu
-this will take you to the next level menu
-use the Left & Right arrow keys to navigate to the "Repeat Folder" option
-click on the Up arrows to choose this "Repeat Folder" option
    -that's it !

There are a few more options from the Repeat submenu listed on page 11 of the userguide that comes with it.

You can play songs within a folder in a random order by repeating the same steps as above and selecting "Random" in place of "Repeat All" or "Repeat Folder". I haven't found a way of randomising playback across folders.

Got bored of the songs in this folder and want to manually switch to another folder?
-get to the view where you can see the graphic equaliser picture
-make sure that there is no song playing (if there is, press OK once to stop it)
-press the Mode button (this is the up arrows on the control pad)
    - you will see a short menu in which the first option is "local folder"
-click on the Up Arrows to select "local folder"
-this will show a list starting with "\" (backslash) and followed by the songtitles in the current folder
-make sure that the first item (the backslash) is highlighted and press the Up Arrows button
-this will show you the root directory which lists all the folders that exist (and any songs that aren't inside a folder)
-use the left and right arrow keys to navigate to the folder you want to listen to and click the Up Arrow once
-you will see a list starting with a backslash and followed by all the songs in the latest folder
    - switch the machine off (yes, that's right) by pressing and holding the OK button down
-switch the machine back on by pressing and holding the OK button down
-you will now be back at the graphic equaliser picture but playing songs from the new folder
    -that's it !

The single most important thing when interpreting the user guide is that the oft referred to "Mode" button is the Up Arrow button on this device.

I can't find a good english userguide for this, but I do have a mpman MP-FUB35 which seems to use the same operating system and a similar set of buttons. There is a reasonable userguide for that here, but keep in mind that some of the buttons/functions won't match up exactly. http://www.mpmaneurope.com/download.aspx?file_id=407

Congrats on your first post

    Ian

You're funny. Thanks for making me laugh on a tired, wet, November day.:rotfl:
  • I bought this one from Ebuyer, its a 1gb green coloured one. Yes totally agree with the comments on the instructions, impossible. So thanks to KingL, am looking forward to having a read of them to try and make sense of the functions. Actually I bought it for my 11 year old son and I'm sure he won't have a problem

But my problem is it has come in a lovely PINK box and when it starts up there are a load of flowers on the screen.

Has anyone bought the blue one, is that boyish. I don't mind the pink box as that will be gone before 6am on Christmas day, but I was wondering about the flowery intro, is there anything I can do to change it?

I can buy another one for my daughter as its really funky and brilliant value but if I get the blue one and its not boyish well I then have two girly ones.

If anyone can help on this I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks
  • I biught the black one via ebuyer as originally 'advertised' by MArtin.
The manual as expected is useless and constantly refers to the website but none quoted in it.
Anyone got one and can provide a mini idiots guide to it?
